  • How would this go for Final Fantasy XIV (Japan servers) compared to Mudfish? Mudfish currently drops me from 180ms to about 110-120ms

    • Actually makes it worse for me, connecting to Japan.
160ms connected to Australia vs 280ms connected to Japan.

    • +1

Though it's not NordVPN, I use SurfShark to Tokyo and get about 120ms

  • Nice and reliable but doesn't seem to work with smart TVs or Chromecast even when set up at the router level with OpenVPN (eg Netflix gives proxy error). Have yet to find a VPN that has both good speeds and TV support :(

    • I had this issue when using smart dns through nord on tv. Would get vpn detection errors every day or two. Been using surfshark for few weeks haven't had any vpn detection errors through their smart dns. Some buffering every so often but doesn't last long.

      • Do you have trouble getting 1080 resolution? I've found Surfshark to be rather slow and struggles to stay above 720 most of the time. I wouldn't mind paying a premium to be able to watch 4k Netflix!

        • Probably 80-90% of time I can maintain 1080p quality, but I can almost guarantee 4k would be out of the question, but YMMV.

Visually speaking, 1080p is plenty for me anyway.

  • what happened to the 3 year plan…

  • So it’s $89USD for 2 years, then a cashback of $80.10USD?

In essence, $8.90USD for 24 mths subscription?

    • And the throttled speeds come for free!

      • Whoever negged me knows I'm right and they're upset they locked in long term with Nord. Not my fault you got dupped.

        • How are you 'locked in long term' though? You've already paid the $8.90. Assuming you got your $80 back.

          • @wildstone: I'm not talking about myself. Sure if you paid 8.90 it's nothing for a year or 2 years of a VPN. My point lies in the fact that VPN's you commit to for a year or more (especially Nord which I know from past experience and my own friends' experience) will eventually throttle speeds. Usually after the initial money-back period.

Too many drop outs when using Nord :( . Tried this other vpn called ProtonVPN and it was much more stable.

    • +1

I have had Nord for almost two years and have also experienced many drop outs. I'm sometimes told that I'm in a different country to the server that I selected too. I was considering Proton so thanks for the confirmation that they perform better. I've been enjoying their free encrypted email and looking forward to their encrypted client and calendar too.

  • Based in HK?

    • +1

      Proton's headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland

  • Signed up just now. Test some VPNs recently. I use it for streaming only and Nord is the best though you need to invest some time to find the proper servers/local partners.
Hope to receive my cashrewards confirmation earlier this time.

Edited: checked and confirmation received @2:06 pm…good…

  • Have been a happy NordVPN customer for a couple of years, but just recently HBO Max has started blocking me, both in the web browser and in the Android TV app. Tried TorGuard too but no luck.

  • Hi. May be a noob question. But can I use this vpn to watch some live streaming videos in another country? For example I would like to watch a live streaming soccer match in Vietnam but unable due to regional block, can i use this vpn to bypass the block?

  • How long does it normally take for the cashback to come?

And also whats the upfront AUD price we have to pay before the cashback occurs?

    • Before I cancelled mine, I paid with credit card which converted to $122.91 with $3.69 international fee. The cashback takes about 2-3 months, mine said $105.46 expected cashback. Give or take a dollar or two depending on what the conversion rate is now.

If you signed up for Nord for a year or longer, make sure to set a reminder to cancel (if you want to cancel) their service 14 days before your year or two years are finished with them.

They have fine print that renews the service if you don't cancel before those 14 days.

It's just a heads up as the price you pay now might not be the price you'll pay later.

    • You can disable auto renewal on your profile

  • Missed the expiry date on this… nuts
