    https://www.kotaku.com.au/2020/09/rtx-3080-review-nvidia/

Now I understand the message Jensen ment: " it's safe to upgrade my friends, from 1080ti and below" the 2080 series market isn't what Nvidia needs, it's those below that tier who haven't upgraded, and the value to upgrade from a 2080 super or ti, is someone's lucky bargain.

Maybe the 3080 isn't really worth it after all, the 2080ti is, at first I thought the 3080 was faster then the 2080ti and super, it is based on cost to performance, but overall the stress and hassle to buy a 3080 to simply just game in 4k…

Dam I'll buy a 2080ti happily, given Nvidia's is insidiously concocting a vicious plan to sell the 3060, the 3070, and the 3080ti around march or may next year, It's obvious given Nvidia's filthy tactics…

I'd definitely hold on to the 2080ti it's a powerhouse at 1080p, at 1440p, and slowly less at 4k, but neither 3080 nor 2080ti can seriously run Microsoft flight simulator.

    https://youtu.be/lCPi4-BP6sU (digital foundry review)

However the 3080 has 8500 cuda cores, while useless and shit to most gamers, but to other who sli'd two for other reasons, the 3080 is definitely worth it In that category (sadly the etherium community will increase the cost of the 3080, and more will end up buying second hand 2080ti something that may hurt Nvidia who knows it's all opinion based.)

    • Tesla sold the roadster, then the S and X before moving to Model 3. Is that "filthy tactics"?

They are making the chips and binning them most likely. The ones with faulty cores might have the cores turned off and sold as the lower versions. That's what Intel did. Not sure if holds true for GPUs as well.

Also, more profit and lower volume from higher end of the market, good way to build up some cash before capacity catches up and if any issues, they don't need to recall a heap of cards, only a few.

      • -2

Well elon musks a smart man, and comparing he's company to Nvidia is laughable.

But when the model version 2021, or 2022, 2027, what's to stop consumers buying the out of season model, it does the same thing, just slightly different iteration.( In-regards to intel, even up til this day they will never offer cores consumers want, it's amd that really gave the consumer the option, amd will do the same on vram, cant say it'll be cheap like the threadripper, but amd has given it to the consumer.)

Same could be said for the 2080ti, when people Panic, it's usually other peoples win, and when it comes to stock the banks are way way ahead on what's about to crash.

Let's wait and see how much the 2080ti drops in coming weeks on eBay, pascal customers can buy the cheaper slightly less powerful version, something Jensen probably doesn't want.

    • -3

What stress and hassle? Don't want to deal with that then wait 4 weeks. 4k monitors have been out for ages so gaming at 4k at good frames is a big thing for many people. RTX performance was hardly great in the 20 series especially at the price point. The 3080 and at its price point represents a great leap forward no matter how you look at it.

      • If you say so, as Jensen puts it:
        https://youtu.be/5xAaQzaMsug

Using the 3080 in blender is an entirely different ball game with those cuda cores 3d modelling is going to change their world with a 3080, even this guy suggests 10gig of vram isn't enough:

        https://youtu.be/EvU_thLGEoM

        • -2

I think whoever is interested in these cards on release is well aware of the hype. 2 times performance no way but it's still a big performance jump for the price.

Also I believe the ram usage is a matter of allocation vs utilization. Is 10gb enough? I havent done the research yet but I dont think this moore's law guy has either.

The other things developers will generally target their games to run on current on near future hardware. Afterall the more players that can actually run the games the more people will buy them. If 10gb wasn't enough for 4k it would definitely be seen even in mainstream reviews. I dont think this moore's law guy has stumbled on an great revelation, in fact i'd bet the majority of 4k games will run fine on 10gb even with RTX.

        • Damn, I was hoping that link was a, "will it blend?" Video

  • lol, raffle? the seller needs the buyer, not the other way around

    • +5

      Not when demand outstrips supply…

Just look at all the guys lining up outside the sneaker stores.

Either way, this might be good to stop people buying it and then flipping it for profit

  • +1

Nvidia drivers install only, for me, stick the game if I have to install bloat ware!

    • +5

Once you claim it through Geforce Experience and it's linked your Uplay account, you can uninstall Geforce Experience since it's not required to launch the game.

  • +1

When are the AIB cards being released here in Australia is it tonight at 11pm or sometime tomorrow ?

    • 11PM tonight

      • Yeah… a detail that appears lacking on a lot of sites.

Scorptec and MWave don't have anything that sticks out regarding the 11pm availability, guessing its only the ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte models for AIB's, along with the Nvidia FE in tomorrow's raffle.

Put my details in for one anyway. I'm hoping for a 20GB model whenever they're released.. it'll just be a bonus if I score even just one of these on launch ('cause the campaign info has been so scant)

        • +3

Scorptec announced it to be at 11PM on their Facebook page
          https://www.facebook.com/scorptec/posts/4445287488876662

Mwave not too sure, but I believe we're just following suit of when they're available in the US, which is 6AM PT Time AKA… 11PM AEST

          • @SirNoble: Cool, thanks for the heads up. I don't use FB, so missed the notice.

Wish they'd have done a tiered approach for the higher VRAM models so people who want those could wait 'til the next round. lol

            • @Revrnd: I saw an article today saying Asus will not launch Strix 3080 for a few days. Not sure why. Hoping there's actually AIB stock available

              • @TheLurker: Really hoping there is. Definitely not a clean launch. I'd have thought they had Ampere ready for months, but clearly not.

  • -7

When do the raffle winners get announced?

  • Scorptec's website has already half crashed, I'm personally not going for anything, just want to see how quick they go haha

  • Prices are popping up on MWave's site, cheapest 3080 I found was $1379 (cheapo model). Gonna suss out BHPhotovideo!

  • No luck ):

    • Sites must be getting swamped 'cause I'm just getting loading (or the mr scorpman error)

  • +2

Mwave, scorptec, umart and BHP are all having massive loading issues.

    • PCCG, SE too. All the big stores down.

    • Yep. getting exactly the same thing. probably getting smashed by thousands of people.. or masses of people + tonnes of bots.

      • I'm just glad I actually remembered to and was able to register at Scorptex and MWave at about 10.45pm

  • Haha, had a few sites I was refreshing in both in AU and US and all have gone down.

    • It's a shame Amazon isn't listing anything.

      • Yeah I was secretly hoping something would pop up but alas…maybe I'll be the one in a million and get a founders from Mwave

      • yeah, only website that works…

  • +2

    Wow, all sites down.

    • lol, came here to say this.. even newegg

  • +1

Yup!! Most of the top tier AU pc online store websites aren’t able to be loaded at all!! Seriously are these 3080 such big hype this time?

    • +1

Most are all poorly optimised and not designed for this type of traffic at all, from my knowledge with one of the major stores and their backend. Honestly, this type of thing is not common and something they wouldn't bother trying to fix or help manage.

      • Yeah, it definitely wasn't like this for the previous series. I wouldn't say it would be worth it anyway.

    • +1

Lots of scalpers - listings on ebay available… for $1700 lol

      • Saw them flash up for a brief moment, at $1399 or something for the AIB's, but very little in the way of range.

Only ASUS one I saw was a TUF, not the Strix or anything.

  • +8

Right, off to bed with the lot of you

    • +2

shut up, you're not even my real dad!!!

  • +2

    Mwave

ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 TUF Gaming 10GB Video Card - $1,399.00
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 EAGLE OC 10GB Video Card - $1,399.00
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING OC 10GB Video Card - $1,459.00

Scorptec pricing seems to be the same or very similar

    • Noticed Scorptec only just came back up and all sold out. lol. At least they have EVGA on their site.

    • $300 more than the founders edition and what are you getting for it, that is if you can even get it at all?

  • Scorptec looks cleared

  • Man just trying to get through checkout…

  • ASUS TUF 3080 sold USD799 =>1206 AUD (inc GST), however RRP in au I see is $1399, what a rip off, worth than FE!

    EVGA is $1229 btw

    • +1

And Centrecom flogging off the ASUS TUF 3080 for $1650.

      • And they sold out in 30 seconds, major rip off. Australia gets screwed over on price once again…

  • +2

    (profanity) YOU NVIDIA

  • +3

Anyone else momentarily gotten excited when a page actually loads and you see card for $1200, but its a 2080…

  • from computer alliance

"RTX30xx GPU are in severe shortage
Placing an order does not guarantee an allocation from the initial shipments into Aust. You will be contacted when a GPU has been allocated to your order"

    lol

    • And they're price gouging HARD - 40% markup above RRP for most "remaining" cards.

      • Yeah they are. To think they get their rep to come to Ozb to try promote themselves. And the second they get the chance to gouge they do it in the most blatant way possible lmao

        • +2

I've got a big fat neg ready their rep if they dare to show their face here again lol

  • +1

    Gaming X Trio $1499 https://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/?cn=114&kw=3080&rf=kwcn
Even the Ventus is $1399 lol

And some dude here was expecting $1k 3080s 🤣

  • +1

Guess what, let's be happy with a RX580 8G and say f&% to Nvidia and wait for Big Navi bois

    • +2

I'm Mr.. uh, Snrub (yes, that'll do) and I agree with this fine man that you should all just turn our computers off and forget about this 3080 nonsense! I'll stay up to keep an eye on things, no need to worry.

  • Mwave, Scorptec and PLE are all still down. Can't see prices, but I'm expecting it to be a fair way over the US RRP (as the exchange rate dictates etc). Will wait to see real-world difference between 2080 super to 3080…not sure if i'll upgrade if it's only a 20 or 30% real world increase. Hopefully it's a big boost though

    • Cheapest 3080 on Scorptec is about $1379

    • +1

      Centrecom = $1,550 for AIB 3080

      Budget PC = $1,600 for AIB 3080

Cheapest ironically was PCCG, maybe $1299

Eh, I'm out. I'll check again in 6 months.

    • Caught a glimpse of the prices, half of the cards are gone. If you want the high end ones expect to pay 1.469

      • Oh wowee, I'll have to wait to see if the upgrade is worth it then. PLE claims they have plenty of stock, but the website is shot.

$1400 is getting up there though

        • +1

yeah I'm just on youtube watching the AIB reviews hahaha

          • @Ghosteye: lol. it's about the only thing we can do at the moment..

That and watch ebay for the scalpers. hahaha

    • Will wait to see real-world difference between 2080 super to 3080

What?? Read a review, there's plenty. It's 65-100% vs the 2080, averaging out to around 74%, so about 60-70% for the Super.

      Here's a metareview.

      • Depends on some factors, but it seems the difference in 1440p is very underwhelming. 4k was better nVidia def cherry picked results, don't expect anything near their presentation real world.

        • -1

You're looking at engine and CPU bottlenecks, a lot of which will be freed up over time through features of both Turing and Ampere.

These are powerful cards, and these problems start to appear when you're pushing 120-250 FPS in games.

  • +1

    From Computer Alliance

"As not all of the items you are ordering are in stock, your order may take 3-14+ days to be ready. If this is not acceptable, please consider changing your ordered items."

3-14+ days… might as well say "between 3 days and forever".

  • Lol dudes, you're all killing the PC seller sites, all are giving errors XD

Now the raffle makes more sense, who the (profanity) was gonna get one? The ones who stayed up late the most until 3am for everyone else to give up.

  • +1

If anyone is prepared to pay it, $1600 for Gigabyte Eagle or $1700 for Asus TUF.

    https://www.computeralliance.com.au/video-cards/!nvidia-seri…

I'm tapping out guys, take my chances in the raffle. Haven't felt like this since trying to buy Splendor in the Grass tickets that first time it was at Woodford…

    • Nah f*** CA they are gouging

      • that was my thought, although tbh, i was kinda scared that was just "the price". Someone bought em all anyway.

  • PLE just said in stream they'll be getting 3080 stock every week, so I guess that's something.

    • Guess they're well aware their site is getting absolutely smashed then. lol.

  • +7

Just purchased an eVGA GeForce RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB GDDR6X for $1259!! So happy with it, don't mind paying another $100 over a FE for this amazing card

    • which store?

        • nice one

        • +1

Damn dude cheers for that! Out of all the other tabs I was mercilessly F5ing, this store actually worked and I've already got the order confirmation/receipt.
          Bloody legend :D

          • @Stoibs: i was F5ing exactly the way you did but didnt come close of seeing what was available until all of them were sold out.

            • @jOlv: Yeah it's a mess right now, basically a gamble of 'who is lucky with the best internet connection at any given time' =(

    • wow nice work can you dm me link please?

    • Was that from Ple?

    • Not bad. It's a disgusting looking card but congrats on getting your hands on one

      • +1

next to the FE, they pretty much all look like hot garbage.

        • The strix and msi trio I like the look of. I don't really like the look of the founders edition 3080 and 3090 but the 3070 looks pretty good. It's a shame the founders edition cards dont have RGB, but at least they got rid of the shitty green lighting (at least I think they did)

        • I also have no idea what compelled them to add those hideous red accents. I guess for the most part they're not visible, but why not just keep everything black

    • It pleases me greatly that there are going to be options that are similar in price to FE.
