[PS4, Preorder] Spider-Man Miles Morales (with Free PS5 Upgrade) $79 @ Amazon AU and JB Hi-Fi

500

Amazon AU and JB have listed the PS4 version of Spider-Man Miles Morales for $79, $15 cheaper than the PS5 version at JB for $94, or the PS4 and PS5 versions at EB Games for $94.95. The thing is though, the PS4 version comes with a free upgrade to the PS5 version, so unless you really want that new white box art then the PS4 version is far better value. You could also potentially use this version on two consoles if you have a PS5 in your main home theatre setup and a PS4 in a kid's bedroom, where the PS5 version will limit you to playing only on the newer console.

Seems stupid to buy the PS5 version. Honestly, they took so long to drop a PS4 price I was starting to think it was gonna be digital only for last gen, this is good news.

    • +1

The PS5 version was recently $79 too though?

      • +1

It was, but then Amazon adjusted the PS5 price to $94 sometime this week

    • +1

I've been thinking about this subject a bit. Only downside I can think of in buying the ps4 version is potentially more user of system storage? I reckon that HDD space will fill up fast

      • Will it? My guess it will install a patch immediately that will remove files you don't need and add files you need for PS5.

  • +6

Hopefully Amazon will list the same and price beat

    • +1

They originally had it at this price and then increased it. :(

Managed to grab one before that happened though! :)

  • +6

Why is this priced as a full game when its not?

    • +10

the game “will be smaller than a traditional console game but will be sold as a stand-alone project”

Basically just cashing in on the hype?

    • +1

Sounds like it's shaping up to be about a 10 hour main campaign from what I've read, plus extras, which isn't as long as 'Spider-Man PS4', but still a decent experience.

    • +3

Technically it's not full priced. Next gen (PS5 anyway) games are now 125AUD/70USD RRP. This is the new budget title price of 95AUD/50USD. What's annoying is 50USD is 70AUD converted. Even with American sales taxes it should be 75-80AUD.

I can see the price going lower to $69 closer to launch.

      • +4

These prices are crazy for mine.

      • It's just too much.

Everyone, please refrain from buying. If sales are weak they will reduce the RRP, but if people cough up then it'll stay high.

  • Don't think this version has the Spiderman Remastered included

    • +7

Neither does the standard PS5 version, you have to buy the ultimate edition for $124.

      • You can also 'upgrade' to the Ultimate Edition for $30, so it's still cheaper to get MM on PS4 for $80 and upgrade for $30 than to buy the Ultimate Edition. We probably won't know until it's out, but it may also be possible to insert the disc, buy the upgrade to get Spidey Remastered, then sell the disc… unless the upgrade is only for the digital edition? I don't think we know if it is or not.

    • +2

Nope, MM Ultimate Edition only comes on PS5.

      For PS4:

The PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales offers a free upgrade path to PS5 Standard Edition. And if you purchase or upgrade to the PS5 Standard Edition, you can take advantage of a paid-upgrade offer from the in-game menu to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered**.

    • +1

oh wow I thought for sure it would, the remaster looks great though, I'm just not a fan of the new peter parker model at all, he looks 12 compared to the "seasoned" spiderman that they went with in this game

  • -4

Works on both PS4 and PS5. No reason to buy the PS5 version unless you like that white banner.

This version is gonna be worth more if you plan on reselling afterwards.

This could also be like Zelda twilight princess where the previous gen version (GameCube) is worth more money than next gen (wii at that time).

    • +4

Possibly but I’d say it’s unlikely. PlayStation and Xbox games don’t hold their value the same way Nintendo games do. I don’t see anyone lining up for the 360 or PS3 versions of GTA V, for example. Plus the games that do hold their value are generally those that are from a time before digital copies were available and those which were obscure and had limited runs, then became popular again. Still, it's good value for right now either way.

      • I agree. I find the only games now that hold their value (excluding Nintendo made games for the most part) are 'limited edition' collections or games that come in cardboard sleeves. Now that game manuals have all but disappeared, it's pretty easy to find 'complete in box' games, as that's literally all they are now days, a disc in a box, not extras.

        • Having seriously started collecting Xbox360 games over the past 6 months I agree, average price paid has been $3 per game so far and now up to about 350 games. There are a few oddities that seem to keep a reasonable value on Ebay (say $30-$50 max) but if you are patient you can sometimes snap these up at unknowing second hand shops who just have a standard price for all Xbox360 games that get traded in.

Been slowly amassing PS3 games too though they are more $5 average.

Would love to collect old Nintendo games more seriously but that is too crazy when I can buy virtually 100 Xbox 360 games for the price of a Gamecube Paper Mario.

      • I think you missed the point. It’s not about Nintendo or Sony, it’s about availability. When twilight princess came out, the GameCube version was quite hard to buy whereas the wii version was virtually everywhere. This drove the resale value.

In the case of spider man MM. it’s not gonna be worth more than Nintendo games later on. But it’s still gonna be worth more than PS5 version. Not sure by how much. That will depend on the availability of the PS4 version.

        • +2

Availability isn't an issue when games can be downloaded on demand. Also, there will likely be far more PS4 copies of Miles Morales initially made than PS5 because PS4 has sold over 100 million units and PS5 will be lucky to get to 15 million in its first year on sale. That's completely different to the situation with Twilight Princess where GameCube was a niche console much loved by its fanbase, with no digital download alternative, compared to Wii which was a runaway mainstream success.

        • The PS4 has sold over 102 million consoles, if anything there will be way more people buying the PS4 version of Miles Morales than the PS5 version. Especially as there are a limited number of PS5 consoles available, the PS4 version will be on many Christmas lists.

    • This is more of a Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch situation, they’ll both play the same. Twilight Princess GameCube has the appeal of standard controls instead of Wii motion controls.

  • Hopefully Amazon price match

  • +1

And save data will carry across from PS4 to PS5.

    • Do you have any reference that confirms that? I read an article this morning that put doubt over the whole PS4 saves being compatible with ps5 version of the same games.

Edit: Ok, there's a confirmation at least for Miles Morales, so that's good at least.

      • +1

Yeah it’s game dependant. It’s been confirmed for Miles Morales.

        • +5

          Just for any latecomers:
Miles Morales PS4 to Miles Morales PS5, yes
          Spider-Man PS4 to Spider-Man Remastered PS5, no

  • +3

$79 for a DLC!? Thanks, but no thanks.

  • +2

Amazon's page is up, but no price yet. Worth waiting to see if they price it lower:

  • +2

What the hell is wrong with Sony having 2x SKU for the same game?

    • +2

Yeah, Xbox's system with the one disc version of the game to cover cross gen titles makes a lot more sense; far less confusing for people who are just looking for 'the xbox' version of the game and having it work on any Xbox from the last 7 years.

    • I bet they have another SKUs for each region.

  • Thanks OP. This is great news. I didn't think they would make a PS4 version for Miles Morales. Thank you Sony!!!

Now I don't need a PS5 just to play this. The first one was amazing cant wait to see what happens. Always been a fan of the Spidey games.

I hope the next God of War and Horizon game will also be available for the PS4.

    • +1

They have already confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West will be on PS4, dunno about God of War though

      • Sweet. Thanks for the heads up :)

  • I think you should wait to see how the smart delivery works on discs.
Xbox retrocompatibility from 360 and original xbox make you put the disk just as a starter for the downloaded version that would take much more space from the storage.
I wouldn't risk until learning how is gonna truely work.

    • +2

Playstation doesn't use 'smart delivery', that's an Xbox system. Likely for this you will need to insert the disc and it will download the PS5 copy of the game, still requiring the disc for each start up. This will be no different to how a PS5 disc copy will work because either way the full game is stored on the hard drive, nothing runs off the disc with any PS4 or PS5 game. The only difference is the initial installation will be slower due to more assets needing to be downloaded because the PS4 disc will not contain the PS5 installation files.

      • That was my point, regardless of the name, if you have to download the whole digital game to the SSD I don't see any gain in a 10 dollar difference.
You are buying a download key to pass around

        • It’s a $15 difference and you still have to download the whole game to your SSD if you buy the PS5 version. There’s no advantage to buying the PS5 version unless you really like the white box art and want a slightly faster installation on day 1.

  • +2

Ahh pricing dilemmas… I think this will kill the PS5 unless you're super rich.

  • +1

Today's trivia: With PS5 units proven to be in low supply and PS5 games likely in oversupply at launch day, what do you think will happen to the price of the product in oversupply?

    • Down, down… Prices are down.

  • According to this post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/568485 and here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1te_9VgoKOANR3uV8AVw1…
This game is compatible with PS5, but not free upgrade.

    • +1

You’re thinking of Spider-Man PS4, not Miles Morales PS4. This game has been confirmed for the free upgrade to the PS5 version and for cross save compatibility between PS4 and PS5, from all official sources.

      • I see.. i don't have the original one, and planning to play both in PS5, what's the cheapest way to achieve this?

        • Wait for the Ultimate Edition to drop in price if you want to play both in next-gen quality.

        • The cheapest way is to buy the PS4 version of the original Spider-Man for $18 on Amazon right now, it will still be backwards compatible with the PS5. If you want the remastered version of the original then you have to buy the ‘ultimate’ edition of Miles Morales, which is the only version that comes with the remaster of the original.

        • Buy Miles for PS4 ($79) and you will be able to buy the remastered Spider-Man for PS5 as an in-game purchase

          As per the PlayStation Blog

The PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales offers a free upgrade path to PS5 Standard Edition. And if you purchase or upgrade to the PS5 Standard Edition, you can take advantage of a paid-upgrade offer from the in-game menu to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered

  • Is the free upgrade available at launch? I would hate to get the ps5 then get the ps4 version of this and not being able to play it until they patch it or something.

Here, ign explains it all.. https://youtu.be/b9d2H6ioz8Q

    • +1
