Are they funding this promotion with the interest rate change they are withholding?

    I am a nab customer :(

      I am a nab customer :(

are you aware that they easily have the lowest home loan rate of all the top 4 banks ???

      http://tinyurl.com/4yhscmb

      • +1

Lowest SVR yes. Lowest home loan rate most likely no. They have used the lower SVR to their advantage by offering their customers a lower discount compared to other Big 4 banks, such that the effective home loan rate is comparable with their competitors. For example, if you are being offerred 1% off SVR from CBA, you may only have got 0.85% off SVR from NAB back in June 2011.

Nobody pays the SVR rate without a discount, well at least not the smart ozbargainers.

      • And that's still a rip off , currently on ING 7.12% which will be 6.87% from Monday.

even ubank.com.au is cheaper and is backed by NAB

        • I'm with nab, reducing from 6.82% to 6.62% (could have been 6.57% had they passed on the cut in full). Will be further trailing other banks, such as Suncorp Bank where it is still 6.8% (before rate cut adjustment) for loans >$250K.

      • yes

and I will remain a nab customer

my 6.77% will fall to 6.57% on monday…. but 6.52% would have been nice

        • Equal tie now.

CBA 6.82% (1% off SVR) becoming 6.57% whenever my 0.25% rate cut is passed on.

          Anyone better this rate?

BTW: I'm guessing CBA will give u 1% off when you have > $500k in home loans (the more you borrow, the more they will discount you).

      • i still wonder about ubank, any disadvantage switching to there?

        • ubank is owned by NAB

Meanwhile Westpac just posted a 7 BILLION dollar profit.

    Absolutely outrageous. Makes me sick

    • "Absolutely outrageous."

exactly… analysts were predicting a higher profit and therefore shares fell when the news was announced…

      not happy… >:(

    • -3

Don't take this the wrong way but I honestly never got the whole OMG massive profits are bad! Feels just like tall poppy syndrome that you experience as an individual.

More profit = more company taxes = better services for everyone

Yes I admit companies can be a**holes to get there, but there is a silver lining, and frankly their GOAL is to maximise shareholder value, so they're just doing their job.

Oh and a final note, Return on Assets for banks are only about 1%, hardly call that outrageous.

      • +3

"Return on Assets for banks are only about 1%"

are you referring to the bank's assets though, or the customer's assets ???

      • +1

More profit = more company taxes = better services for everyone

but alot of companies manage to pay very little tax

    • You forget the reason these banks exist. I say kudos to them.

Hi KimKardashian. Good first post. Sorry to hear about your split. What better way to feel better than make another video. If you need a co-star, count me in. LOL

    • +3

Maybe Kim heared about NAB's "Break Up" campaign and sympathised ????

    • CCrap….

      Please stop cutting my grass.

      Peace.

      Ray.

I would like to get everyone to give our finger point at these arrogant bank boss.

ALL big banks,. I am referring to.

  • Alright if you have access to a kiosk, I guess.

  • +1

A long wait for $50! Possibly up to almost 3 months.
"If you meet the criteria, we’ll post your gift card by 20 January 2012."

  • Just spoke to Chadstone Kiosk and confirmed they have it as well (Guessing its all retail kiosks). It says by 20th of January so should receive it before.

  • All the big banks would soon collapse (or drastically downsize) if people stopped using them.

Fact is, they provide an amazing service that most people simply cannot live without nowadays. Yes you get the occasional niggle, but what other system offers you so much flexibility with your money?

  • +1

Only $50, should I travel to chatswood, is it worth the effort……..

I don't know if I can be bothered, these bank things really need to be $100 to motivate me anymore.

  • Anyone know ,can I sign up my children under 16 & under 12?

    • i would guess not because a visa debit card is involved. ring a kiosk to check.

      • Anyone of any age can open a classic and an isaver. If a child is under 16, a simple debit card may be issued.

    • mattgal is right. Unfortunately, the answer is no. The form to register for this promo requires you to enter DOB and the year only goes up to 1993 in the drop down: http://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/nab/campaigns/personal…

But you know what you can do with 2 kids? Education Tax Refund on laptops, gadget, internet etc! YEAH!!

Also open those 10% or so high interest kiddie saver accounts (not sure which banks still have them). Yeah they only allow $100 or so deposit a month but at least that money will be earning 10% as opposed to the lowered savings rates (approx 6ish%) thanks to RBA drop.
