Awaiting for RTX 3000 incoming comments…

    • RTX 3090.

      • +1

I've heard it's gonna draw like 400W though.

        • +9

          And cost a kidney.

        • Apparently 300w with the new Nvidia 12 pin connector , The new RTX3090 is supposed to be as fast as the RTX2080Ti?

          • +1

@aussieprepper: IMO it should be faster to make it worth while with it power draw and new connector.

          • +4

@aussieprepper: That wouldn't make sense, pretty sure the last rumours had it at 40%+ faster than 2080Ti with 2nd gen ray tracing cores and 3rd gen tensor cores.

            • @Osiris: I think you are right i heard rumors of a 3090Ti but i am not sure. One was meant to have 24gb of memory? So 3090 should be heaps faster i think the 3080 will compete with the RTX2080Ti on price and performance.

            • @Osiris: 60% seems to be the thinking.

          • @aussieprepper: Does that mean we need to get a new PSU then for the RTX3000 series since our power supply dont support 12 pin connector. Mines like a 8 by 6 pin connector. From what I heard, if you get the adapator for the pin the graphic card doesnt run as well since your not getting the full wattage through the adapter which defeats the purpose of the graphics card extra performance. So its like Nvidia is getting us to get new PSUs just for their graphics card :(

            • @storageguy: leaked cards show dual 8 pin connectors for third party cards, and only founders edition will have 12 pin. If performance is even around 50% better im going to buy a 3090

            • @storageguy: Shouldn't matter i think. Nvidia will split the extra power through the pins some how so its even. Its interesting as in sense that you will have more amps going through a smaller connector heating up the 12 pin connector more. More power less space, Less insulation between the connecting pins.

If the board partners want to use two eight pin connectors they would need a major redesign of the PCB, well at least the power traces.

          • @aussieprepper: The rumor was the 3070 is on par with the 2080ti. The 3090 was the titan but AMD freaked Nvidia out and planning to release the Titan later with a crazy ton of vram.

Lol they literally release the new models this week.

Being a betting man like i am, i dont think the price of the older 20xx series will actually rise on the release of the 30xx series

So i'll sit and wait and watch cat videos until Wednesday-ish when all will be revealed.

      • +2

Unless 3000 series is severely overpriced or underwhelming. Or built on Samsungs node and everyone holds off for the refresh.

        • True, but unlikely according to pretty much every leak that's out there. Expecting up to 40% performance boost for the 2080 super level stuff at comparable price

But hey its just leaks (by Nvidia)….

        • +1

nVid wouldn't want to overcook their GPU pricing too much to turn customers off their products. There are good mid range offerings from AMD these days and consoles (also AMD powered) on the horizon.

Having said that, they'll probably gouge early adopters this year then drop prices as market competition increases.

        • 3080 won't be on Samsung's 8nm node, which is really 10nm, and would mean massive chips with strange yields and bad clocks.

It's 7nm EUV based on the transistor counts that are being leaked, just a question of whether it's Samsung or TSMC for that, though probably the latter given that's what GA100 server chips were made from. What the 3070 and down are composed of is still undetermined, but it's unlikely they're using another process either.

      • +1

Likewise, I don't see many scenarios where these prices don't come down especially the 2080Ti, laugh my ass off at retailers still trying to get better part of 2K for that come Wednesday morn.

    • Forget about that. Just get yourself an 8800 GTX. It's more than enough…

    • +1

I mean it's safe to say that a 3080 wouldn't be far from this price, and far more powerful.

Availability may be an issue early on, but there's a reason to wait 2 days to see what's announced.

3000 series reveal is like 4 days away, you'd have to several sorts of stupid to buy this now.

    • +3

you'd have to several sorts of stupid to buy this now.

Sits smugly staring at my 1660S that I bought a few weeks ago that's already worthless

HAH! You don't know jack about me boyo!

      • +5

I imagine cost and lack of supply of 3K series is going to be a dealbreaker until next year so I think you might have the last laugh :)

        • Budget models even longer

        • How dare you ruin my pity party!

  • 3070 is expected to be the equivalent in the next gen and will potentially cost (if rumours are true) around $850 AUD delivered.

It's certainly what I'm holding out for :-)

    • +1

ooof $300 more than i paid for a 1070 back in 16'…..AMD needs to up their GPU game and Ryzen the GPU market too.

CPU market is AMAZING now. Imagine if, one day, the gpu market becomes the same.

    • Now I'm reading this comment 5 days after you posted, and it ended up 3070 killed not just 2080 but 2080 Ti, for even less than $850. This just feels like unreal😂

  • 2080 super is $1042 on NewEgg

    • +1

Link? I can’t find this on NewEgg AU

  • New generation to be announced tomorrow😂

    • +1

      You mean 3. 2/9/2020.

    • Announced… good luck getting your hands on one.
