Amazon Prime *DAY* AU Any Good?

Does Amazon usually have any good bargains for Prime Day in Australia? Or will we just have to buy the deals that opens up in the US with free international shipping?

Been meaning to get a new mouse and other things that I probably dont need.

edit: sorry I'm a spud, I meant Prime Day. Amazon Prime itself is GREAT when it comes to delivery, no question about that.

Amazon Aus have really improved their offerings and service here in Oz.

Why not try out their 30 day trial first n see if you like their services?

I've kept mine and use their other services like Amazon Video n music. And for $60 a year it blows eBay Plus out of the water.

The delivery service is awesome. The quickest delivery time I've had was one day.

Contrast, I had an order made on 29 September, with Australia post since 2/10/2020 and today I still haven't got it and that is Australia Post for you.

For that free delivery and the speed alone, $60 a year is well worth it.

      • Yeah, delivery is the thing that's impressed me too. Weekend delivery is wacky. I got free delivery on a sunday for an item that was cheap and probably would have cost as much as the delivery, were any other company shipping it…

    • +1

sorry mate I meant Prime Day deals.

Yeah I recently signed back up to Amazon Prime, maybe a month ago and I've already made 10-15 orders. All my orders came within 1-2 days.. which is crazy considering AusPost takes at least 3 weeks to deliver something from Sydney to Melbourne.

Also I agree with you that eBay plus sucks. I signed up for the 30 day trial, used it for.. nothing, cause there was nothing good being offered.

      • Haven't got any intel on any deals as of yet, 4 days to go and i'm sure the good peoples of Ozbargain will be right on it! :-)

        • There will be deals on Corsair PC parts. Amazon email from today.

Delivering two days of special savings on products from small businesses & top brands, this year Prime members can expect to save 40% on select Panasonic Cameras, up to 37% off RRP on select Instant Pot Pressure Cookers and $100 off RRP on Echo Show 8.

"Amazon Aus have really improved their offerings and service here in Oz."
I recently purchased an wd 8tb desktop drive from them (showed in stock at time of purchase), i paid on 28/8/2020, they didnt ship it until 01/10/2020. initially there system said delivery no later than 16/10/2020 it then said 11/11/2020 it now says 03/12/2020. Hows that for customer service?

      • +2

Same issue, bought first phone took over a month before it was lost and refunded. Bought phone again and it's been five days and still not shipped.

        • I've had a few delays not just with Amazon but eBay and a few other online shopping sites. It happens.

      • Never said it was perfect. No system is perfect. They have improved a lot since they came to Oz but still have some improvements of course, covid isn't helping either.

I've had plenty of issues with eBay and other online shopping sites which had to get sorted. With Amazon recently I've had a few items being delayed. It happens.

      • Was the item sold by Amazon AU, or was it from Amazon US or UK?

I had an item from Amazon UK ship over a month later and one from Amazon US that didn't ship for almost two months, and required me asking them three times about the order.

But I've had no problems with items sold by Amazon AU.

    • Just "NO" to ebay plus

Just to give you an idea, can't say much about 2020 deals…

    • Cheers.. well at least if last year was any indication, according to that article, they'll ship out prime day US deals to us without a minimum spend.

  • +15

Usually pretty disappointed with the actual Prime deals, but Amazon Prime as a service, IMO is pretty good. I buy enough stuff on Amazon that the free expedited shipping amongst other niceties are worth the $60 or so that I pay per year.

  • +3

Amazon Prime is really great, very happy with them.

137 orders placed in past 3 months
    178 orders placed in 2020

    • +1

What much order you have placed on eBay at the same time?

      • ~30 in 2020 (including items from coles) and I have eBay plus.

    • +3

did you buy toilet paper by individual rolls?

      • lol. does amazon sell individual rolls?

    • +20

Thats crazy man.. 136 orders in 3months??

Thats more than 1 order per day, what the hell have you been buying man

    • How much did you spend?

    • oh what a joy to be opening a few packages every day

unless its… toilet paper or other daily necessities

  • -1

    No

  • +6

its great but I cancelled because I was ordering too many items.

    • +9

By that logic, I should've cancelled OzBargain too. :-)

  • +2

The man said there will be a discount on some Instantpot models.

Yeah sometimes people neg you randomly then someone else will come along and not understand what the basis for the neg was and give you a + to compensate. If you believe in what you said then leave it.

oh boy - the golden rule is nice, but that's a position you hold, which is fine. Expecting others to reciprocate, that might be asking too much.

Anyway, for the record, I didn't neg you. :)

  • I bought quite a bit last year in the prime day deals. Quite a mix of things from household staples to new headphones from Amazon US.

  • +2

I expect it to be a let down, just like last year. You can get epic bargains on Amazon if you're lucky, but that's all due to their fluctuating pricing.

    • +16

      Last year

August: Ebay better watch out! Amazon is possibly going to have some killer deals this November!
September: Ebay better watch out! Amazon is probably going to have some killer deals this November!
October: Ebay better watch out! Amazon is definitely going to have some killer deals this November!

Amazon in November: here's some $3 flip flops and 20c off a half-eaten spring roll.

      • +7

That’s awesome, I hope they have a deal on the spring roll again this year!

      • Your a funny one 😂😂😂

  • They are having a massive push to Aus Small Biz
Allowing many retailers and smaller companies who do not usualy trade online to take part.
Lowered comms etc, i know my company was approached and we intend to sell some items

They are not charging us for "shipped by amazon"

I would anticipate a lot of products you normally would not see on Amazon.

    • Does 'shipped by Amazon' translate to any quality control by Amazon or fake checking memory cards etc, or do they just blindly pack unchecked from storage?

      • +1

Im pretty sure all that mean is just.. if any customer contact with any issue, they'll just issue a replacement/refund and tag that onto the seller. That's how my understanding of sold by marketplace fulfilled by Amazon works.

    • There is a huge number of stories around (last I read was on reddit about an autoparts broker) where amazon have these pushes to get new sellers on their platform. Amazon has all the analytics and the best new sellers just happen to be where amazon decides to compete with their own product or service the following year.

      • You got that right. People have had the experience, just need to Google the question.

    • +1

Not doing enough, I’m afraid. In the UK they’re offering £10 credit to spend £10+ with a small business before Prime Day.

      https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=15430759031

      • Completely different markets and customer sizes. Can’t compare at all.

  • +1

We poor Ozzies get slugged with all sorts of rorts. Many times I've sources an item only to find "seller does not ship to your address".

Then, and if you find an item, the price has been jacked up exponentially.

The Govt goes on about China, what about the US?

Trumplethinskin doesn’t react well to criticism.

True enough. Those who live in glasshouses shouldn't arm all their citizens with automatic weapons…

        • It is a very scary place. However, the people who are for him are even scarier than those against him.

  • The only winner for this sale will be Amazon. Amazon is expecting sellers who participate to sell the item for a huge discount.

  • +1

Just curious - would you be eligible for Amazon Prime Day with the free 30 day free trial?

I've only made 9 transactions on Amazon and haven't considered the membership, but there's a heavily discounted item on my watchlist that will be on sale something roughly like 30% on Prime Day. Cheers!

    • +1

Definitely, all you need is an active Prime subscription at the date of the event.

      • +1

        Excellent thanks for the confirmation!

  • +1

Amazon Prime Day is always a let down lol, even before amazon arrives in aus.

But Amazon Prime itself is good, at least I get cheap/free shipping for international amazon orders. The inclusion of Amazon UK recently is amazing. Therefore, I'll just think of Prime Day as a cherry on top.

  • Prime day has been good only for Echo devices that's it

    • Agreed, and sometimes kindles as well. But aside from that they are just pushing out crap that no one wants to buy.

    • +1

my og switch would like to disagree with you there.. prime day buy at $290 (with some cash back) a few primes back :) ..

  • +1

I hope Reese cereals goes on sale shipped from US!

    • Only bought 1 box last year, already forgot about it hah
Will need to grab a couple this year if they do

  • Is there any genuine bargain ? Whats on your list ?

  • Hoping to get some EUFY or Arlo Pro deals. Cant decide between the two and leaning to Arlo as not a big fan of battery powered EUFYs

    • do Arlo Pro have other than battery powered cameras?

  • I got my PS4 Pro 1TB in the 2018 Prime for $379 which was considered a stellar deal back then.

  • Do they ever have discounts on vinyl records on Prime Day?

  • Hi, is it better to sign up for free 30 day prime beforehand or is there usually deals for new sign ups? Thanks

  • Getting my lists of deals ready ☺️

  • Good luck to everyone tomorrow. Hope you score yourselves some good deals!

  • +1

Are there usually timed deals? (i.e. do we have to stay up till midnight tonight or are the same deals available tomorrow morning)

    • Would also like to know this, never got around to buying anything (deals) on Prime day before.
Is this like Crap of the Day flash sales? and/or with very very limited stock available?, I stop using CotD years ago.

Is this only on the Au site or US/UK as well?
Ive only recently ordered a few things from Amazon Au for the first time, so never from US/UK.

  • Can I expect stuff on Prime Day deals to be equal/better than black friday deals? I'm after electronics usually.
Photo gear that gets good BF stuff. Don't need new PC gear this yr.

  • +8

    These deals suck.

    • +4

Agreed. Absolute load of crap, but that's what I expected. Off to bed.

  • I bought some SD cards about a week ago and now they're on sale for cheaper, is there anyway Amazon will refund the difference or will I have to return and buy again?

    • There is an option when contacting Amazon for the price changing, they often give out a Promo credit when asked.

      • +1

Tried contacting them via web chat and email now and both times they've been adamant that I would have to return the item, which is strange. Might try again tomorrow during, uh, Australian business hours

        • May as well pop your amazon return cherry anyway.

        • I find extremely different responses from different Amazon support people, they aren't very consistent.

        • Yeah me too. Return the item and buy it again. Can't be bothered to go to my post office to mail a return.

  • +1

New Bose Noise Cancelling for $399, is that a good price?

  • OzAmazongain

  • +4

those deals so far suck, time for bed

  • Remember to use https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/ to check sale price to recent prices.

edit - I looked at wrong model ! facepalm

  • +3

The deals are REALLY bad this year. Must be due to covid ☹️

Most things pantry/food related are cheaper at Costco excluding the Starburst snakes so far.

All the other stuff has been junk.

Merged from Not Much Deals to Buy from Amazon Prime Day

So I have flicked through Ozbargain whole day searching for great (good is not enough), I literally spent whole day on ozbargain but I hardly got any. The only thing I got was the $10 promo for $100 Amazon gift card though I need to check if the promo actually went through.

Not sure if this is me have everything I wanted (obviously not 😂) or is it this year is lacking in great deals compared to last year? I have to admit, as a keen ozbargainer I buy a lot of good stuff from daily deals.

    • +1

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing too. Was keen to pick up some bargains but so far I only got the echo show 5

    • +2

Last year was shit too. I knew it would be a let down..

      • seems like the ebay deals are better tbh. E.g Shield Pro for 295 and the Xiaomi 34" for 479

    • Me Too, but last year was ordinary too, The year before (was that the first year) was great.

  • Times are fairly tough at the moment, every $ counts for people, but also business. they have been smashed to bits this year. thousands of business closed, people worried about $$ and job security… hate to work in retail at the moment.

having said that, that should be affecting online stores a lot less.
