Better go with Ryzen 5 1600 af for $199 + delivery @ jw

    Better spec (6 cores + 12 threads , 3.2 Ghz)

    • +17

not a chance, for gaming the huge IPC advantage makes the 3300x a better part.

    • +8

this one trumps 1600af in gaming by a margin

    • +3

the 3300X is around 19-24% in average FPS and is only 3% slower in gaming compared to the 3600, Source: Optimum tech

      • -1

If you're gaming at 1440p the difference is quite small and 6/12 more viable for general usage.

      • +1

Sorry, are you saying it's roughly 19-24% faster in average FPS compared to the 3600?

I'm tossing up this or the 3600, and the savings the 3300x gives means I could buy 2x16gb ram as opposed to 2x8gb

        • +2

          19-24% improvement over 1600af

          • @scottySK: Ahh I get what Mortgagetightass was saying now. Cheers!

        • +2

Whichever you go, get the 2x 16gb regardless

    • Better go with Ryzen 5 1600 af for $199 + delivery @ jw

      Ahahahaahhahaahahhaahhahahahaahhahahaha. No.

      • Try running 10 VMs on 3300x …

        Ahahahaahhahaahahhaahhahahahaahhahahaha. Not a chance..

        • +1

Would the 1600af cope? Its an obsolete chip that became popular because it was only $85. It isn't that cheap anymore

        • Try running 10 VMs on 3300x …

For the 0.0001% of people who’d do that, probably (but if you really had the need for that you wouldn’t be looking at either the 3300X or the 1600AF anyway).

For the everyone else the 3300X is the better buy for less money.

As Superannuation said the 1600AF only made sense when it was much cheaper than this comparing it to the 2600/3600 and before the 3100/3300X were released.

          • @Nousernamehere: at a budget level for secondary backup host, it's a much better choice… Horses for courses I guess, but even "For the 0.0001% " of world population there are still heaps out there….LoL

            • @dlovep:

Yep, sure thing there. Recommend an obsolete processor for higher cost for such a niche usage scenario compared to what the overwhelming majority would use a PC for to try and justify your point 🙄

              • @Nousernamehere: Just to be sure we are talking about 1600 af, which is a rebatched of 2600 in case you are not aware … if 2600 is obsolete processor for you, I guess it's no point to discuss, have a nice day.

                • @dlovep: I’m well aware of what the 1600AF is.

It only ever made sense before the 3300X (and even the 3100) were released and the 3600 was ~$350 and it was only ~$150 itself.

With the 1600AF being over $200 you’d choose the cheaper 3300X for gaming and general PC usage, and if you needed 6c12t for video editing or running 10 VM’s (as you claimed) you’d go for the 3600 for ~$260.

The 1600AF just doesn’t make any sense at its current price point.

        • curious what do people run on 10 VM's lol

          • +1

@abctoz: For web hosting / VPS - 1600 af will out perform 3300x, especially per core/thread vm.

        • Whats a VM ?

          • @Noobist45: Virtual Machine, it means that run 10 'instances'? Of an OS…. Like running 5 windows and 5 Linux systems…. Geez that was a poor explanation on my part sorry :p

    • +1

      1600af should be 150 not 199

  • +5

Wait for the 3600 to be $250 again

  • It’s saying out of stock but you can buy now and they will deliver when available.

    2021 ?

    • Yeah thats the problem isnt it. At $210 it's a pretty good price but you might be waiting into the new year before it arrives. When the 3100 is on sale for $150 I'm tempted to get it and stick with that until the 4000 series is released, time passes and it starts to drop in price.

Hahaha 2.5mths from the japanese guy's comment in the reviews

  • Why does Amazon UK have so little stock of so many things?

    • The European free trade deal is very bad and makes it difficult and expensive to get anything from anywhere except Europe. Hence brexit…

    • It's not just UK. There was a shortage worldwide. I got comments on pcpartpickers asking how I managed to find stock from ppl all over the world.

Are there no stock on shoppingexpress? I got it $210 delivered in June at peak Covid prices. Delivery took 5 days.

  • What's funny is Amazon UK ships faster than Amazon US… Probably because of corona tho.

    • Certainly has not been the case for me.

Usually USA is a week and a bit
Ordered ram and a 3400g over two weeks ago..

Don't think i will order from UK again

      • Ordered an nvme drive 20/08 and it was here 27/08. US orders normally take 7-10.

  • What's the cheapest board non garbage to go with this? No overclock.

    • +2

There was an ASRock b550 a couple of days ago for around $130. That would be fine.

      Correction. $115

We have a Gigabyte B450M gaming motherboard. on Special at UMart $115 usually $159 I paid $130

  • Wow. I'm quite impressed by how well this compares to the famous 3600. Now to decide 🧐

    • Ryzen 4000 series around the corner….

      • 4000 series will be significantly more expensive. I would bet good money on it.

If they outperform intel they have no competition. AMD aren't a benevolent charity. A 3600 at $250 is still a better buy that a $350 4600

        • I mean wait till 4000 series come out then grab the 3000 series…

  • +2

Got one thanks and will be returning 5 3600 that is still in the mail from Amazon UK. $73.81 saving for me just have to wait a bit longer:(

  • I'm upvoting this just because it's available to buy, the price is a total bonus.

    Anyone know shipping cost ?

EDIT: Never mind, noticed it said $12

  • +1

Paid $210 through shopping express at end of June delivered. Super happy with the performance.
