Pixel 5 $999 (+ Plan Cost) & Get a Free Google Nest Hub Max @ Telstra

390

The cost of the phone is RRP but you get a free Google Next Hub Max if you pre-order.

The Nest Hub Max is currently $349 (JB, Harvey Norman etc) but looks like you will be required to be connected to the Telstra network for at least 1 month as you get a promo code for the Nest Hub Max that you redeem from the google store (cheapest plan is $55 per month but does not include access to Telstra's 5G network).

      • Not yet. They take up to a week to show.

      • Plan took a bit longer to go through but got the 45,000 points and the home hub max

        • I am still waiting for telstra plus points. Did you have to chase telstra for that?

          • @Modesty: I didn't need to chase them. It took about 2 weeks in total after signing in store. They showed up 6 days after the plan showed up in the Telstra app.

  • I have an existing Telstra service. Can I just buy the Pixel 5 outright from Telstra and activate it on the existing Telstra service to qualify for the free Hub Max.

    • Nope doesn't look it.

      • According to Telstra Chat you can. I am buying one outright through the chat at the moment

        • Did you also sign up for a month to month along with outright purchase?
I bought it outright but without a plan, as the terms dont clearly say that a NEW plan needs to be signed up to get the offer. Of course Telstra is now not honouring the offer.

          • @Ace26: I ended up purchasing through a Telstra store and the rep there looked up the offer and agreed that purchasing outright was eligible. He also said if I don't receive the code to come back in store and he would submit the offer for the speaker. I haven't received the code yet (Business day 4) but I have spoken to online chat (try this route first before returning to store) and they requested for another code to be issued to me which should arrive within 3 business days. Will wait and see.

            • @YELNATS: Did code came thru?

              • @Seven8Nine: Nah they are having all sorts of issues with the codes. They credited my account the $349 plus a months usage so over $400. Works out great value as I got the $500 jbhifi deal also.

  • Can anyone that has canceled on the first month could you pleased tell me how you did it and how much you paid
    Thanks

    • +1

Cancelled but still waiting for the bill

      • Thanks for the reply have you received the code for the nest hub?

        • I did within a few days, though I had also signed up for a new sim.
Since I've switched to boost (well about too), I cancelled the telstra planand had to pay $6 for the bill. Haven't received the handset bill yet.

          • @HappyPooPants: How did you buy the phone in store or online?
And did you buy it outright or 12 months?

            • @HaydosK: I bought it online , and did it by adding a sim month to month and the phone, I couldn't buy the phone outright so had to put the phone on the plan also. However since it's a month to month sim, and I can pay out the phone whenever I want, there was no cancellation fee or anything.

              • @HappyPooPants: can you pay the full price of the phone after you cancel the sim?

              • @HappyPooPants: you just pay for the first month of the plan right?

                • @HaydosK: Yup. $6 for the few days

                  • @HappyPooPants: Thats cool! I thought you had to pay the first month in full… Hows the phone?

                    • +1

@Uncle Roger: Havent used it yet, waiting for my case. I don't use phones naked. It is nice looking though.

                      • @HappyPooPants: My order got canceled for some unexpected reason and the customer service is horrible
                        Can you help me

                        • @HaydosK: Sorry I don't work for telstra can't help you.

                          • @HappyPooPants: Yes I understand that you do not work for telstra but I don't know if you have had the same issue

                            • @HaydosK: No, my interaction with them was straight forward. You will need to keep trying them, or contact a store , or head in if you can. I'm sure that would be better. Sorry I can't help further.

                      • @HappyPooPants: So what was your total cost for this?
                        $999+$6?

                        Thanks

          • @HappyPooPants:

had also signed up for a new sim. Since I've switched to boost (well about too), I cancelled the telstra planand had to pay $6 for the bill.

Which plan did you sign up for? Was it just the $45 plan, but you were only charged $6 because it was pro-rataed?

            • +1

@AlanI: It was the small plan, which I believe was $55. It's the cheapest sim I could get

              • @HappyPooPants: finally got the phone today

                • @HaydosK: Nice! What was your toal cost for this, plus cancelling plan?

                  • @Uncle Roger: i have not canceled my plan because i have not received the nest hub max code

                  • @Uncle Roger: i will tell you when i do

                    • @HaydosK: Any code?

                      • @YELNATS: Yes I got it in 3 days
And I cancelled it and the first bill was $1004

                        • @HaydosK: How did you get your first bill so quick? I cancelled it a couple of weeks ago, still waiting for my bill.

                          • @nosrad: I'm not sure
Did you cancel on the phone or live chat?

                            • @HaydosK: On the phone. Did you get the official bill via email? Or only the estimate?

                              • @nosrad: I think it depends on when you sign up to your Telstra account but when I signed up I said there was 2 different dates one when it renews the phone plan and the other one when you get the bill and today was the bill date

                              • @nosrad: And it's not an estimate

                                • @HaydosK: I received an "order estimate" pdf via email. It says disconnection date: 20 Oct. Bill will be issued 19 Nov.

                                  • @nosrad: Yes sorry for the late reply
Expect the full bill to come on November 19

                                    • @HaydosK: When was your disconnection date, and when was your bill date? I wonder how you cancelled the service after me and somehow got the bill before me

                                      • @nosrad: I got disconnected on the 4th and the billing date was the 8th

  • Email from Telstra:

We’re contacting you as we incorrectly advertised this handset on our website as being a ‘Telstra Blue Tick’ handset. Telstra Blue Tick certification is provided to smartphones that provide the best possible coverage in rural and regional areas and are the handsets we recommend for use in regional and rural areas to receive the best coverage experience.
    We’re sorry for the confusion.
As you’ve already got your handset you can either:
Keep your Pixel 5. If you are happy with the handset and don’t need to the Blue Tick requirements you can choose to keep your Pixel 5.
Return your Pixel 5. If you feel that the Pixel 5 is not suitable for your needs without Bluetick certification, you may return the handset and receive a refund of any amount already paid for the handset, or return the handset and swap it for another comparable device that that is Blue Tick certified. You can fill out the form here: https://say.telstra.com.au/customer/general/forms/Google-Pix…
You’ll need your Billing Account Number for the webform that is in the top right corner of this email.
If we don’t receive a completed form from you by 26 November we’ll assume you are happy to keep the Google Pixel 5.
Included in your purchase was a Google Nest hub, you can keep this no matter which option you choose.

  • Managed to get the hub worth ( $350),
Cancel the plan and negotiate a $150 discount on the final payment in the live chat. Final Payment came to $850.
So if i sell the hub for $250 after all fees,

Total cost of the Phone will be $600 for a new pixel 5!!!

seems like a good deal to me!

    • How did you negotiate for a discount lol
