Good deal considering the 5600X is predicted to be close to $500.

pretty annoying tbh. waiting for a 5600 part. coming from a 2600 to 3600 isnt worth it

      • I'm waiting too. I'm running a 2600 so it makes more sense to go to 5600X. The price hurts though, almost worth it to go all out and grab a 5800X or 5900X.

        • +1

depends on the load too, for me (gaming) getting more than 6 cores/12 threads makes absolutely no sense (ie going from 2600 to 2700).

      • +1

If you're already on 2600 I wouldn't bother, better to wait for a new socket than upgrading to an EOL one.

Is the 2600 really holding you back or is it just GAS (gear acquisition syndrome)?

        • a bit of boredom, not getting to play with tools like Clock Tuner - i have to look at benchmarks of 2600 vs 2700 or 3600 to see it makes no sense for me to upgrade to those or even overclock my 2600.

the same goes for RAM. my 3000Mhz C15 Corsair vengeance is 4 yrs old now (and difference at 1440p is barely noticable), but I want to get the new sticks just for the RGB fun. i guess i shouldnt bother as well because the next socket will probably introduce DDR5 which will make my 3600Mhz C16 purchase obsolete

lets see what 5600 has to offer

    • $299 USD?

Exchange rate + 10% GST + bit extra because Australia.

I feel like GPU will be the only missing part in my build after tonight..

    • Same. Missing GPU & case.

  • There it is!

OK, time to pull the trigger, 4K gaming here we come!

  • Cool - so we need to wait until 8pm for the code to go live?

    • +1

      That's correct! :)

      • I assume it was AEDT not AEST and im now the twat that missed out?

  • Question: Can we add stuff to cart (via Shopback?) and the complete the purchase at 8pm? Or does every item need to be re-added?

  • come on amazon, I have a whole list waiting to be bought.

  • Does anyone know of we load the eBay cart up if they will empty it at 8? How's shopback go with that? I know you don't get the cash back (due to voucher) but will you get the ten bucks?

    • what?

  • Tough decision! No computer at the moment but moving into my new house in a week or so, should i pick this and the rest of my parts up or wait out for the ryzen 5 5600x and new gpus?

If you're gaming at 1080p or 1440p I'd go 5600X. The gaming improvement is too good to pass up. If you're gaming at 4k then I'd go 3600.

      • I will be gaming at 1440p, no computer at all is driving me nuts haha! Would using this ebay plus 20% off on a bunch of parts tonight be a bigger saving than waiting for all of it to be old gen in a month or so and possibly be even cheaper?

        • there's nothing stopping ebay from having more 20% off when the old gen gets cheaper

      • +1

        Why 3600 for 4K gaming ?

        • +2

Because your performance will be so heavily GPU bound it won't really matter what the CPU is (within reason).

If gaming in 4K it's much much more impactful to allocate funds to GPU over CPU for this reason.

  • I wonder AMD is getting lazy because intel is not doing well, they not selling 4650g/4750g in retail market, and price bump for zen3. 2020 Just if you want APU, you can only go zen+ 3400g, that doesn't look right.

    • Laptop demand is why you're not seeing the G chips in retail. It took them by surprise.

      • Got you, at this time not sure put the trigger for 3600 for this price or not, zen3 comes I guess this will further drop? Like wait for black Friday?

  • Pc part newbie here. I'm planning on building a pc, but not very urgently. Will black friday sales be a worthwhile wait for this?

    • Possibly. I can see it going down further when Zen 3 hits, although it does occupy the cheaper end of 6/12 CPU market without much price competition. 2600 still goes for $200 years later.

  • Its a few dollars cheaper from Shallothead:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AMD-3600-Ryzen-5-CPU-3-6-GHz-6-C…

    $344 down to $275.20

  • Got one. I had it in cart beforehand and after 5pm it auto applied the code for me. Be a nice upgrade from the Ryzen 5 1600 that I currently have.

  • $275 3600 vs $209 3300X, which would you pick guys? mainly gaming, no video nor photo editing.

    • 3600 for sure if you can afford the extra dollars

  • I manage to snag the 3600 for $250 earlier this year. I expected it drop further on future sales but it hasn't - so I guess it might drop when the benchmarks of the 5600X comes out, even then the significant price difference between the two might not see the 3600 drop :(

    • AMD have intentionally positioned 5600X well above 3600 so they can move their brand perception away from being the "value option" and towards being the outright best performance. I can see them reducing 3600 slightly to fight Intel, but it wont be because 5600X is out.

  • Thank you Ozbargain!
Bought this and X570 during the flash sale. Missed out on Dell 27".
Ironically nothing from Amazon today :p

I agree with the sentiment that 3600 price will be stable as AMD wants to differentiate from 'value' segment… IMO not the best strategy but I can understand why they are going this way.

  • Would this do a 3080 justice? I have to upgrade my motherboard anyway so I have no idea what to do. New series will probably be overkill…

    • If you're 4k gaming (or maybe even 1440p gaming), a 3600 is fine

      • Awesome, thanks. So hard to tell whether to buy the latest of something or just go half way and hope it all ages well together.

Hardware unboxed just put out a good video paring the 3600 and 3080.

  • Did not observe the DT in AEDT and missed out… I hate DT.

  • Just to report it hasn't shipped yet.

  • Got mine delivered today.

  • Nice find OP
