DC Pedestal Fan with Wi-Fi $89.99 at ALDI

1480

My algorithm has picked out the one which I think is the standout for the deal title but then there are other good deals that others can post/discuss.

The portable air conditioner with wi-fi for $399 also looks good with summer around the corner.

Full catalogue via link.

PS. Before anyone mentions this is a lazy post, it took about 20 mins to edit the photos. I'll let the deals speak for themselves.

Thankyou for the upload! The punch and chisel set at 9.95 is a good deal and the Christmas tree stepped bits are value at 14.95

Watching now for Bunnings price match on 4.0 ah batteries, 2.0 ah battery and charger combo.

    • +6

im guessing they'll match it for the ozito range only?

    • +2

I too am watching and waiting for Bunnings to act. I'd love an Ozito sander.

I just but the reciprocating saw but sadly it's not brushless like the aldi one.

    • +1

Disappointed that the 4Ah batteries have moved to $50, good that I have plenty already.

are u from qld? I ask cause in love the Aldi catalogue but would like to see the alcohol sales too, which u don't have (was it QLD which doesn't have booze in aldi)

    • "(was it QLD which doesn't have booze in aldi)"

      That's correct. Sadly.

      • And South Australia…….. ( ͡° ʖ̯ ͡°)

        • but why?

          • +2

@kaleidoscope: In S.A., liquor licensing laws. Alcohol is not permitted to be sold in supermarkets.

            • +1

@DashCam AKA Rolts: Same in Qld - so also no booze @ Costco!

            • @DashCam AKA Rolts: Bit surprised - doesn't SA have lowest alcohol taxes?

              • +1

@brendanq: Not sure on the taxes, but we were the nanny state for a long time re: alcohol sales: hours for bar service, Sunday sales etc. A lot has changed since then but the ban on alcohol sales in supermarkets remains.

Interesting, wonder how it stacks up against the Kmart wifi option that was a relatively popular hit this time last year.

Big W was showing $150 but no stock

Any reviews/info on the Aldi one not a bad price if it's decent quality and warranty

    • probably worth mentioning that it's not really worth comparing ac and dc fans, you'll be able to pick up ac fans at less than half the price from my research a couple months ago

      • Yeah i guess the vornado DC is a bit different, has a variable type dial so nice to adjust exactly how you want, and energy efficient apparently

  • -2

Every DC motored product I have seen reviews say have issues around RF and/or reliablity. Why would you gamble?

The 2x20V 5-in-1 garden skin for $199 looks pretty good if you're needing 2 or more of the 5. The 5 tools are a brush cutter, line trimmer, pole saw, hedge trimmer and edger.

    • But you need to buy 2 batt and charger separately which increases the price quite a bit. May be only effective if you need all of them.

  • +3

    "with WIFI"

…okay, now you're just fvcking with me

    • +3

Smart home, turn on the fan when it's detect a fart? 🤭

  • +1

Does it work with Google Home/Alexa?

    • There was a comment above mentioning something about possibly flashing the chip in it, someone would need to pull a unit apart first to determine if that’s possible. Not sure if this is strictly necessary, seems overkill. Maybe a good opportunity for a coder who’s still in lockdown taking on a project?

      • I tried to find the user manual(to check
what app this fan is using) but the only Stirling model I found is FS1-40DC that
looks exactly like this one posted here, but it
doesn’t have wifi. I was thinking that maybe one can set Siri shortcuts if the Stirling app supports them

  • +2

$49 for 4AH battery, its gone up :(

    • Yes that could translate into Bunnings following suit. They usually do the batteries for $39

      • Yea probably, I was hoping to pick up a few Ozito batteries, damn.

  • Has anyone here bought the mower before? In the market for one but the 18V or 36V Ryobi ones are very expensive in comparison…

Not much of a gardener myself, just need one to mow the lawn once in a while so it doesn't get too long - couch lawn (TifTuf)

    • +3

I bought the same kit at the start of the year. The mower works surprisingly well. I have a large and rough country block (1200 sq m) which it handles on one charge using 4 amp batteries purchased separately. The catcher fills up quickly and wet grass sometimes clogs underneath but for the price I have been happy. Whipper snipper works. Worth buying the 4 amp batteries when available as 2 amp don’t last long. I also bought an extra 2 amp and charger for the line trimmer so I can reserve the mower batteries as matched pairs

      • +1

Thanks for the insight! Seems like something I might actually consider - my block has only 200 sqm of lawn to mow so it sounds like it'll last long enough

      • +1

Is the XFinity an aldi brand? Will it likely be supported in the long run?

I have an electric mower I purchased a few years ago and one of the batteries has died and the working battery only lasts for like 15 mins before needing another charge. Can't source a replacement battery.

        • I did some brief digging on previous threads - it looks like there's a seller on Gumtree that 3D prints adaptors to make Ozito branded batteries compatible with the Aldi mowers

        • Is the XFinity an aldi brand?

          Yes.

Will it likely be supported in the long run?

The 20V battery system has been available/supported for 3 years now. I don't see that changing any time soon. They've got quite the tool collection built around it by now.

Other spare parts for the mower is a bit more iffy. Best you can probably hope for is a refund if it fails within warranty period.

    • Had mine 3 years now, can't fault it. Works well on a sloped backyard as its really light.

    • ive had mine for 1year so far. works well
brother in law has the Ryobi. the Ryobi has a small cutting blade so you have to do extra passes. the gardenline is wider. Ryobi is freaking tiny and way overpriced!

  • +3

    Celing fan is best fan.

  • Any mist fan offers!

  • Anyone ever used the $39 tower fan? Seeing some mixed reviews online but I've been looking for one.

    • I haven’t got that exact model but had one quite similar from Aldi. For $39 it’s fairly decent value. If you’re using it while working at a home office or to cool a fairly small room it’d be okay. To be honest though I think a cheap pedestal fan is usually more practical/effective, especially for a bedroom cos you can adjust the height.

I live in a Brisbane sharehouse with no AC or ceiling fans so could write a book on pedestals/towers.

      • Thanks! I don't have a lot of space in my room so I'd prefer a tower fan; in my last apartment in Canada I had a tower fan that seemed to work for me so I think it would be okay.
Was the model you had very noisy? White noise is okay, but too much rattling etc would be a dealbreaker for me.

    • Have the $39 tower fan since a year and planning to get another this time. Works well for the price. Remote has the original batteries which came in the box and they're still working. Minor nitpicks but no major complaints.

      • Thanks - can I ask what your minor nitpicks are?

        • +1

I read your earlier comment and it seems you care about noise, so i'll try and cover that.

          • It has 3 speeds, level 1 is what I use the most which is the quietest and it has been sufficient for Melbourne weather. Level 2 and 3 are more noisy (white noise), but certainly something you would get used to the more you use it
          • The swing function though, has a bit of rattle at a certain point in its oscillation. There wasn't when it was new. I could probably disassemble and reassemble it, but don't need it that much to be bothered, and I just use it without the swing.
          • There are a few other modes (silent, natural wind simulation and turbo, i think) which can be combined with the speeds. IMO they are pretty useless. I just run it at the default
          • The real nitpick is that you can't directly change speeds, you need to cycle from 1->2->3->off->1 and there's a beep each time you do it. Actually there's a beep anytime you press any button. So if you want to lower the speed from 2 to 1, it'll cause 3 beeps, which is a huge pain if you're doing this in the middle of the night

While saying the above, there's 60 days where you can try it and return it, so pretty low risk if you want to try it out.

          • @starbearer: Thanks a bunch, really appreciate that. Sounds similar to what I used to have down to the beeps and cycling through settings, so I'll consider giving it a go - even if I can't return it maybe I can pass it onto someone. Cheers again!

  • +1

Does the fan have a quiet mode? I wonder how it compares to the kogan fan with quiet mode.

Every year that passes with me sleeping with a loud/cheap fan, I get fomo of paying more for a better one.

    • Yes I wonder how quiet it is.

      • You'd need excellent hearing in a silent room to hear the lowest 3 speeds on the Kogan fan. The next 4 speeds are a quiet hum with the noise of air movement.

    • The quiet mode on the Kogan fan practically means slower speed ranges.

      i.e.
      Speeds 1 to 9 = Silent
      Speeds 10 - 36 = Standard

  • +2

Lately I realized many items on catalogue didn't show up on the stores I checked (VIC), like spraying bottle and mixer today. And camping chairs came like a week later than it supposed to come. There wasn't any announcement too.

  • Could the battery be used in Ozito PXC?

    • No. Different mount. Ozito is 18volts, the ALDI range is 20volts, iirc.

      • +3

As far as power tool batteries go, 20V is the same as 18V.

      • You can 3D print an adaptor.

18v ==20v in tools; ones advertising max, and ones advertising nominal of the same lithium batteries.

        • TIL.

18v ==20v in tools; ones advertising max, and ones advertising nominal of the same lithium batteries.

    • Yes you can, if you have access to a 3D printer you can print this adapter https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3509025

  • +5

I'm a huge proponent of smart home but I fail to justify the cost differential between a $10 fan with a $20 smart plug and this; its not an innovative design or has any other standout feature. I get that you can probably adjust the speed and/or rotation but is that worth $60? Not to me. Also at the end of summer when the fan goes away, you have a spare smart plug to put on a heater or somewhere else in the home, potentially doubling the saving if one were to buy a WiFi heater as well.

    • +5

DC motor fans (even non-smart versions) are completely different to a $10 fan. They're essentially silent in night mode so they have a target market of people sleeping with a fan. I am not able to sleep with a $10 fan

      • +3

I like the white noise of a team fan at night, would rather hear that than possums and other critters scratching around outside, for one of those altise chrome/metal Blade fans , it's noisy so would be perfect outside. The lowest setting is a too strong, and the base has fallen apart after a lot of years. May be due for a new one, kind of rusted a bit too.

A remote would be handy for adjusting power and direction but think $90 is over priced for something that may not last very long (what's the warranty)? Those other tower fans look cool but seem pretty weak.

Actually got a 633dc vornado for the living room floor and like running it low for air flow half the time, very quiet but is a real directed airflow so hard to get pointing where you want it.

The Kogan DC pedistal fan looks ok for $70 plus postage, good reviews

Wonder if the premium is better with 12 speeds 3 heights, led display https://www.mattblatt.com.au/mb/buy/kogan-premium-dc-motor-p…

        • Wow, why is it $30 cheaper here than on kogans own website, not a bad find.

          • @sk3iron: Yeah would have been better if the physical stores weren't closed or could pick up :)

        • wierd that the Mattblatt site is identical to Kogan and said I already had a login and accepted my password/username. Then you find that Kogan aquired Matt blatt, but the Premium fan is a LOT cheaper than Kogan even with Kogans free shipping today

          • @Squeezy: Yep 30$ cheaper than the non premium from Kogan.

Thinking I'll just get the Bunnings one for $109.
The ALDI one would prob be fine and 2y warranty, could always return it and they would resell it easily. Don't know if works with Google home

Great now gotta line up outside Aldi to fight with the pensioners for a fan next Wednesday morning.

    • -7

Just wow, if you need to fight pensioners over a $90 fan you need to rethink your life choices. They likely need it more than you do, stop being a shit human being.

      • +6

Wow relax, it's a common joke for Aldi special buys because there was a video going around a few years back of pensioners fighting over something @ Aldi.

        • +1

LOL Yes exactly, and no I don't fight over it, i'll come in the afternoon and if there's one left over, I'll grab it if any good.

I've lived in towns with a greater than 50% homeless rate, and it's not like that….

  • Any feedback/reviews on the Aldi Ceiling Fan?

    • Also interested to hear feedback from the people that purchased the ceiling fans last year.

I did some research last year as I was going to purchase 4 of them but it never eventuated. From what I found it sounded like the fan operated by RF and had the potential to be controlled with home automation with a little effort.

      • +3

1 x Aldi fan in master bedroom for ~2 years. 2 x Aldi fans in kids bedrooms for ~3-4 years.
All DC with RF remote and LED lights. (kids might be AC)
Replaced ceiling light, used existing light switch.
Very quiet, reverse fan button on remote.
Thought the short beep whenever remote button is pressed would be annoying, but hasn't been the case.
If the power goes out, unfortunately the default on power restored is a beep and LED light on. Does not remember fan setting.
This is something to consider if you often have power outages overnight. If not an issue (we've been fine where I live) it works in your favour if using as lightswitch. You walk into a dark room and light is switched off from remote which you can't find, because dark. Just flick switch off for a few secs then light on.
LED is not dimable but well diffused.

Light sleeper so quite operation is the main feature and it delivers that very well. Also best value when compared at the time.

        Would recommend to a friend.

        • Is the LED light bright enough? Do you know the lumen rating?

          • +3

@choister: Bright enough in our white room without being too bright.

            • @FarKen: How do the remotes not get confused with another room? Thanks

              • +2

                @bne87: Good question.
The older ones had a dipswitch with 4 pins you'd match up between each remote and fan.
Had a look in the newer remote, but nothing of the sort. It was matched up out of the box, so not sure if they're already uniquely coded or if there is some sort of pairing sequence. Nothing obvious on the remote or fan.
Sticker on back of remote reads: "Use only with product model 20440 - 433MHz"

A home automation question was asked earlier. I did play around with Sonoff RF flashed with Tasmota as a RF <-> WiFi <-> MQTT gateway. This was able to record and playback the RF codes, to control the fan.

                • @FarKen: Any idea if it's possible to have the existing light switch wired to control just the light and have the fan itself on constant power?

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: I am not an electrician, so there might be a way. From what I can gather the power goes to the remote controller in the canopy, from there to the fan and light itself. Everything is controlled via the RF remote.
I found the wiring diagram (2018-10 model)

@bne87: Managed to locate the manual (2018-10) which mentions how to pair the remote with the fan. Seems as simple as making sure any other fan is powered off at time of pairing.

    Nice catalogue!

Note that the sander is a basic one rather than a random Orbital, so it will likely produce little swirls in whatever you're working on. Worth spending a bit more for a random Orbital for any serious work IMO.

A general note for the portable AC units, you will want to make the heat outlet hose as short as possible to reduce the amount of heat being released back into your room. When I've used one in the past I've also wrapped the tube in a blanket for insulation, made the machine much more effective at cooling overall.

Split systems are still a far better option for noise and efficiency, but in a different pricing league of course.

  • Finally they are selling an Xfinity reciprocating saw. I bought an Xfinity drill/impact wrench set a couple of years but ended up buying an Ozito Power Xchange reciprocating saw as I predicted I could be waiting indefinitely for an Xfinity one.

    • +1

Interesting. I have the Ozito recip also and is one of my most use tools. Great for pruning and light work. I do have a lot of Workzone stuff also and batteries so may get the Aldi one also ( have some tools at weekender/holiday house )
