My last Manna Beans order is almost done, might need to jump on in this next week. But I have a question, looking at the description there’s the following type of details:

    Varietal: Catuai
    Processing: Washed
    Altitude: 1,800 masl
    Cupping Score: 84

I was wondering if you could explain what the processing means (and what other processes there are), what the altitude means for the coffee taste and how the cupping score is found. I assume some judges stood around one day and tasted this and rated it 84 out of 100? Maybe you have an FAQ on your website I just haven’t read yet…

All this stuff sounds good but I’ve never understood it. The description of the taste is good.

Which one is better, this or Inglewood?

    • +1

      This

    • +2

Inglewood was substantially better IMO with smooth and subtle flavours.

Inglewood tasted like a premium product. Manna varieties tasted more or less like Aldi coffee to me. The coffee didn't really have the characteristics that they described.

BTW - I drink black, unsweetened coffee for reference.

      • I gave AIRJO a try after finishing my last Manna order. That (AIRJO) coffee is so much better than this for sure.

        • +1 for AIRJO. Sorry to their rivals, but I've become a massive fan. Drinking their Enterprise Blend at the moment.

    • +1

I don't think I have had Inglewood before, but I can say my last order from Manna Beans was fantastic. Best beans I have tried.

      • Thanks for your kind feedback and glad to hear that you are enjoying our coffees :)

    • Have bought from Inglewood 3 times, decided to try Manna. Didn't find it to too much to my liking compared to Inglewood. Didn't find the flavours were strong enough. I have my coffee with milk.
I'm waiting for the Inglewood 50% tomorrow to buy more.

Aldi Medium roast FTW! $12 per kg.

    • +1

They're not fresh. Still tastes like bland coffee.

    • +1

Aldi Medium roast cupping score - 53, Commercial grade. almost half the quality of Manna Beans.

      • +1

For for a 50% improvement in cupping score, you have to pay 400% more?

Have you seen the Office episode on the Magik beans? ;)

        • +1

84 = delicious cafe quality coffee
53 = below average, pretty well in the same quality range as instant coffee.

If cost is all you care about, you should be buying a 5KG tin of international roast for $12

          • @JakeyJooJoo: Exactly. Everyone has a cost:quality ratio that they are comfortable in. That's why all these various coffee options have a market. These beans are certainly not the highest quality or most expensive, but much better than supermarket quality.
Just take a look at Geisha coffee, that's probably the highest cost:highest quality coffee.

          • @JakeyJooJoo: I will try and see. Have you ever done a blind testing (your self) to see whether you can taste the difference? I bet you can't identify among several types of coffee with different ratings made by same barrista.

          • @JakeyJooJoo: I care about the cost hence the reason to be on this site. I certainly don't care about some subjective number. All I care is that I can tell the difference. If not, I am back to $12 per kg at Aldi.

I trusted my boyfriend to buy this for me last deal and he got it delivered to his parent's house. $60 gone just like that and won't even get to try this :(

Very sad. But glad this is back! Will try again lol

Happy parents unhappy girlfriend that's a tough one ;)

  • I don't get why prices in Oz have gone up 4-5 % when the Coffee market glut has caused prices to reach 22 year lows in the market place .

    • +4

Certainly doesn't seem like a huge drop recently..

Either way, manna have priced ~2kgs of coffee at $59.95 for >5 years. Which is pretty impressive, considering all the other operating costs (electricity, rent, wages, shipping) would have all gone up over that time.

Hi Nigel, hope you and the family are well! πŸ˜ƒ
We haven't seen any price reductions in our green coffee beans, only increase in shipping etc But then again, we work more directly with some farmers and are happy to pay more to ensure that they also can survive in these difficult times! :)

  • +1

Can vouch for Manna Beans, yummy coffee and delivery was VERY FAST for me. Will order again when my stock finished.

    • Thanks OZGE, Great to hear! πŸ’—πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’œ

    • Ditto - coffee is excellent and delivery (to Tassie even!) is super quick.

  • Are there any Aeropress Go in stock?

    • Sorry, only the standard Aeropress in stock, no Aeropress Go's :)

  • Magical Unicorn is probably my favourite coffee bean - ever! Despite sounding like its something you smoke :)
    Nice one guys

    • Lol, I wouldn't recommend smoking it, the beans get very hot! πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the feedback though, great to hear that you are enjoying it! πŸ‘πŸ‘

  • How long would these beans last do you think? And how do you recommend storing them?

    • +1

Coffee is freshest for the first month or so after roasting and is best stored in the valved bags that it comes in and in a cool dark place :)
If storing longer term then some people like to freeze the beans.

I find that they perform great for around 5 weeks and then the the more unique flavours found in fresh roasted coffee will drop off more rapidly. Although they can still be drunk for about a year after roasting, the diffference will be much more noticeable after the first 5 weeks :)

      • Great, thanks!

  • I have an espresso machine at home but my wife prefers filter. Are any of these suitable for filter?

Hoping to get a mix bag for our varying tastes.

We have a preferable for light to medium roasts.

    • Would be interested to know too. Are they all espresso roasts or can we ask for filter roast?

    • +1

These coffees are roasted between medium and medium dark to suit the specific coffee and perform best for the average person and all round coffee drinking. Although they will still be pleasant for filter, definitely a light-light medium profile would be preferable for filter as it would preserve more of the sweetness and acidity that will make it shine as a long black coffee.

Because we need to roast in bigger batches unfortunately we can't individually roast as filter at this price point but we do offer custom roasting and profiles for standard website listings.

That being said, if people have requests like filter roast within these Ozbargain deal listings and want to leave notes in Paypal by using the "send money" feature in Paypal to [email protected] then we will always try to assist whenever possible but can't promise.

If notes are left in Paypal then I should be able to make the lucky dip a nice light-medium filter roasted coffee for you :) Please use the "send money" feature in Paypal though so that you can leave notes with your request in Paypal as this helps greatly with us helping and actioning your requests. :)

Magical unicorn makes an incredible aeropress coffee. It's incredible

    • Thanks 😁 Hope you are well!

    • What grind setting do you have these set on? Interested as I just grabbed some of the Magical Unicorn.

  • I got a sunbeam barista Max at home and prefer sweet lattes. Is this going to give the sweet flavour?
What is valves bags ? I bought Aldi beans it had a chip like valve but not sure what to do with it

    • Sweet chocolatey creamy lattes :) These coffees should be great for that!

Ordered 5:30pm Wednesday, turned up 12pm Friday (today). Top notch! Cheers Manna team!
