Mod 13/9 (copy paste of the report reply): For those reporting that RRP should be in the forum or similar, there is no such guideline. As always the community will decide if it's a good deal or not via the voting system and/or comments. In general, a deal can be good value or of interest without being discounted as such, whilst a deal can be discounted but still be of little interest or poor value. In any case it's up to members to decide. In relation to potential issues about the deal details, should the deal not go ahead as posted, or another issue that breaches guidelines, it will be removed at that time. Please use TWAM for other issues and keep comments respectful. Thanks

Mod 2 15/9: Mwave has now announced there will be a raffle to purchase (that's a new one). The main deal link has been updated and the deal post moved to forums. Please join the raffle should you be interested in purchasing and continue discussion in the comments below.

Ditto. Shame they didn't do that for the whole first batch (and 1 per customer with a duplicate address search).

    Anyone got any email?

    •

      Nope, nothing : (

    •

Not yet. Hopefully they send an email telling you either way.

      • +1 vote

You only get an email if you've won

    •

Nothing here. Not expecting anything as they're probably only got like 10 cards and 10,000+ people lined up.

      RAFFLE UPDATE:

We're 90% done. Getting rid of a few more sneaky cheaters and we'll update when the emails are sent out

      Update from mWave

      • +1 vote

At the end of it, Iโ€™d love to hear about some of the sneaky things people tried to do. ๐Ÿ˜†

        •

probably multiple emails, different occupants, slightly different ways of writing addresses, or same / slight variations on name using multiple addresses.

at least people can't bot buy their way outta it.

        •

probably some checks on duplicate address, number etc. to clean out the easy ones to flag

          •

            @gmail92: or po boxes?

          •

@gmail92: I figured they would do more advanced stuff like IPs.

            •

@cnut: That's too bad to those people who live in shared housing units…

              • +1 vote

@Could Be Better: Yeah that really sucks.

Noticed your comment got removed but I agree. Nvidia should have allocated proper stock in Australia. I get thereโ€™s a shortage globally, but this was a bit lame.

                •

@cnut: its a world wide thing. I heard some stores in NYC had 12 cards. One of those sobstory click bait articles in my google feed. Things are tough all over.

      •

RAFFLE WINNERS ARE NOW BEING NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL

Make sure you check your SPAM/JUNK folders. If you don't receive anything from us tonight, unfortunately, you haven't been picked. Thanks for entering.

  •

    The winner is………… SYDNEY!!!

    • +1 vote

oh no, does that mean everyones cards are gonna cost 90% more than they were advertised at?

  •

ZZZ still waiting if the email is sent out or not. Would be good to have a landing page to say Winners notified etc.

  • +1 vote

Had to unsubscribe 11 emails gone to mwave, dam don't want their products. anyways this made me laugh.

    https://youtu.be/tc8mcg1KCUo

Scalpers in Canada, America everywhere have made the term 3080 look funny, forget regional pricing.

Patience is a vertue people… If you want ray traced lighting look up into the sun.

    •

Yeah, there was a bot that guys were using to push through sales stupidly quick, one guy posted on twitter that he got like 42 of the FE's.

      •

Ahh, yeah I could imagine that, they probably wrote a JavaScript handle, when the timer counts down the macro clicks the link, maybe generating random name place holder.

But mwave have a spam notification box, bot no visual spam box, so mwave are partly to blame because bots can 1 trillion percent get around that, but not visual.

  • +7 votes

Nvidia should've delayed releasing the 3080s until there was sufficient stock for most people. They hyped up the release, and when it actually got released no-one could get their hands on one. Pretty disappointing, as all this does is breed scalpers and makes some retailers jack up the prices. After all, it's not until October 28 that AMD's new GPUs get announced - I get trying to release a product early before the competition - but there was still plenty of time to boost the stock levels. Don't know why they launched prematurely.

    • +1 vote

I wonder with Sony's two month delayed price announcement will meet the wraith of Nvidias preorder event.

Because noone can even preorder a ps5.

      • +1 vote

This launch was much worse than PS5

        • +1 vote

oh absolutely. I got my PS5 from Target on day one. Dunno what everone else was complaining about.

          •

@jonathonsunshine: I ordered from Sony like 2 hrs after announcement for 1st shipment and this was gone in 1 minute

    • +12 votes

no one ever means to launch prematurely.. it just sort of happens..

      •

People who negged this comment should speak with their GP about treatment options.

        •

          should've attached a trigger warning

    •

what would be the difference? Why are people rioting just because they cant buy something?

  • +1 vote

I bet mwave have 20 stocked in the back ready for eBay price hike, make A few grand scalping…

That's $2000 a GPU, and $3500 for the 3090 (look what happened to the face masks, and toilet paper ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜น) they'll probably make roughly $20.000 bucks pocket money by christmas.

Not bad (on mwaves side, while sad, atleast we all suffer together) buy and demand, because of that i might start getting into whole sale and sell ice crystals.

Here's the Nvidia 3080 graphics card on sale now:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3080-10GB-GDD...

    Warranty = no returns

        •

Mwave owner I bet. If they can make 500+ per card why wouldn't they.

      • +1 vote

Checked their feedback history. Looks like they were also selling new Oculus Rifts and Nintendo Switches back in covid first lockdown (when prices for these were WAY inflated due to shortage). Seems to be a store employee scalping lol

  •

Didnโ€™t get one neither from this raffle or last night. When will next batch arrive?

    •

      Raffle hasn't been drawn yet.

    • +1 vote

They haven't done them all yet

  •

    I'm hopeful.

There's likely a pretty large number to go around and MWave are importing (so we don't get the cards until the 12/10)

    Fingers crossed

  •

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/galax-geforce-rtx-3080-sg-1...

This cards not to bad, it's $50 more then the founders edition people.

    Fk the raffle.

    •

      No stock though:

"We're taking pre-orders so you can be placed in a queue and secure your card as more stock arrives in the coming weeks. You're more than welcome to cancel your pre-order at any time."

You don't work for mwave right? ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ค

        • +1 vote

No, but info is on their twitter feed:

For the rest of the RTX 3080 Cards:
Launch allocation & first restock is sold out.
PRE-ORDERS live now are for restocks as they come in. (Roughly 4 weeks+)

          •

@xuqi: Oh ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜น maybe mwave don't even know box bargains.

  • +1 vote

Have they drawn the raffle. They did say they'll ann at 3 pm… its 4:30..

    •

Not yet, theyโ€™ll post an update when they have. Keep an eye on their Twitter.

      •

How hard is it to draw a raffle. Are they.. like writing down everything on a piece of paper and drawing them LOL!

        •

It takes time to weed out all the cheaters. Thatโ€™s probably largely done manually.

          • +1 vote

@cnut: Yeah, a script would be possible but this whole thing has been a bit of a mess and last minute thing.

  •

What would be very interesting is if MWave just published the % of reclaimed units.

So if they had 1000 to sell and found 200 of them had been allocated to the same address twice then that would be a 20% reclaim value.

    • +2 votes

Also eliminate people who already ordered an AIB?

      • -1 vote

That would be fair but who knows if they'll do that.

    • +3 votes

I am pretty sure it is a fake raffle. All cards have been allocated internally within Mwave.

      • +2 votes

Would be nice to know how many cards have been allocated.

        • +2 votes

0 transparency just… seels like to me that they wanted more people on the mailing list.

          • +1 vote

@sunnyii: I hope no one buys and he gets delisted. It's clear price gouging.

          •

@sunnyii: So here's a question. For those that have more than one card is it any better if they put it on eBay as an auction (starting at RRP) than if they just said $2750.

            •

@pgdownload: Well…I am sure there are some rich kid that will pay 2750

We all should go and offer RRP prices

  • +1 vote

"99.8% done. We're running some final checks on the list to make sure.

Lots of fakes, scammers, duplicates etc. deleted."

    • +3 votes

Can we interpolate from that that at a minimum you must have 500 cards to send out? 0.2% could only represent 1 full card at the minimum so 1% is 5 cards? :o)

      •

That is a goot point :)

      • +3 votes

Think of it as the Windows copy progress dialogue box. It's just more a general indication that we're close. Not actually 99.8% done.

      • +7 votes

I am 99.8% sure they just picked that number at random to represent a number that is almost 100%.

      •

Interpolate is the wrong word, but yes - unless the commenters above are correct.

  •

Time to check your e-mails boys and girls: "RAFFLE WINNERS ARE NOW BEING NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL"

    • +2 votes

      No email :(
Then again, look on the bright side, you saved $1100 (unless you are a scalper).

      •
      •

True, I saved $3K because was planning to build a new rig.

  • +5 votes

I probably had more chance of winning the powerball last night than being given the privilege to spend money on a new graphics card!!!

    • +3 votes

Never have I ever heard of a huge group of people being so excited to 'win' the opportunity to pay RRP for something. This GPU hype has driven us Ozbargainers all crazy

      •

Lol, everyone is definitely a little crazy. I put my name into the raffle even though I don't think I could even put the card into my system if I won (550w PSU…)

      •

It is rare that such a generational performance improvement hasn't come with a huge premium. A lot of people were shocked at not just performance but the price (excluding the scumbag companies that price gouge, may they forever rott in hell).

      •

RRP but it is cheaper that most AIB boards. I would say that it is still a deal

        • +1 vote

"Shhh… don't talk about the war!"

      •

        scalpers :-p

    •

Feel like Powerball was a better chance still. Even though I didn't buy a Powerball ticket and I had to sign up to spam for this.

  •

Looks like it's 3080 in 2021 given where I am in that PLE queue

    •

lol, i preordered at 2pm and they estimated 6 weeks :/

    •

No preorders anywhere world wide apparently. If money no object you could have got one from ComputerAlliance last night..
