  I would have bought the X570-I, but it lacked a front USB-C front panel connector that the Asus ROG Strix B550-I offers.

    Beside USB-C front panel connector, it seems to me the main reason for going with X570-I is when you are intending to seriously OC with high end Ryzen CPUs where the superior VRM comes into play. And as someone said, the VRM fan can be annoying to some. When I get into my next build with a Ryzen 7 3800X CPU, I think the B550-I MB will be a good enough pairing.

    Yes likely will work but I suspect unlikely to be optimized to take full advantage. I'm hanging on for awhile yet. Fair bit changing at the moment.

        The X670 chipset shouldn't be too far away according to the rumour mill. Still deciding Intel v AMD CPU as well.

  On paper, this is the best ITX sized AM4 motherboard around. If you get one without any issues, it's pretty awesome.

  BUT this model has had a few QC issues - a complete lack of thermal compound between the chipset and its heatsink and exceedingly loud VRM heatsink fans are the ones I've heard the most. ASUS also removed some BIOS functionality from this motherboard, despite being on the top-tier x570 chipset - notably, they had to patch in the ability to manual adjust the PCIe generation, something super important if you are building with a riser cable right now as very few of those actually work on PCIe gen 4. What's upsetting about that feature being left out is that ASUS' ATX boards got the feature - meaning they purposely decided to skip it for this board. They did eventually add the feature back, but this was a big deal in the small form factor community and a blow to anyone that bought this board when it was new with the intention of using it with a riser + a shiny new 5700/5700xt.

  On principle, I wouldn't give ASUS my money right now. This motherboard had big issues. Their 5700 GPUs were terrible with heatsinks slowly pulling away from the PCB due to gravity. Their AMD based laptops are ovens. And as a whole, the company can't take any criticism even from some of the best techtubers around, namely Hardware Unboxed.

  BUT, again, this IS the top of the line for AM4 ITX motherboards, and this is a decent price for it. I just hope that it doesn't become a headache for you!

  If you want my advice - if your case has the newer type C header for the front panel, get either the MSI Gaming Edge or Asrock Phantom Gaming b550 itx boards. If your case has the older type A header, get the Gigabyte Aorus Pro b550 itx board.

    I’m an x470-I user. My biggest pain point is that the nvme on my board when used splits the 16x lane down to 8x for the video card, and 8x for the m.2 slot (back one, not front). I was planning on upgrading to this board as I’ve enjoyed the strix line so far. No issues with it. I’ll take anything that can handle 2x nvme drives and a 3080 without bottleneck.

    X570 uses a Gen4 chipset link, while B550 uses Gen3. That's because X570 has PCIe Gen4 lanes off of the chipset that are separate from the CPU's lanes, something B550 has 0 of. These are referred to as “general purpose” lanes and can be reconfigured into almost anything.

    Read a lot about the thermal issues it could have. Not sure what to do. Pcie4 and 2 m.2 slots are a must as to avoid any lane splitting/bottlenecks.

      I'm unsure if you are insinuating that the b550 itx boards split lanes. In case if you are… they don't split lanes with the GPU even if you have both populated.

      The b550 itx boards have a pcie 4.0 m.2 + a pcie 3.0 m.2 You can populate both m.2 slots and the GPU will still have 16x PCIe 4.0 lanes. The only issue you'll have is if you are running two pcie 4.0 SSDs - one of them will run at pcie 3.0 speeds.

        Nah not insinuating, just stating my current position. I’m leaning towards a YOLO and going the x570 strix unit, but also wondering if we will see anything new around the corner with the impending 4000 series.

  I have this board and would NOT recommend it solely based on the rubbish Armory crate software that "manages" the RGB. There is no way to deactivate the LED on the board as the software seems to randomly overwrite the bios and it's a toss of the coin is you have the mobo RBG lighting up your room when you shutdown the system.

      Nope, I think if you can avoid the Armoury software, the board performs quite well. No issues with noise thermals, stability or power.

  I've got one of these, cant comment on QC issues, it seems fine.
  but that VRM fan will get on ur nerves, it's not super loud but it is very high pitched and annoying, like a next door neighbor using a vacuum cleaner
  especially if u use open back headphones

      I wouldnt exactly say gaming is "heavy load"
      but it's not noticeable in normal browsing and watching youtube and stuff
      i've got an air-cooled set-up and whenever I set my cpu cooler to "silent", that's when it speeds up to compensate and becomes a little annoying

        i ended up settling on the b450 but constantly eye off the x570 and b500 itx boards.
