  Good deal… but are these big hotels safe these days if they host travellers returning from overseas? Do they have to publicly declare they are hosting quarantined travellers?

    yes. Well in most countries that I've heard of, all the quarantine hotels are listed, AND there's no way you're getting into a restricted area as a non-quarantined traveller (in theory). In practise some people have broken in, but then you probably won't get your double points…

        note sure, presumably you can ask the govt, but if you google hotel name and quarantine, there's usually articles. Eg Travelodge Sydney.

  Just to expand on your 4th point, the (double) nights earned this year will rollover into your 2021 count. This means that during 8 September 2020 through to 31 December 2020, a a base HH member can get to HH Gold / HH Diamond with 20 nights / 30 nights respectively. They will keep that status through to March 2023 (ie earned status in 2021, 2022 is requalifying year plus three months in 2023 as a grace period). This might be worthwhile if one is staying frequently moving forward or staying in some higher end properties (and if travel restrictions are lifted).

  We do have Diamond status extended through to 2022 as a courtesy and the points is an added bonus but between my wife and I, we are sitting on close to a million HH points (well have do have a placeholder 10 night booking at The Waldorf Astoria Maldives in 2021) but doubt international travel will be allowed for Australians then - even though my facebook page many living in Europe or USA are currently jetsetting around the world.

    It's depressing how people from the countries worst affected are free to jetset around the world yet Australian gov is talking about not allowing international travel until possibly 2022 or later!
