Nintendo Switch: Animal Crossing New Horizons Edition Console (Game Not Included) $469 (Pre Order 9th October) at EB Games

1291

Thought I'd flag that pre orders are now up. Yes, it is RRP, but I know people have gone bananas for this in the past.

I personally found Animal Crossing to be more boring than my own actual life in Melbourne this year, but know people have loved it!

Enjoy.

EDIT: Now up on Gamesmen and JB Hifi also.

    Here before the scalpers

that ship has sailed a long time ago.

    • hello

      • ahh

  • +16

I think the hype may have passed for this.

Keep in mind, you can get Animal Crossing-themed decals and covers on eBay, AliE, Amazon, etc, as well as a whole bunch of other stylings.

Better to express your personality through hundreds of options for a handful of dollars than paying this premium, especially if you've already got a Switch.

    • +14

I am with you, I reckon the hype is gone. The fact that no one had posted it. But who knows if the post helps just one person who didn't want to line the pockets of a scalper, great!

  • +3

I still have the Mario Odyssey bundle from few years ago so i don't need this…. i need this.

  • Also next gen switch is coming

    • +32

They've been saying this for 2 years at this point.

      • Rumors are they've selected a chip now. The Samsung Exynos chip that'll come out in the Galaxy S21 early next year.

Nintendo doesn't use modern tech tho, and the chip would be very pricey, so I wouldn't expect the next Switch, if it has this chip, to release anytime soon. Maybe 2021 or 2022

        • Aren't Exynos chips straight up bad now though… Especially in the graphics department atleast compared to snapdragon.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yes but's cheaper. Most companies all about finding the cheap stuff, creating something and selling for a profit to the unsuspecting.

      • +1

even if they do release it expect to be much higher price than this

    • +6

      rumours only

    • +3

Nintendo once said the 3DS wasn't the death of the DSI and they would coexist. Still waiting…

      • +12

They also said the DS wasn’t going to supersede to the GBA and the Switch wasn’t going to replace the Wii U. Which is why I come to the conclusion of that the Switch is the successor to the GBA

        • +1

Yeah I remember that, the DS was the “third pillar”

        • Well they haven't replaced or supersede. i own Wii, Wii U, Switch, DS Lite, 3DS XL, they have not been able to replace one or the other.

      • +2

I actually prefer my DSi XL over my New 3DS XL for older DS games as they look better for some reason on the DS than the 3DS.

    • +2

I just wish they fix the joy con drift issue!

      • +1

I had the same problem, so I sent my bad joycon to them and they fixed it free of charge. 2 week turnaround. Give it a try!

For what it's worth, I've had several PS4 controllers start drifting on me as well, usually at around the 18month mark.

        • Mine already way past warranty period. I don't play much, only started playing more late last year and then drift issue kicks in.

          • +1

@akte: Doesn't matter. Repair is under ACL as bad engineering.

If there are other issues they may choose to give you the finger or ask ~$30 to return it, it's a crap process.

Mine they said there was a different issue on one joycon. That was bullshit. But they replaced both anyway.

Also if yours is grey you can sell a replacement literally for $120 and go buy a new unit with warranty.

          • @akte: Mine was past warranty as well. They still fixed it. Was very happy about it, damn things are way overpriced.

I really like our switch but I don't like nintendo's practises. But it feels like if you wanna play, you gotta pay. Quite happy they fixed the joycon for nix!

            • @Sxio: True, I don't mind paying but just not when it is designed to flaw in couple play and the joy cons are not cheap. I got Wii remote and also PS4 controllers, they don't seems to break or have issues like the switch after years of playing.
May I know when did you buy your switch? Just wanted to know if slightly more than 2 years still covered under warranty?

              • @akte: It was a couple of years ago. I've had at least 3 DS4's start drifting as well, so it's not just nintendo.

                • @Sxio: Thanks! So just email them and mention that there's drift issue with joy cons? Anything else I need to mention?

                  • @akte: need to also provide proof of purchase. i got a day 1 switch and i got mine repaired around August. Process was super easy, tho i noticed my other joycon stick started drifting now.

                    • @PreSsieGuY: Thanks, I will try to fill that out tonight.

      • +1

My Switch has progressed from two sets of joycons with drift issues to the unit now just not co-operating with the left joycon in handheld mode. It thinks it's connecting and disconnecting constantly, making it completely unplayable in handheld mode.
Which is a bummer because it was used 95% handheld.

So yeah, joycon drift only would be great.

  • thanks got one!

    • -6

how much you going to resell it for? lol

      • As valuable as you are lol

  • +5

OP. Just gave you an up vote just for your thoughts on AC. Gold

  • +5

Upvote for our lives in Melbourne.

  • +2

Could they just not sell the controllers in that colour. Now that would be good just to get the different colourway if your interested in that.

  • -2

    Preordered two

  • I don't understand it not coming with the game.

I guess that's a lie, they know the demand is high so no game included won't hurt the sales.

    • Some people might already have the game. I would personally prefer not having the game included if it meant keeping the console price down and I can choose physical or digital copy.

Some collectors might just like the design and have no interest in the game.

  • wooo

  • +4

These are going as low as $520 on FB Marketplace.

    The hype is gone already.

    • Plus you have to wait a month.

    • Most still at $550 plus. There does seem to be a lot.

      • I saw one at $490.

The scalpers are panicking now as theres too many and people aren't paying the higher prices.

  • I love the design but my biggest gripe is not being able to transfer animal crossing save files to your new console.

The people that made AC has stated that in an interview that it should be available by end of this year, but until then it's just annoying.

    • That also shafts people who own both the regular switch and switch lite.

    • +2

      It's available since last update

  • I will pass it this time. One month wait is painful.

  • +8

Why sell a special edition console without the game? That's like selling a portable console without a charger cough 3DS cough.

    • yet people still buy without a charger or ozbargainer just grab a USB cable charging from existing phone chargers or laptop….

  • These are not limited edition consoles

Don't buy to flip they just keep running them soon it'll be $369

    • +2

Correct, they’re special edition, the enormous popularity resulted in several re-runs. I doubt they’ll become common and sell the same as standard colours but they’re definitely not worth much more than RRP

      • What if you hold it for 3-5 yrs? Would you be able to profit?

        • Given it's Nintendo then yes.

        • Yep hold it for 3 to 5 years and make a cool $40.

          • @fivespice: If you are a collector then it is worth it.

    • Its just the lockdown effect, the pokemon switch lite was everywhere for 6months, then magically vanished in 1 week.

      • -1

Sooo is it risky to buy one right now to resell in a few months time? or what possible ways can you profit from one of these

        • Lol if there was margins besides a Big Mac size one this would have gone in minuets .
Dead item now , US where they initially went is flooded nowadays too :)

  • Still in stock 45 minutes after posting waaaa?

  • Still in stock, until Christmas time.

  • Thank you for posting. Finally got one :)

  • +8

Resellers are not interested in this anymore since there is hardly any profits so that’s why it’s still in stock

  • +6

By the way, JB Hi-Fi is selling it as pre-order as well.
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/nintendo-switch-animal-cr…

  • So much for the Limited Edition .
Nintendo never seem to stop producing them :)

    • +2

i think it's just another special edition

    • special editions may not be limited

  • Got one but like everyone has been posting it has no value as limited edition because of the volume manufactured. You are probably better off buying a standard new switch and saving yourself $50 unless the different colouring scheme is worth the extra.

  • Finally got one after 6 months of try. Thanks.

  • So boring. The only thing more yawn inducing than AC is the amiibo for it.

  • +1

Just sell me the Joycons, I dont need 1000 consoles.

  • Is this worth upgrading from an original white box Switch?

    • +2

Just a slightly bigger battery. Better off waiting for the next gen switch in a few years.

      • Yeah but by then you'd be better off waiting for the next next gen switch in a few years.

        • +1

No, your switch is much more valuable since it has a hardware level exploit for homebrew.

          • @TeddyBear: Eventually even the latest hardware revisions would be exploitable too.

            • @RQNinja: I hope so, I scored a Switch Lite on release for $239. It's been waiting for an exploit ever since.

          • @TeddyBear: Sadly my Switch is actually a bit newer than the ones at launch, so it is patched. :(

  • Pre-ordered.
I have no idea why I want the dock and joy cons so much.
Didn't really want the Switch main unit 😆

  • +1

Go get it for captain tsubasa, totally great for the anime fans!

  • +1

This ‘special’ edition is no longer special.

  • Edit - dupe post.

  • If you are with Macquarie Bank, you can purchase EB Games eGift cards for 6% off.

End up paying just under $441

They also do JB but that's 3% off.

  • this is still in stock, those scalpers must be spewing now as I noticed they have started to drop the prices to the lower $500 range.

  • Thanks OP - wife purchased one and didn't use my EB membership :/
any idea if i can use my EB membership when picking up?

    • U can email them to add carrots after purchase

    • They should be able to amend the order in store.
you don't even need the card, email address is enough.

      • partner bought it using her email address lmao
Store said i can show card when picking up so it shouldn't be an issue.
