What is the expiry for sim activation?

    • did you get any response? Mine expires in November. Not sure if I can keep that long after buying today? I cannot see any expiry date to activate the sim.

  • +10

    Any deals on Boost recharge?

  • +2

Is this the cheapest it's been? I got the telstra $300 for $219 (or cheaper with ow price beat) last year before Christmas so need to think about what to do whether to recharge it or port out. Still have heaps of data, so would be good to roll over but this is pretty good at 20gb month anyway.

    • port out once your data used up. This deal is good.

    • All 12 month plan does not allow data roll over. Make sure you use it up before your next recharge.

        • -1

this is boost, why did you quote telstra prepaid dude?

          • +4

            @lgacb08: Because he88388 said

All 12 month plan does not allow data roll over. Make sure you use it up before your next recharge

I'm on Telstra now considering porting to boost or staying with telstra and rolling data.

Pretty simple stuff, not sure why the downvotes.

    • Same for me. Looking for a better deal.

  • 5G?

    • Nope.

  • +5

Be aware…I utilized sim activation on 26/08 and still to this day the sim has not activated (transferring over from Vodafone). The online help via message does not work nor does the help line. If you look up their forums there is a lot of people having trouble with sim activation. I bought mine from Cellmate although its not their fault but just buyer beware. I am still making all sorts of attempts to get this to work though eg. contacting via complaints (still no reply).

FWIW, ported a service from Voda to Boost 3 days ago. Process took 90 minutes. Could the issue be at Voda’s end with the release of your number?

    • +10

Hey man, I had the same issue as you, I was stuck for 1 month without a working sim. I lodged a complaint to TIO, and it was fixed within a week: https://www.tio.com.au/making-a-complaint

      • I made a complaint through TIO about a month ago and have received no update from them at all :/

    • +6

I transferred 5 numbers to boost, 2 from optus, 1 telstra and 2 vodafone, telstra and optus took 10 minutes but the vodafone took more than 3 weeks after many calls. I have to leave a 1star feedback on productreview, then boost reply with an email to contact and then help me port the number in. They also give me $40 vouchers for the delayed.

    • Also had issues porting out of vodafone to boost, turns out the phone was on a shared account and that still had an outstanding payment on it. Spoke with vodafone to pay the bill and transfer me to a new vodafone prepaid account in my name. From there it was easy to use the live messager on the boost website to get it ported over.

    • +1

Good old Vodafone, screwing up time and time again. I don't like Telstra much but I will never in my life use Vodascum again.

    • The common mistake I see is that you remove previous Sim when porting. They will contact your previous number before porting.

      • Previous sim card was not removed in this case. I had a new phone for the new Boost Sim card.

        Just an update:
After multiple attempts through different Telstra/Boost representatives via phone + online chat including complaint process, i would say maybe the 10th rep finally got it to work by cancelling the initial port order then re-initiating the port process which worked within 4 hours. So it really comes down to which rep you get who knows how to solve the issue. (Very time consuming and frustrating just to get onto one rep though)

Don't forget to go officeworks price beat. $12.25 extra off one.

    • +8

No pricebeat at OW with codes.

  • Cheers picked one up

  • Can i get this and port from telstra retaining my existing number ?

    • +1

Yes. I ported a friend from telstra to boost 6 months ago and no issues.

      • Were they on Telstra prepaid or postpaid? Hoping to port from Telstra postpaid when my plan expires 23/9/2020

        • Same, from the JB "Telstra" plan. I think I got $500 credit for signup.

  • TA, how come you post a deal that is better than the cellmate StoreRep? 🤔

    • +19

      I negotiate hard lol.

      • +8

        Lol

        • +6

Hey rep why does your store name sound like we'll be behind bars next to each other?

      • +1

        "for the exposure"

    • +1

Because then it doesn't make the store look bad :-) I bought at a higher price and seeing this makes me die a little inside. First world problems. Feels bad man.

  • +2

Be careful with porting in an existing number, mine is being ported since Aug 31 and still no help from the support (they told me to wait for the technical team to look after). The call centre is closed, the chat support is very limited and the only way to get help is to use this link https://boost.com.au/boost-live-chat-app-page/ with disabled adblock instead of navigating their site which has no link to it (I managed to get it by tricking their very rude automated phone self-service)

    • +2

I ported my kogan to boost with no issues in 1 day.

      • +1

I am glad it worked for you.

    • +3

Same happen to me i ported since 31 aug from optus to boost. They ported my number to boost. But not completed my activation. So now i am stuck with my number in boost sim card without activation and credits at all. Cant make call or msg or internet they asked me to recharge which is idiot. I paid 265 bought from cellmate that have $300 credit. Cant call only support live chat and keep changing staff every 2-3 hours and asking what happen. Becareful when you port!

    Great find

  • +1

+1 for the code name. Well done TA!

  • +2

Can it be used as a recharge on existing boost plan?

    • +1

No probably not, since it is a stater kit, but what we can do is port to some other sim, and port back to boost using this stater kit

    • +1

      Hello.

This cant be used as a recharge. Its for new customers or customers porting from other networks.

      Kind Regards
      CELLMATE

      • will it still be useable early next year?

        • did you get any response? Mine expires in November. Not sure if I can keep that long after buying today? I cannot see any expiry date to activate the sim.

          • @SAL12: Nope, no response. I think I'm going to switch.

I've been getting bad speeds on Boost lately anyway.

    • +1

My existing Boost coming to end in Nov. I am wondering same how to stay on Boost.

      • +4

easy buy a 2$ sim from any other network (OPTUS or VODAFONE NETWORK , Port existing boost number to that. as soon as porting is finished use that Boost starter kit to switch over to boost again

        • +1

Do I have to be with another carrier for a month or I can port back to Boost after 2-3 days?

        • do not do this if you're on $150 plan

          • @lgacb08: Hi mate, can you please tell why? Am on a $150 plan atm.

            • +1

@OZBholic: If 80G/year is enough for you then just recharge it. You will lose the grandfathered plan forever once you port out.
But if you need 240G/yr, port out and in to get this plan.

          • @lgacb08: Yup me too on150$ plan atm why should i not buy it?

            • @USER DC: People on the $150 PLAN please read up on it. If you exit out of this grandfather plan you will not be able to go back.

              • @he88388: Ok do you know when is last recharge date? Mine goes out in December

  • +1

    nice

  • Damn just got the $260 deal. Still a good price but this is even better.

    • same here ordered Wednesday night and got the sim today super quick postage

      • +1

@ngocielockz: When is the expire date on the Sim starter pack?

  • Too bad I am with Telstra from the deal pixel4 for 12 months last year , my contract will end at 20 October , now I am looking for one like this , but the number can not be ported to the same network , oh well .

    • all you have to do is changing Telstra postpaid to prepaid then port to Boost directly, or you can port out of Telstra with one of those cheap prepaid pack for a week or a month then to Boost

  • With Covid restrictions and being in Victoria, I've got 224gb left until March. Normally, I use 15-20gb per month.

    • ya i barely even use 2 GB a month

  • +1

Interested to know when this Sim pack expires?

  • +1

    Thanks got 2

    • I cannot see any expiry date to activate the sim. do you know? thanks

  • +1

Thumbs up for the coupon code!

  • +1

    Thanks mate, ordered one

  • Just ported out from boost to iiNet for $15 month. Not sure if I should port back in for this deal.

    • +1

this is only good for people who don't like porting in and out so often, I used to like Boost 12-month pack and plan until I learnt about Belong trick to cost just about $15-20 for 4-month worth of mobile, then port out to Kogan or something with just 99c to $4.99 or $14.99 for 3 months Kogan on sales, after that just port back to Belong. works like a champ, cost just about less than $80 per year (used to spend easily over 1K per year on postpaid plan which I don't want to anymore lol)

      • Wow maybe I should try that out but not sure how much stuffing around is required.

Is it a pain in the arse?

        • you should try, no pain at all, just filling info and a few clicks and voila :)

  • +1

There is speculation Boost may be changing carriers in the next few months (Optus/TPG) - https://ausdroid.net/2020/09/02/boost-mobile-turns-global-ro…

    I'm still buying one though.

    • Reading the article and the comments, I found this posted by a T K

The current Boost contract with Telstra still has several more years to run. It commenced in 2018 for 5 years.

As noted by GrKTcB below this is likely just a side effect of Telstra transitioning its services from Siebel to Console (Salesforce). Telstra’s own $45 console starter plan (trial plan) has the same limitation on roaming.

      https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

Plenty of discussions about Console rollout and limitations here:
      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3mjz2mv9

    • Not likely, as the above comment said and after reading the article Boost have moved from Optus to Telstra before. Don't know if it was 2018 or 2013.

Most ozbargainers myself included only use Boost as it uses the Telstra network. It is their MAJOR Draw Card and if they do switch to using Optus or the newer Vodafone/TPG network I will prob switch as well.

Telstra for me works so much better than Voda or Optus but others have different experiences with different networks.

  • main difference between this and this?
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…
    besides the 40gb / $40?

    genuinely curious

    • +1

Kogan uses Vodafone and Boost use Telstra

  • +1

    I was saying boos-urns

  • Just bought one… 85 still in stock

If people prefer there is also the option of getting it for $300 here with a $50 Coles Myer Voucher (so works out to $250).

    • +1

But you can have this deal & $55 to spend wherever you want 🤔

      • +1

probably price protection, so you can double dip

  • Thanks got one mate. I was about to get the deal of $270 tomorrow and luckily found this one today. :)

  • Got a bad feeling Boost will be doing a bait and switch in a while. Probably the best value pre-paid service around with the full Telstra network. They’ve signed up heaps of new customers. Already Dropped the $150 12 month deal. Soon to drop international roaming and there’s a rumour they might even be changing carriers next year. Hope the latter isn’t true.

    Thanks TA, picked up 2.

  • My current plan with Kogan expires in December. what is the to activate it?

    • +2

      Hello.

The sims have a validity till mid 2022.

  • I am waiting for a recharge deal on 80GB plan. I need to renew my plan in a few months. Haven't seen any deal recently.

  • +1

I have 2 months left with boost and still have 234gb of data left. Next time I will pick a lower data plan if it is cheaper.

    • Nobody predicted Covid and being at home so much. I would have done the same

    • You used only 6gb data in 10 months?

  • +1
