  • I wonder if it is worth going for the Extreme Pro at $89 for 400Gb and $139 for 512Gb.

    • Yes it does

    • +2

Yep just got the 400gb Extreme Pro for $89.

    • +2

For cameras and other recording devices, always get the Extreme or Extreme Pro. For something that installs things to the card and runs them, like a Switch, Ultra is fine and Extreme is probably overkill. Things might be different if you hack your Switch. For a phone Ultra is fine for installing apps on it but might be too slow if you are using the phone to record videos.

For a Vita with the SD adapter, Ultra is already as fast as the Vita reads and writes at.

If you are moving big files around, note that anything less than an Extreme will take aaaaages to copy 400GB onto.

  • +2

512 for $79 seems to be an incredible deal

  • do you think this will be fast enough to shoot 4k at 30fps?

    • +2

At 30fps, probably, I'd still opt for at least the extreme at this price if that's what you're wanting to use them for

      • thanks might do just that

      • +1

depends on recording bitrate - 30fps, 60fps even 120fps or higher doesn't matter if they all record at the same bitrate….just that you higher frame rated videos might look…fugly with all that compression artifacts happening being with insufficient bitrate…

      • what about 1080p 60fps?

        • Even Class 10 will do that.

  • Cheers OP ;)

  • Are these genuine? Review comment suggesting it's fake for some types.

    • +2

sold by Amazon AU = Genuine

      • +1

Not necessarily, fake return stock get mix in with genuine stock. So best to check if it’s original.

        • I've ordered a couple of 32Gbs for some security cameras. But now I worry. How do you test of they're genuine? The fakes are printed pretty well on the card. Is there a way to test?

          • +1

@Cralis: Run them through a program called h2testw. It'll check and test the actual size of the card.

    • I'd be wary way too many reviews saying they are fake

      • +3

The reviews get grouped across all sellers. The reviews are not relevant.

      • +1

I read an article recently, the gist of which was that Amazon mixes stock from multiple sellers together. So if Amazon is fulfilling it, there's no way to tell if it's genuine or less than.
Best to play it safe and run FakeFlashTest on everything you buy, no matter where you buy it from.

The good news is that even if it is fake, Amazon will accept it for return. So you're not going to lose anything other than time.

      • Received my 200GB. Genuine product.

  • What does this mean?

This is an aftermarket of generic part

^^ that's in the item description

  • is this good for switch? I am so confused with speed

    • +2

Switch doesn't really benefit from high speed cards, this is fine

      • These are the budget high density MicroSD card, I wouldn't call these high speed cards.
In fact the 4K random reads are only 9MB/s…

        • +7

That’s why he said “this is fine” (because switch doesn’t really benefit from high speed cards).

      • +3

        u1 vs u3 cards

it does matter in the switch

        https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/9gvq1u/switch_…

        • +1

Depends what video you watch - Digital Foundry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbItTEmozxw

Also your link was to people using hacked systems probably running something like Xecuter SX.
For the majority of switch users that aren't running a hacked Switch these cards are fine. I've got numerous cards for my switch and being honest the very slight difference in time isn't worth the difference in price to me. Though to some it may be worth it, I'd rather spend the savings on more games ;-)

          • @CheapGit: That review literally has the Sandisk Ultra beating the Sandisk Extreme Plus
It is not a comparison between different manufacturers, and the Extreme Plus is a super old discontinued line to top it off.

            • @adepta: I know that, my point was you can always get different results depending on where you get your info.

That Reddit thread linked testing cards on a hacked switch is different scenario from majority of Switch users.

The cards they used were these

Samsung 128GB EVO Plus UHS-i Class 10 Micro SDXC Card up to 80MB/s (MB-MC128D)

              Samsung 256GB EVO Plus Class 10 UHS-I microSDXC U3 (MB-MC256GA)

These cards listed on Amazon deal meet the Switch specs and IMO the difference using the higher speed cards on the Switch is not worth the difference in price.

I'm using a mix of cards, from the one listed in this deal, older SanDisk Ultra black card with red writing, Samsung Evo plus U3 and U1, and a Toshiba card and in day to day usage.
And I just bought some more of these cards listed.

        • Note in that comparison the write speed difference is huge between the U1 and U3 microSD cards that he tested and doesn't necessarily reflect all U1 cards since the U1 spec has a minimum sequential write speed of 10MB/s, not a maximum so there can be a lot of variance between different U1 cards.

The U1 microSD card he tested was a 128GB Samsung Evo Plus U1 MB-MC128DA/EU, rated for 80MB/s read, 20MB/s write.

The U3 microSD card he tested was a 256GB Samsung Evo Plus U3 MB-MC256GA/AM, rated for 100MB/s read, 90MB/s write.

Meanwhile the SanDisk Ultra U1 card in this deal is rated for 100MB/s read, no official sequential write speed figure, but benchmarks have found it to be up to 62.9MB/s.

If 20MB/s is the max rated sequential write speed of the U1 card that redditor tested, you can imagine how much better this Ultra U1 card is because rated speeds are like best case scenarios. Even in the comments of that reddit post, there are comments that point to OP's U1 card performing unusually poorly even for a U1 spec microSD card and how their own U1 card was 2-3x faster at installing & loading games than his.

      • Just gonna come in and say Switch does benefit, according the Warframe devs…
But anything above UHS1 should be fine
        https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1227271-psa-nintendo-switc…

        • The Warframe Devs just listed the specs from Nintendo support page, I'd be more concerned with the user comments that the slow downs only happened after the update and new UI system.

    • I have the 128gb ultra for the switch, I just upgraded to the 400gb with this deal.

  • +3

Wow 512gb under $100 who cares how fast it is more room for my current 512gb Note 9,.. yes she fills up easily,.. cough cough torrents, im choking 😀 think I'm gonna buy few if them 👍

    • if u think 512 is great, wait till you see the 2tb ones….

      • 512 max note 9 supports I HV s9 plus it's only upto 400

Hmm, not bad, not bad at all…

  • Are they coming with the adaptor to full size SD🤔🤔?

  • are these goods for dashcam?

    • Check your dashcam, most of them have allow only up to 32GB or 64GB

  • Thanks OP, picked up a 512GB for my modded switch :D

    • Same. This should cover 90% of the games worth playing without swapping.

  • 512GB coming at $128.99

  • 512GB back up to $128.99, just missed it :(

  • Dam messed around trying too add more stuff too my cart,.. 20 minutes later the 512gb cards were removed from my cart :(

  • +1

What are the write speeds? 60, 90 or 100?

  • Don't think we'll ever need more than 640 kilobytes, but you guys go ahead and knock yourselves out with your fancy almost-terabyte storage

  • 200GB for the polyend tracker for under 30 bucks? Never going to worry about running out of space for samples…

  • Good enough for some extra storage for the Switch?

    • Answered above…

  • The price of the 128GB card shows $19.50 in the cart, but when I click checkout it shows $25.59. Prime membership has 9 months left.

    • +1

The discount is shown in the order summary. Amount payable is the discounted price. I just ordered.

  • Any recommendations for a SD card for a s7+ tablet or doesn't really matter?

    • +1

I'm looking for one for my S7 too and unless if you constantly shoot 4K30fps I don't think it matters. Even the Ultra U1 is more than enough for photos/videos and the downloads folder which is what I plan to do on mine.

You wouldn't want to store apps on a microSD card even if you could because they're so slow compared to the onboard UFS storage. I benchmarked 1100MB/s read and 200MB/s write on mine (in a 4MB sequential read/write test).

  • Got a couple of 200G's.

  • Rubbish…..

This ultra class cards have low speed. I wanna see a device getting those 100MB/s hahaha

To have a decent performance you need class Extreme which is more expensive and have a better performance
This one is not good for drones, dahscam, smarthphones.
In order to process video the card requires the classification V (video)
The basic one and cheap is V30.

Anything other than those, the drone, dashcam, smarthphone needs to process more to be able to write the data. That results in hot device and the battery performance goes to hell.

I used to use these SanDisk Ultra and I only found happined with SanDisk Extreme V30 which supports 4k/8k recording

  • In case you are planning to buy this for DJI Mavic Mini - this Micro SDCard is not for you - source

    Supported SD Cards
UHS-I Speed Class 3 or above is required. A list of reccomended microSD cards can be found below.

  • Is this good to use in samsung tablet?

  • Can you only get this if you sign up to Amazon Prime? How much does it cost to subscribe and is there a free trial?

    • +1

  • thanks, got the san disk extreme 128gb. $4 cheaper than OW lol
