[eBay Plus] Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine Pro $591.71 Delivered @ Mad Electronics eBay

470
PARTY21

Original Coupon Deal

This is the first time I've seen the UDM-PRO under $600. I'm still contemplating because I don't need some of the functions but it is very tempting.

Update: The seller has increase the price by $50 so I've marked this deal as expired. Back down to $591.71 again.

Solid device but missing PoE/PoE+ which is very disappointing at this price point

    • I don't know a lot about similar devices but seems like a feature you could forgive them for since it does so many other things? What are your thoughts?

      • I think the fact it does so much makes the situation worse rather than better.
It does so much… but falls short of being a complete solution for a total small/medium sized network solution.

Totally agree, wish they had added poe or simply stripped it down to be an improvement on the USG-PRO-4

      • It am be the only newest gateway but its not mean to be the replacement for the USG-Pro-4 the UniFi Next-Generation Gateway Pro (UXG-Pro) is meant to be but it only just hit Early Access for the USA.

    • +1

Whilst I am sure the official response would be that POE would make the unit too hot. I suspect it is to force users to have to fork out for a separate ubiquiti poe switch.

    • Yes very strange. I have the Ubiquiti 8 port smart switch which in theory is one of the devices these dream machines replace. But I'd need to go back to using the power transformer with some wifi devices.

Not sure how you came to this conclusion when they are clearly two different devices.

    • +3

The idea of the UDM Pro is that if you need POE you most likely will have another switch. And if you only need 1 or 2 devices you would be happy with a POE injector.

I just want a new USG (the uxg).

I don't want protect and the cloud key built in.

    • Same. Wasn't it in the Early Access store already? So hopefully soon.
      edit: 22/6 apparently. hopefully soon!

      • Was even more expensive than the udm pro from memory. I do want a rack mount as well.

The pricing on the UXG makes it DOA unless they drop it once it hits retail. I can't quite understand who they think will actually buy it for more than the UDMP

I just want the ability to self host Unifi Protect without their hardware.

  • Thanks OP, was looking for one… Just purchased

How did this get a downvote? lol

  • wow great price

  • I generally don't get the hype around these luxury products for the average home user.

    • I don't think these are meant for the average home user.
As for me I am experiencing slowdowns on my Orbi system due to the number of devices in the house, especially now with 2 people WFH, kids on devices, and a large number of smart devices.

    • Yeah I don't get it as well. Use Pfsense on x86 hardware if you want proper routing power, and use some good Wi-Fi APs. Done.

    • +2

They're not designed for the average home user.

I would have gone for it if the UniFI Protect supported third party cameras. Without that, it will be just serving the purpose of putting my current setup in a single box, which doesn't entice me a lot.

    What is it?

Grrrr, just paid $675 on special on the 26th of aug, thought that was a good deal till i seen this - damm you OP but congrats to anyone looking for one - solid price

    • my thoughts exactly

    Be aware that:
    1. The 8x Ethernet ports max out at 1 Gbps, so you'll best to avoid using this for inter-vlan routing
    2. Camera (Protect) runs on the default VLAN and can't be changed. Meaning if you have cameras wired outside, people can tap that cable and get into your default VLAN. (My solution is to move everything away from VLAN 1, and only kept the controller and Cameras on this VLAN)
    3. To get around problem 1, I'm trying to setup my Pro switch for L3 routing. But for some reason some DHCP options are non-configurable for a Layer 3 network
    4. Edit: Jumbo frames don't friggin work! You enable it in the portal, but it will not forward the packets. FWIW jumbo frames work on the pro switch, but the caveat is that router actually fragment the packets before forwarding. So if you want to use full Unifi setup, it's best to not use jumbo frames at all.

    Note also:
    1. without firewall rules, the RAM consumption in my setup is ~40%. With firewall rules it jumped to 60%, with 3x G3 Flex cameras it's now 75%. This isn't that big of an issue as I actually prefer my RAM utilization to be higher (not lower).
    2. With IPS on, throughput dropped from around 900+Mbps to 700+Mbps (IIRC). So I think their IPS is inspecting all traffic on the router, and AFAICT I can't specify it to monitor only on the WAN port
    3. DPI is usless, client stats is useless. It's more a summary and don't really break down deeper into that. Worse I don't think they're accurate. I have some devices using GBs of data which it can't.
    4. Got DHCPv6-PD to work (easy to setup), but for some reason the portal only shows me IPv4 stuffs?

I'm running on Firmware 1.8.0 with beta 6.0.15 controller.

Having moved from pfSense to Untangle and now to this. I find UDMP to be really primitive. But it get the basic job done.

Did not get this, but did get a 24 port Switch and the USG Pro 4 using this discount :) thanks OP

  • Even at the higher $631 price. Is this still considered a "good" price?

  • I would love to try out Ubiquiti's products, but I'm a bit worry about their quality after reading: https://community.ui.com/questions/An-Open-Letter-to-UI-You-…
    Could users share your experience?

    • Unfortunately, I agree with the post.
But, on a positive side, I am using Ubiquti for 4+ years and it was never perfect.
But at least UI staff was responding to some topics on forum.

Right now I don't know any better.

Thanks for your comment. Ordered the UDM pro anyway, hope its good ;)

  • Anyone received their UDM pro yet? I ordered this, one AC AP Pro and one HD Nano.. the APs arrived the next day (after i ordered them, which is a day after this bargain was put up), but still waiting on this one

    • and wouldn't you know it, as soon as you post, it arrives..
