Good deal but I don’t think anyone who wanted these cards would be “on the fence” at all. Also not sure how this’ gonna work as Australia’s not getting the FE cards… sigh

    • It should apply to third party cards too. Just got to get one first.

    • +2

This K it will still work but it's gonna be mental

    • -8

You can buy the FE card directly from the NVIDIA au website. Pre-orders aren't live yet but you can sign-up to be notified when it does

      • +9

Nvidia announced that the founder's addition cards went coming to aus at all.

        • Dang missed that story this morning. The Nvidia page is still taking preorders though so I'm still holding out hope. Haven't seen one design I like from third-party companies so will be importing the FE edition of the RTX 3080 if I have to.

          • +4

@merajaan: taking pre orders? i dont think thats true

          • @merajaan: Even if it's far worse. Like most of the founders editions have been in the past?

        • +1

I've seen no official word from Nvidia though.

        • No official information yet about that. If they aren't selling FE cards why would they advertise pricing?

            • +1

@gentlekoala5906: And I've heard the opposite from people who've asked Nvidia.

              • @shaun-o: who?

                • +1

@dcep: There's a comment on the Kotaku article.

I asked Nvidia through their online chat too.

                  • +1

@shaun-o: There's a reply from the author in that article though too. I'd say it's more likely the low level customer support drone is wrong than the guy who spoke to the higher ups at the launch event. But we will see.

                    • @RI4V4N: Kotaku, sounds like fake news.
No quotes or offical statement. Just a vague. Nvidia said.

Probably just clickbait or they are trying to procure one for themselves.

I'm not saying Nvidia will 100% sell founders cards in Aus. I will wait for something official though.

                      • @vanreemer: kotaku has as much credibility as the dailymail

                        speculation and assumption

              • @shaun-o: Awesome, there's still hope!

      • +3

Nvidia AU have confirmed on FB that they won't be selling FE cards

        • Im so sad right now ;(

        • Not sure to + or - this comment based on the contents :'(

    • What's FE cards?

      • +1

        founders edition

    • +2

Nearly all these free game deals have applied to the third party cards as well.

Usually nobody wants the founders. Last time they were all nosiey blower cards.

    • +1

if its any help to anyone about the founders edition cards, i was talking to NVIDIA support yesterday and i asked them about it and they said that it was a rumour that founders wont be sold in aus and that i should wait a few days for a global announcement. not sure how seriously to take it but lets hope its true.

  • wasnt this US only?

          Neverland, Wonderland, North Korea etc.

        • +2

A lot of European countries for some reason e.g. France, Germany, Serbia. The only European countries that I can see are like Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, San Marino which is an odd mix if you ask me.

      • +1

        ah ok, didnt see that

I saw this promotion before but it was in the US Nvidia site, good to see we are included

Was gonna buy anyway so a nice surprise

  • +8

    If you can get one

  • +3

Isn't there also GeForce Now for a year? Though I guess it's not yet available - do we know whether we'll get a year once it launches?

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/30-series-watch-do…

    • i'm guessing not.

  • +3

watch dogs franchise are shit, i'd rather valhalla

    • +1

      Couldn't agree more.

    • +13

Same game. Different skin. Lol. Played one ubisoft game you've played them all.

      • Agreed hah, pretty much it

      • Siege me outside.

      • legion seems to be different in that there's no central protagonist
you can recruit people to your cause and then play as them so you can be anyone

        • yep, will have to see!

    • +1

but assassin's creed is also shit. ubisoft is a terrible developer

    • I'm playing Watch Dogs 2 now, the world sucks balls compared to GTA, but its a pretty fun game, especially since I got it for free. Would never pay $80 or whatever for the new one though haha

  • -6

By the way NVidia won't be selling founders edition in Aus. No plans at all to sell them here.

    https://www.kotaku.com.au/2020/09/nvidia-rtx-3090-3080-3070-…

Kind of a relief to be honest. I don't want a graphics card that is designed to heat my CPU.

  • Will be super interested in seeing if this game actually turns out ok….

  • Gonna have to be a 3070 16gb variant when one comes out.

    • -1

Best wait a couple of weeks as new cards expected from AMD on 7th Oct, with the new RDNA2 cards suggested to be packing 16GB and priced more competitively.

      • +1

The 3070's aren't coming out until October so it may be a good chance to compare against the AMDs before buying

  • +1

If only they included a copy of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1+2 for the PC…

  • +3

'While supplies last' will mean approximately 90 seconds in this case, assuming they are referring to the GPUs.

Seems stupid of them to be increasing demand when it already exceeds supply by about 40 times.

    • +1

I don't think this will increase demand per se, this won't tip anyone to buy a card to save $50 or so.

It's more of a sweetener for those who are already buying, to show off DLSS and RTX improvements in a new game with their new card.

  • What's the Aussie price for em cards?

    • 700-800 for the 3070, 1.2k for the 3080, 2.4k for the 3090. There will be sales obviously and variances.

      • +9

Add $200 if you want to get them any time soon

        • Since pictures leaked like 6 months ago. I want to believe they have a lot of stock.

          • +1

@RI4V4N: well I think that's what everyone is believing anyway, otherwise why would people be bidding $1k+ for 2080 ti and $750-800 for 2080 on eBay

      • +4

800 or so is the listed price for the FE 3070, expect 1k+ for decent AIBs, 1.4k+ for 3080 (also it's been said FE won't even be sold in Aus)

retailers will be jacking up prices anyway due to shortage

  • Oof! So sad we don't get FE in Australia

    • +2

Why they are always the worst.

      • +1

Fair point usually, but this design looks exceptionally good from them. Reviews will be out in 7 days, so we'll know more then.

        • Yeah it might be the Fe design is good cooling wise but then it seems like they would let the third parties copy it if it was actually better than theirs

      • +1

Need a 2 slot card for the ghost s1 case and so far only the FE 3070/3080 are 2 slot - the thinnest AIB is from EVGA which is 2.2 slots although apparently their XC black edition comes without a backplate and will just fit

      • People prefer cards that don't look like transformers + water cooling potential.

  • +4

I wonder how people are jumping to buy 3K series without any actual "neutral" benchmark , I'm also looking to buy one
(3070 actually ) but will be patient to see how the real performance and Nvidia comparison hype with 2080Ti will look like.

    • +2

In this environment, if you wait then you're gonna wait for a long time

Even if reviews are bad, there are plenty of people that already sold their 2080s so I'm quite confident to say that you would have no problem selling at cost

    • +1

The FE review NDA for the 3080 lifts on the 14th of September, and then the initial third party card reviews lift on the 17th.

You can extrapolate 3070 performance pretty easily from there, as it's going to be about 68-75% of those (particularly if you can get a model with 16 Gbps GDDR6).

      • yeah mate , understand.
Just the hype of selling for something we don't know how would perform is interesting to me , everybody is deeply trusting Nvidia which quite often screws it's own top end users :)

        • +1

I can tell you enough about what the future of this stuff is:

          • These will overclock better than what's come before them, and NVIDIA are claiming some big strides in their power-performance curve
          • Additional FP32 performance will unlock over time, as currently it doesn't seem to be optimally utilised in standard rasterisation workloads; I'd guess up to another 25%
          • DLSS 3.0 will be a thing eventually, and these updated Tensor cores will take unique advantage of that with higher performance at each given base resolution (and more base resolutions being unlocked either side, eg. 720p upscaled to 4k); where DLSS 2.0 peaks at 2x performance, you should see DLSS 3.0 peak at 3x, maybe as high as 4x given the dynamic resolution updates with DLSS 2.1.
          • DMA between NVMe drives and the GPU will unclog CPU and bandwidth bottlenecks alongside full-spec DX12 Ultimate features (mesh shaders, VRS, sampler feedback)

That's already been made fairly clear by the numbers and SDKs that are out there, and there are additional side-benefits to some of this tech (better AI, better procedural generation, better audio, smaller install sizes).

If you're on a 10 series or later, Ampere is a worthy upgrade, but I wouldn't touch the 3090. On top of that, I wouldn't really go past the 3070 unless you're planning on using 4K 120Hz+ TV/monitor/VR headset in the next 4 years. Hopper (MCM options on 5nm) is set to be another big leap forward, as will be at least the generation after that. That's the beauty and the curse of this new paradigm in graphics tech: so many strides to be made in optimisation and scaling of performance.

  • +3

I was hoping they'd give Cyberpunk 2077 as a bonus, like they did Witcher 3 with the 9xx series cards.

    • I think others were too, but with the hype surrounding it I was very doubtful they would, as there'd be a significant amount of overlap with people who waited to upgrade their graphics card and people who've been waiting for CP2077.

    • +1

CDPR need to pay for how much the game has cost to develop, as well as the Witcher sequel that's in the pipeline (or at least a game that's using enough of their Witcher game assets that they're upgrading it to their latest game engine). This GPU series would see them issue a lot of free copies… way more than the 900 series and Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk is set to take them to the next level as a company, so if you're getting sick of most of the stuff EA, Epic, Valve, Ubisoft, Tencent, Activision and the console makers are serving up, make sure to buy a retail copy of this game.

      • Nothing is free in this world, Nvidia would pay a licensing fee for each copy they 'give-away'.

        • It would be minimal though, and would eat into CDPR's returns far more than NVIDIA's.

Cyberpunk is going to make bank without promotions, there's no incentive for them to be offering bundles at launch.

  • +1

Where do you guys think the best place to buy these will be? I'm thinking PC Case gear but I've got no idea what time they'll release.

    • +1

Release is 11PM on the 17th. No idea for best place, but apparently PCCG has a good track record.

      • got my NR200 case via pre-sale from them (PCCG), they sent emails keeping me up to date on when to expect it, if the price is right i'd def go with them.

Just in comparison few other retailers had it available for "pre-sale" but canceled my order due to no stock…. (while in pre-sale so yeh there is no stock! lol) … anyway good luck @Nyclix, i dont think there will be many in stock, and the cards won't be available for pre-sale …personally without enough info on the 3rd party cards i wont be getting one on launch .. they cost too much to risk having a badly cooled one especially since my build is and itx build.

        • Thanks for the advice. I'm only really playing overwatch currently so it won't really matter if I have to wait a while to get one.

          • @Nyclix: if there is no rush then best to wait… and keep an eye on the reviews by Gamers Nexus and Hardware unboxed … they always have the best all round reviews imo :)

  • you're better off getting a one month subscription to uplay+. not like this game will have any longevity (ubisoft games in general)

  • Yeah Nvidia already confirmed Au and NZ aren't getting Founders Edition card. Their website is misleading, making everyone think that on 17th orders will open. That's not the case. Here is the most recent post on their FB confirming this. Read the comments - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=949335985533806&extid=MFAu…

I'm looking forward to getting an EVGA, preferably hybrid but I'm keeping my expectations low.

  • +1

These cards will sell out within the first hour of day 1, it's gonna be hard to get one. Good deal though, especially cause most will have decided to buy the card regardless.

  • +1

Could be worse. They might've tried to flog project cars 3 with it.

  • -6

This isn't a deal.. It's a free game that's included when you fork over thousands for a new video card…
Kinda like getting free car mats…

    • Some of us are already buying the card and didn't know about this. So yes it's a deal

      • -2

I'm sure you will know about it, it will have another redemption card in it like so many other IT hardware offers.
My Samsung SSD came with Rainbow 6 free. (Plastered all over the internal manual/documentation).

    • -1

      It's nothing like that.
Your analogy would be more appropriate if the deal was a free HDMI cable.

But a free game is the definition of a deal.
