Great deal for backup capability and a well named brand. For those looking for a 6 outlet power board anyway, this serves many purposes!

  • Good UPS, but pretty bad software (does seem to work though). APC are better but this is very cheap. Only 3 of the sockets are battery backed up (the other 3 have surge protection). You wouldn't want more than computer, monitor and modem on the battery and your other peripherals in the surge sockets.

Everyone should have at least this much protection. Can save your hard drive in a power cut.

    • Everyone should have at least this much protection.

That's a good idea in a world where everyone has their backup bases well-covered first. But if people have a PC and a single external HD for backing up a few hundred gigs of precious family videos, and $70 to spend on increasing their protection against data corruption/loss, they'd be fools to spend it on this rather than an additional backup HD.

For those who are after a basic UPS, this Belkin is good value but don't expect it to let you ride out a power cut in peace - once it kicks in, it beeps every 5 seconds or so, basically reminding you the product was intended for giving just enough time to shut down your devices, even if they're efficient enough that there's actually no hurry.

      • If they have the external drive that already gives them two drives that have the data. I've found most home users struggle to manage that simple concept (keep the external drive connected and let the backup software do its job). A second backup drive will really confuse them and they just won't use it. Far better to get a UPS which takes care of itself and offers different protection for the drives.

If they want an off site backup online free ones are a good option. Dropbox, ADrive loads of others.

  • +1

i missed the 2-3pm part … probably like some other people

Coz the website says: Price: $72.99 inc. GST

  • I'd buy it if pickup was available :)

  • Doesn't have the $12 shipping option.

    • worked fine for me

    • Shipping is $10.5 for me.

  • How long would the Battery UPS last? Looks small.

    • Depends what's plugged into it. There is also a 400VA version of this model. If you check on the APC site they have calculators to work it out. I would think a normal computer would get 10-15 mins on this model.

You either get a small capacity one and it pretty much only lets the computer 'weather the storm' and shut down gracefully, or you get a big one to give you working time through a power cut. Big ones (1500VA up) can cost multiple $100's.

    • I bought two of these and have been really, really disappointed with the battery backup time. One computer could not even shut down quick enough before the battery cutout (after allowing 1 minute for open programs to cleanly close) although I got around this by adjusting the default cutout percentages. My experience on backup life on what I would call normal computers is 3 minutes, maybe 4 minutes tops if you were lucky.

I was so unhappy with the performance of these I took it up with Belkin. After a dispute (including over how the reported 'load' doubled when it cutover into backup mode) I managed to get them both replaced. Both replacements had exactly the same performance issues and I gave up after that.

I've kept using them because they keep the computers running for those two second power dropouts and brownouts but thats it. And as a power board I guess.

Also Umart online do these normally for $69 excluding delivery if you were desperate for them.

Choice have also done a review of these back in 2009 if people want more information. http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/technology/comput…

      • I have a MacPro (and a few other things like adsl modem) and found these didn't even cope with the amount of power it needed. They just shut down straight away. I got a good APC 1500VA one. These Belkin ones are only for small to mid sized domestic computers. You really need an idea of how much power your setup is drawing. One of those cheap power meters ($20-30) are good for that.

  • EXPIRED.

  • Now lists as $152!

  • HT normally has it for $79 if your desperate. http://www.ht.com.au/part/V1023-Belkin-Surge-Protector-with-…
