V8 Juice $3 (Was $4.60), 1/2 Price Four'n Twenty Meat Free Pie 4 Pack $4.75 (Was $9.50) @ Woolworths

230

Saw these in store. $3 is the price I go for the V8 low sodium bottles. As for the pies, I bought a pack to rotate through some meatless day lunches.

These are low sodium, but all the varieties are $3.

    1/2 price Four'n Twenty Meat Free Pie 4 pack $4.75 (Was 9.50)

They were 1/2 price a few weeks ago and it was the only frozen item in the sales sections that had not been hoarded.

Might grab a pack and some zero alcohol beer to wash it down with.

    • I had the opposite situation where the meat free ones were the only ones gone

don you mean mystery meat pie?

    • I remember an old school boy joke that Four and Twenty meat were just crushed Cockroaches and other bits and pieces all reconstituted.

  • How does it taste?

About 80% cheaper than at the footy but still tastes like I'm being ripped off

It's pretty bland without some sauce, but I imagine it might be the case with all variations - correct me if I'm wrong, I've never had the meat ones.

    • OK, but definitely not as good as meat pies. I felt oddly confused because it looked like a meat pie, but was just unsatisfying. I won't be getting them again.

    • +4

I don't mind them, and even more so knowing I'm not eating arseholes and veins and other body parts.

The 7-11 Meat Free pies are better. This is ok but needs a bit more sauce.

Meat free pies. Who’s running the marketing department at Patties Foods, idiots?

Brilliant people adjusting the strategy to demand.

  • "Low sodium" is pure saltphobia.

For a non-meat eater these are great if you take into account they're less than $1.20 a pie. If you're expecting something gourmet you shouldn't be look at four'n twenty. I have the odd one here and there with tomato sauce and sriracha, they're decent

If I am gonna have a dirty pie, I want it dirty…

It’s like, if I want KFC chicken, I want the chicken skin and fat…not just the meat (and in this case, meat-free pie).

I remember when the supermarket shelves were bare, but all the alternative meats were still there…pretty much says it all.

    • Reminds me of the South Park Episode where Cartman lies to his GF about "Vegan KFC" and convinces her to eat it.. lol

Actually I'm probably going to stick my head out here and tell everyone to try some "Meat Free" alternatives such as these pies. These days, they are getting pretty good at emulating the texture and taste. Even if you try it for a novelty, it's something that you can say you've tried as opposed to lots of negative comments from people who haven't even tasted it.

As I said though - I do like the 7-11 Meat-free pies better (they are saucier and taste closer to real meat). But no harm in trying these given they're a bit more than a dollar each. The meat-free mince in Supermarkets aren't bad either if you have it in pasta where I think a lot of people wouldn't be able to make out the differences when in a strong bolognese sauce with the regular Italian herbs.

Exactly man. But I don't think it's too big a stretch out, the mood is shifting a bit, whether for health, or environment, or fashion or the fact there's more options around, a meatless Monday etc is totally conceivable compared to even a few years ago. It's not about going full vegan or anything it's just better alternatives and lifestyle are changing. Like if you had cereal fore breakfast, then a cheese sandwich/Chico roll, or one of these pies that's basically a vegetarian day. Dinner's a bit trickier but like you say vege mince in a bolognaise or tacos, or san choi bao kit and there's no taste difference really.

Yes 100% this! We use this instead of real mince these days as it's just as good if not better than the real thing. It can be a bit trickier to cook as it doesn't break apart as easily and tends to clump up a bit when first cooking but the texture and taste is really good.

      • Have you tried the 7-11 Chicken-less sandwiches? OMG.. they are good and does a very good job at being mayo chicken.

  • The Garlos ones at Coles are better, but @ $4 each for a 1 pack.

Actually really enjoy these, being vego myself it was a nice change. The 7-11 meat free pies have more flavour but still good!

Those meat free pies are actually pretty good

  • Not on special - at least you know what it is made from in a vegetable pie https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/806578/sar…

"Meat free" is appealing to a new market segment.

Just like McD adds a "healthy" range, but BigMac still their top seller ranks 2nd, 1st is french fries. https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/the-top-10-best-selling-m…

  • "plant based filling" ….so its a vegetable pie but they want to still use the word meat on the packaging

  • Ingredients and macros on these look pretty good. Has mushroom and smoke flavor listed.

  • Great meat free pie for this price. Taste just like one of those cheap meat pies but without all the animal abuse.

  • Great pies, good they are coming down in price will grab a few packs thanks.

  • Pies not in special in Qld
