Spotify Premium Gift Card - can these be used to pay for family accounts?

    • +1

No, can only redeem for standard membership.

      From Spotify Gift Card Page:

You can’t use them for Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers.

      • +7

        hate that they do this.

      • I just bought a Spotify voucher and what I did was downgrade to a normal Premium plan, apply the voucher code then upgrade to the Premium Family again and the credit is still applied to my family plan.

        • What… A… Genius…

So do we just so this every time and hope they don't catch on?

  • Finally!!!!!

    • Finally? When was the last time?

      • Almost a year ago. I am desperately low on credits.

        • +1

Probably cause of covid they stopped having these promos

          • @PeeDee: and yet almost every month we get to hear about Itunes 15% off, be it from ColesWorths or Costco.

  • Can you use the Google Play gift card to buy hardware? Like Google home? Pixel phone?

Edit: nvm, checked t&c's, devices are ineligible

    • No, you can't. I just tested it out and no option to use google play gift cards.

      • So it is for app?

        • +3

For apps and subscriptions. I use these cards to pay for my youtube and google drive subscriptions

          • @melfn: And for music, movies and books

          • @melfn: If i load it in Google Play, subscription money will be deducted from Play Card Balance rather than debit card ?

            • +1

@ChipsChicky: Yes, correct. Although you need to make sure that with your subscription you make Google Play balance as your primary payment method if not it will charge your debit card.

To do this you need to Subscriptions -> Manage Subscriptions -> Primary payment method

@melfn: Ahan … thanks man … will be buying my first Play Card today 🤭

  • unlike apple cards you cannot pay your taxes with google play cards.

note i think $50 google cards gave 2000 points worth $10 last week which is roughly 20% off.
better deal if u can wait for next drop.

    • Sorry wondering which points system is that may I ask?

      • reddit karma points, why do you think people are trying so hard over there?

        Woolies rewards btw :)

        • Are you sure it was Woolies and not Coles that were giving 2000 points for a $50 Google gift card earlier in the month?

    • unlike apple cards you cannot pay your taxes with google play cards.

Doesn't stop them from still putting the warning on the cards

Will it be it possible to buy them with a wish e-gift card?

    • +1

I don’t think so, particularly if using the new POS systems. I have found you get an error these days, but if someone knows how to use them that would be great.

      • How funny is that? I could use Coles Gift Card to buy GooglePlay card but not Woolies Gift Card?

        Unless it has changed.

  • Can I use this to pay for my Indian YouTube family Premium subscription?

  • Thanks OP, good timing! I'm in need of a Spotify card to top up the account. I think I'll test out the 'Reminder' option that OB has now.

  • Thanks for the reminder note very helpful thanks mate

Can someone please help me understand how this works for someone who already has a premium account? If I purchase 6 months worth of cards and add them to my account, it will essentially draw on that credit instead of the monthly charge to my normal payment method?

    • +1

I have Youtube premium and it takes from Google Play credit instead of the normal payment option.
My last Youtube payment on debit card was last year when the Google Play credit ran out and needed topping up again.

      • As a YouTube Premium user, what do you think of Google Play Music being replaced by YouTube Music? I'm disappointed but hope Google will improve YouTube Music.

    • I have Spotify Premium and I'm pretty sure that's how it worked for me too last time I put in some gift cards.

  • Good PS.
    I always forget the PS

  • Last year, Woolworths and Coles had sales of effectively 20% off by giving 2000 points on their rewards programs with the purchase of a $50 gift card. Wondering If I should hold out for that or just go the 10% discount for now? I've still got about 6 months credit left.

I'll stay with YouTube Premium for now because I'm still on the original $9.99 plan. Although the value of YouTube Premium has reduced with Google Play Music being replaced with YouTube Music.

  • I'm surprised that they were advertised like this 2 weeks before going on sale. It's hard to read that fine print. I'd have assumed they were 10% off there and then!

    • It's hard to read that fine print. I'd have assumed they were 10% off there and then!

I think that's the point, to try and trick you into paying more …

      • Sneaky buggers!

  • I went to Woolworths near my area, can't find any.
Then went to Officeworks for price match instead ;)
