Charging $3 for click and collect is surely a pisstake.

  • $3 click and collect 🤔

  • Hardly anyone wearing masks anymore in Sydney :/

  • $6.67 a piece? Must be a joke.

    • feel free to suggest alternatives with similar quality/features that are cheaper?

      • IMHO, it's too expensive to for a mask that you don't know the exact filtration efficiency. Here's why.

Most disposable masks use melt-blown polypropylene fabric inner layer as filter. The fitration capability is from not just the tiny fiber, but mainly from the static electricty. That's is why it can't be washed, as washing will destroy the structure, and eliminate the static electricity.

This mask uses PTFE as filter. Actually it's e-PTFE. Think about it, if a mask can be washed, it means it's not using static electricity, it also means you will have much greater breathing resistance….otherwise how can you get a target filtration efficiency? Before the pandemic, this material was used for industrial filter only. When a lab does the mask test, all the edge was sealed. When you wear a mask, you won't tape all the edge with your face. If the breathing resistance is too high, a lot of air you breath in will be coming from all the edge, not mostly through the filter. Further more, e-PTFE is a water-resistant material, which means it's difficult to be washed. Of course you can try to disinfect it using alcohols or sodium hypochlorite but, do you mind the smell left on the masks? Not to mention those particles remained in the micro holes are difficult to get out, and will bring you more and more breathing resistance. Obviously, if it can pass the breathing ristance test, the filtration efficiency will drop quickly if you wash it. That is why I would only consider it a disposable one, and $6.67 is too expensive for that.

If you want a good looking mask but most importantly, with a consistant filtration efficiency, use the cotton mask with rated replaceable filters.
