iPhone 11 128GB $1079 + Shipping ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi or Apple Store

901

All colours available. I actually price matched at OfficeWorks for $1025 in black. There is only black and green at Officeworks. The price seems reasonable when you factor in years of use. I put it down to approximately $250 a year.

The 64GB model is at $999 at JB HIFI, but price match can bring it in for less if you want the 64GB model.

Same price at Apple Store

        • Crazy, no wonder people are moving to Gumtree. Good on you for sticking it to eBay though!

          • @ak47wong: You can post your gumtree ad to eBay and pay no eBay fee for up to 2 ads per month.

The genius of Apple. Keep sticking 5w chargers then argue they won't include it moving forwards so it's not a big loss. For the price you're paying, the quicker charger should be included, not the 5w charger and definitely not no chargers.

If they reduce the price, sure, but why would Apple do that, they're not dumb lol

    • Realistically they might have reduced the price over what they would charge, no one really knows. They will make a lot more money not including them than the benefit people got out of them. Wireless chargers have been a thing since the iPhone 8 and there's been 8 years of Lightning cables and 5w chargers. Sure, I could do with another 18w charger, but if the choice was a 5w USB-A charger and cable that will live in a drawer, or the cable they included, I'd take the cable as it's way more useful, can use it to charge from the Macbook/Macbook Charger, iPad Pro/iPad Pro Charger, many other branded laptops and desktops, third party chargers and a bunch of android ones. You just know if they included an 18w USB-C brick in the box there'd still be people that wouldn't use them and they'd jack the price even more.

Well its there as a spare, that means you dont have to fork out more money for an already expensive phone. Its there for another room. Or if you work in 2 different locations, etc etc.

My argument is the same as above. They've definitely not done it for environmental purposes. They could have upgraded the chargers over the past few years but no they kept the same crappy charger. If they really cared about the environment they wouldn't have kept putting those things in, but put better chargers. They would have a policy of trading in old chargers with new chargers, so people can recycle them. But nope.

It's a cost cutting measure, dressed as an environmentally friendly policy, that some people lap up.

        • +1

They've definitely not done it for environmental purposes.

Honestly, I think this is primarily the reason. I have a dozen chargers and cables that will work and I don't use ANY of them because I only charge via wireless now, unless I'm using the cable they are including to charge via my MacBook. Of course it doesn't hurt that they don't need to ship 95 unused and unloved chargers for every 1 a customer uses. They could have just as easily said 'do your bit for the environment, don't include the charger and get $15 off' and people would somehow accept that more easily, even though it would just mean people that wanted the charger still overpaid.

At scale Apple's previous policy of including chargers that were slower than third party options and less convenient than wireless options generated massive e-waste. Regardless of what you believe their intentions to be, this IS ultimately an environmental benefit, whether the motives were altruistic or not. It's not mentally that hard just to add the price of the charger to the cost when evaluating your purchase decision. Personally I'm not going to upgrade at all, I'm still ok with the X, and that's a decision that's good for the environment and my pocket (and also made primarily for financial reasons).

It's just crazy that people get upset about a $3 charger that almost no one needs or uses being no longer included with a ~$2000 phone. I mean, it's a rounding error. I'd be upset if they snuck it in and it was 'a surprise' and I didn't have a charger already (because they hadn't been producing devices with forwards compatible chargers for 8 years). But now, what am I going to do with it if they put it in? E-Waste. I mean, just for my one phone I've already got 4 wireless charging pads. And that's not to mention the literally more than a dozen other cable combinations I have to charge it. That might not be everyone's situation but Apple are not wrong in that it's pretty common.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: The wireless chargers are paid extra though. People might not want to pay extra. They might only prefer cables because its faster than wireless. And why should people buy wireless chargers when they're paying so much (without discounts). They can argue 5g is expensive, but there are so many products with 5g that are cheaper.

And please chargers are not 3 bucks, it's 30 bucks, and that's not including extra cable (not a suprise) that's another 30 bucks. Sure in the overall scheme of things, 60 bucks is not much when you're spending that much for a phone. But that's my point. For every person that need replacement cable/charger that's extra money for Apple. When if they'd included it, you'd already save 60 bucks.

Hence my argument above. Its not an environmental based policy. If they do, then they would have swapped their poor chargers to better chargers so people don't fork out more money for other chargers.
Its the same as your point above. You are not buying the new iPhone and sticking with your old X, not because you care about the environment. But because of money. You said it yourself up there. Then you justify the decision you dont have money by saying, ah its good for the environment. No that's not how it works lol. That's just a convenient excuse, an add on lol.

Or if they really care about the environment, they would have a charger swap policy (swap slow ones to the newer ones). But no they don't. Let's not even discuss about how airpods can't be fixed and they'll just go to landfill instead of being recyclable. This is just convenience.

Anyway do what you want. Its your money. But hands down this is money grab masked as a green policy so that they look like a responsible company. Sad thing is, every single company will follow. And the loser are us.

            • +1

@mbck: Lets be honest, Apple devices have serious premium over the bill of materials, including the adapter in the box isn't 'free' it's built into the cost you pay. Apple are going to charge the maximum they think people will pay, whether that's all in or made up of components, the fact that some people might not buy a phone if they made the phone + adapter cost too high would definitely be factored into the cost of the ex-adapter SKU.

You're right not $3, but a mere $2.63 for one that has 2 ports. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001050874491.html

I mean, it's pretty fair criticism how much Apple charge for accessories, but no one is being held down and force to pay it.

For every person that need replacement cable/charger that's extra money for Apple. When if they'd included it, you'd already save 60 bucks.

It's a bold assumption that Apple take anywhere near 100% of the sales for replacements. And who's to say if they'd included it the price wouldn't be $60 more for the $49 18 W charger.

That's just a convenient excuse, an add on lol.

You know two things can be true at once right? it's about deciding what is worth it or not. The same decision Apple can justifiably make, as can any of their (potential) customers. More choice is good. Bundling goods you don't want and charging you for them is not.

Anyway do what you want. Its your money.

Yeah, everyone should do this, it's a waste of life to complain about a company doing what a company is legally obligated to do (make money) when the side effect is 'conveniently' good for the environment. Unrepairable products is a perfectly reasonable complaint, as is anti-competitive behaviour with the app store.

Or if they really care about the environment, they would have a charger swap policy (swap slow ones to the newer ones).

This doesn't work, pricing environmental damage is effective at stopping it. A swap program would cost way more than just throwing the charger they're probably paying less than $1 for in the box and wouldn't be nearly as effective. It's like saying buying a car should include all the fuel you need. The reality is that green policies ARE good policies financially. They don't become bad just because they're profitable. They can be both good and profitable. If you want good and unprofitable you need consumers to demand it or governments to regulate it. And the reality is, every company will only follow because the majority of their customers will not care because they already have chargers. The few that care were either never going to buy a premium phone or don't care about the faster charger, or already spent that money on the faster charger anyway.

There's a lot of business practices I don't like with Apple, but I mean please, can we talk about still using proprietary lightning cables over USB-C (a problem customers can't fix for < $3) or something genuinely meaningful rather than a couple of bucks you already knew you were going to have to spend because they made it as clear as possible it wasn't in the box.

Also I'd agree if they don't make it clear to customers buying the product that there's no charger (who might not have seen the news or complaints) that would be something I'd be upset about. A companies responsibility to their customers is to clearly describe the product they're selling so the consumer can make the informed choice about buying or not. The reasons they did what they're bunding how they're bundling or pricing how they're pricing are always going to be opaque, but whether the product is as describe is going to be obvious.

              • @[Deactivated]: "Bundling goods you don't want." I mean who doesn't want an extra charger so they dont have to pay 60 bucks if they break down? What choice are you saying? Spend an extra 60 bucks or not? Because if you're saying spend extra 60 bucks, well you're on ozbargain not ozripoff.

"Buying car and fuel" i can't connect the analogy there. Thats more like buying a phone without a battery comparison.

A swap program will work, because then companies are more inclined to make things recyclable instead of one off products. It also minimise landfill. It also means they can leave the chargers out with their phones. But now you have to buy the faster chargers. These are not examples of good environmental policies from a company.

All im saying re chargers are its not 3 bucks as you said. But they're 60 bucks for charger and cable (ie, not bundling them together). Im not talking about net profit, a customer don't care about that. You're paying an extra 60 bucks not 3 bucks. And the cheap ones, well now you've seen how much profit Apple makes from that 60 bucks, that makes your whole argument moot. Or here's another argument; would people buying a 2k phone want to risk spending 2 bucks on a Chinese made charger? Considering what happened a few years ago?

"And the reality is, every company will only follow because the majority of their customers will not care because they already have chargers. The few that care were either never going to buy a premium phone or don't care about the faster charger, or already spent that money on the faster charger anyway"
Yes you can make this assumptions because you have the data. No it's for them to save money, to save costs. Just like what you said from your earlier comment. That's not about choice. You are justifying your decision by saying it was a financial decision first and foremost (you said primarily). Saving the environment is an afterthought. It's a convenient by-product. If the phone was cheaper, you'd have bought it. But because it's expensive, you hesitated and tell yourself, nah I dont have the money….plus its good to be less consuming products.

Im not talking much about green policies because there is no green policy here at Apple. So I dont know why you talked about good green policies, etc.

You're right though, I've wasted enough time talking about the same thing.

                • +1

Apple literally pay people for their old phones (less than market value) and have robots that tear them down to recover the minerals in them, it's how they get tout the 'recycled materials' in their presentations. And this will probably shock you, but that's also a money making move.

But they're 60 bucks for charger and cable (ie, not bundling them together).

I mean, they are bundling the cable still, and the cable you need for fast charging too. This is way better than the previous models where they bundled it with a cable you couldn't use to connect it to your Macbook etc and you probably didn't have one laying around because they were so new.

If the phone was cheaper, you'd have bought it.

Yeah buddy, nice mind reading skills there. I wouldn't buy it at half the price, the financial decision isn't because I can't afford it, it's because it's literally 0 more use to me than a 3 year old one at the moment because I haven't exactly needed the better features due to the way the world is at the moment. When the world improves and my current phone isn't meeting my needs I'll pay what it costs to get the device I want. It's a bright idea to spend money where it gives you the most enjoyment / utility. I just blew craploads of money in the Prime sale on a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't need, but I'll enjoy more.

Now if the phone was FREE like you want the charger to be, then I'd definitely be in. Hence why free things cause so much damage to the environment.

Yep plenty of time wasted and ZERO time thinking. There's no difference what-so-ever between what they've done and offering you a to use your words a '$60' discount by checking a box saying you don't want a charger on checkout but pricing it at $60 more. Only you'd be in exactly the same situation but it would be 'included'.

You probably railed on for months about the 5c for a plastic bag.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Then you lied earlier and I've wasted more time talking to you. You said the primary reason was financial, its up there lol. So yeah, if the product was cheaper you'd have jumped in like how you are buying random stuff on amazon (because they're kn sale), which you won't have use, hence contributing to more landfill and unnecessary consumption. What you described here is complete opposite of what you initially said, everything is a contradiction lmao.

                    Plastic bag is 15c.

Gosh wow you just love to make random sh!t numbers up.

Ill leave you alone to save you face.

                    Bye

                    • @mbck: You interpreted the word 'financial' to mean 'because I don't have the money' rather than 'because it isn't worth the money to me'.

                      which you won't have use

Again, not even what I said I said to quote what you're referring to "I don't need"

There's a difference between "don't need" and "won't use" putting words right in my mouth, and it's pointless, because I'm some joe on the internet, it's not my environmental credentials that matter, the discussion was about Apple's.

Gosh wow you just love to make random sh!t numbers up.

Back at ya. But also random fantasies about what other people are thinking and their individual motivations, which is just disturbing.

                      Plastic bag is 15c.

Last time I bought one it was 5c. It's been the better part of a decade.

Absolutely agreed, calling it an environmental move is pretty bullshit when they should have just made the iPhone 12 USB-C and scrapped lightning…

          • +1

@starspawn: I mean, have you seen how a marketing department works? This isn't even misleading, it's true. Even if you're absolutely right with 'what they should have done'. But it's not going to be too many more iterations before they release a glass brick with no ports.

Can someone please tell me which adapter would be better and faster for the iphone 12/12pro usb-c to lightning cable

    BlitzWolf® BW-S14 18W Type-C PD3.0 QC3.0 Wall USB Charger AU

    BlitzWolf® BW-S12 27W QC4+ QC4.0 QC3.0 PD Type-C Port AU USB Charger

    https://banggood.app.link/i7lnqoKXyab

Which is better and faster? I’m guessing the S12 27W? The S14 is currently on flash deal for $15.58 and $15.27 without insurance which is 31 cents extra, the S12 27W is $27.47 but you can use coupon code BG9BWS12AU to bring it down to $16.90 without insurance and $17.45 with insurance which is 55 cents extra

I’ve also asked this question on the S12 deal on ozb to get as much help as i can so any advice on which is better would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

You're splashing out a lot of money on a brand new expensive device, why are you skimping out on a cheap charger from overseas?

Buy a proper certified one that you know will work well, won't affect device/battery and AU stock that meets electrical requirements here.

      Don't understand this mentality. $2,000 device but $15 charger…

      • +2

BlitzWolf has pretty good rep with OzBargainer's and their deals are quite popular so not sure that its 'Skimping' simply because its a cheap charger from OS

      • Don't understand this mentality. $2,000 device but $15 charger…

$2,000 device but no proper fast charger included…

        18W one should be sufficient.

        • Most people don't even need the 18W one anyway, their existing one is fine or they're using Qi and don't want to plug it in full stop. Why make everyone pay for a $2020 phone when a $2000 one will do…. Or alternatively, do what I do and don't buy it. 18W is heaps, charging too fast degrades battery life. To the point that Apple actually released a software update to SLOW charging when you do it overnight regularly (additionally so that the battery doesn't hit 100% until just before you wake up because time @ 100% is also damaging).

          • @[Deactivated]:

Most people don't even need the 18W one anyway

Most people don't mind having getting a faster charger.

            their existing one is fine

5W is not fine that was included in many models till last year, or at least 18W is better.

they're using Qi and don't want to plug it in

They probably needed to buy an extra charger that was better than the 5W included. Apple should have included better 18W charger way earlier.

Why make everyone pay for a $2020 phone when a $2000 one will do

I bet the saving doesn't go to consumers. It's $2000 with or without the charger.

18W is heaps, charging too fast degrades battery life.

No 18W is less than average in flagship phones. Many flagship phones include 50W+ charger and even 125W.

charging too fast degrades battery life

18W is not too fast, its average. Been using my sony for 3 years with 18W charger, battery at 95%. No excuse for apple to not able to do that when even sony can.

To the point that Apple actually released a software update to SLOW charging when you do it overnight regularly

That common thing. Do that to 18W charger too. Make it switch between 5W and 18W depending on condition. Not that difficult.

            • +1

              @MagicMushroom:

Many flagship phones include 50W+ charger and even 125W.

You're hilarious, that's more than the 16 inch MacBook Pro. Back to the cave you go. You have no idea what so ever. There's no such phone. Literally the most wattage any phone can suck down is 45W. And the iPhone can't even do half that, no matter how many watts the charger is capable of. Chargers that do more are third party multi-port chargers or designed for high power laptops.

There's lots of things people wouldn't mind for free, but clearly paying for them is a problem for some. The seem to have a vendetta even though there was no chance they were going to change to an Apple device anyway. Most people would prefer to do away with the cable completely, so fast charge via a cable is a step backwards. If you have wireless chargers everywhere you don't need fast charging because you never get low on battery in the first place.

Been using my sony for 3 years with 18W charger, battery at 95%

So just to be clear, you already have an 18W charger, and Apple are bang on that people that want this have already gone out and bought it and you'll be fine using the cable in the box with your existing charger. Sounds about right. But you were never planning to anyway so you're just complaining about something that doesn't affect you because you support 'the other team'.

That common thing. Do that to 18W charger too. Make it switch between 5W and 18W depending on condition. Not that difficult.

I mean, they do already do that, your 18 W charger already slows to the same speed as a 5W charger as the phone gets more charge.

              • @[Deactivated]:

There's no such phone. Literally the most wattage any phone can suck down is 45W.

You were right, fastest right now is 120W on Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, 125W is still in development (as far as I know). 45W is certainly not the maximum.

If you have wireless chargers everywhere you don't need fast charging because you never get low on battery in the first place.

Your phone still needs to be on a pad. There's fast and slow wireless charger too (e.g. 50W vs 5W). You will still get low on the battery if you don't pace on wireless charging device.

you'll be fine using the cable in the box with your existing charger

Doesn't work with mine. It's type A on the charger.

you're just complaining about something that doesn't affect you because you support 'the other team'.

I buy android and iPhones (more iPhones although I'm not a fan of it as you can imagine).

mean, they do already do that, your 18 W charger already slows to the same speed as a 5W charger

Yes exactly! just include the 18W charger already and do some software tweaks to make the battery last as long as 5W charger. 18W charger is bad because it degrades battery is a stupid excuse.

      • you know that all these years, iphone been getting 5W chargers right.. 2k phone, but supplied with 5W chargers.

    • Both would be fine as they both support Apple fast charging through the PD port, though the S14 is only 18w output (15w max if both ports are in use). I have the S6 which is dual usb type-A and it fast charges my XR ok

    • There is a USB PD charger group test indicates the newer generation iPhone is capable to take ~22W. So, the 27W BW-S12 will charge faster than 18W BW-S14. The links to the source below

After being 10years+ of Apple user, I'm finally decided to move away from Apple ecosystem. It is painful but Apple is exploiting this so I have to.

    • How so? I've been an iPad user for a long time but the 11 will be my first Apple phone. Have been weighing up between a S20 FE or Pixel 5 because I'm sick of the slack upgrade policies of everyone else and this seems on par with those (little more expensive but probably longer software support and the A13 is a great chip).

      • +2

Rome doesn't fall in one day. I've been torn for a couple years. Fragmented Android world is still not quite on par with Apple in terms of ecosystem and user experience thanks to Steve Jobs's legacy. However, I somehow feel like I've been hijacked for too long.
Most decisions Apple made in the past three years is purely money driven and rarely focus on the consumer experience. (Apple's product line used to be so simple and cohesive that the world was amazed by it, but now looks at the mess of lighting port etc).

Besides, most innovation is driven by Android now and Apple just waits for it matures a bit and catches up. As an individual, I feel obliged not to reward that behaviour with my money. (yes every vote counts).

    • what will you move to ?

        • I thought 28 days lol. 12 months is very long but its a good thing.

  • Tried unsuccessfully to price beat the 64gb with Officeworks via a phone call. Although the website still states RRP $1179, the call centre said that the price in their system had been updated to $999.

    Dirty tactics.

    • They were lazy not updating their prices soon enough. They should have had to price beat. At least JB Hifi were on the ball.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned here and I can see people crapping on the iPhone 12 release for not including a charging adaptor but if you buy an iPhone 11 today from Apple, you will not receive a charging adaptor in the box, this is confirmed on their website.

Possibly all previous iPhone models on sale will also not include the charging adaptor either.

I mentioned this and got negged for it haha. Grab one from JB if you need the accessories.

    • is it also applicable for iPhone 11 Pro?

Edit - Just check its true for iPhone 11. iPhone 11 Pro is removed from Apple store.

    • What if some stores still have old stock, they would possibly come with charging adaptor?

      • Yes. I picked one up in-store from JB Hifi today and it had the adaptor and earphones. Stock may be harder to find in Officeworks.

        • Great.
          Thanks for the tip.

The new iphone 12 cable is: usbc to lightning!

FFS I don't have an adaptor that can take usbc.. so apple trying to save environment is BS, bcs i still need to get an adaptor (and it's $29 from apple store). Apple is using 'Saving the Environment' to save $29 from each iphone 12 sold.

    • Exactly.
Moreover I also don't have the latest Mac with USB C.
I am still on USB based MacBook with 2015 Model.

USB C is no where in my house.

    Not a deal? new RRP??

  • not much worth an upgrade, the camera is the same, except for the top of the line pro max. the iphone 11 is a perfect buy rn mine going strong since September last year. and the new update with widgets really makes it feel like android, and the amount of safety is crazy on the new update, unlike anything ive seen on any android. for example all apps are blocked access from contacts photos location gps microphone and camera unless you allow access and if you want to upload a picture to an app , you don't have to allow full access, you select the picture and it adds it to a secondary selection tab that only allows access to that image or images. its a different level of security

  • What's the odds the JB warehouse stock is still the old stock with charger?

    • +1

Not sure about warehouse, but the phone I ordered yesterday, arrived today with adapter and ear pods.

  • Best way to get the iPhone 11 as discounted as possible?

With Suncorp I think the best options are 6% on Apple Store gift cards (+$3 delivery) or 7.23% on HN gift cards (+$4 delivery) - with Apple Store gift cards the good thing is that you can purchase any amount you like, whilst with HN you can only buy in increments of $100 or/and $500.

Anyone has tips on how to maximise the bargain?
