6.5% off JB Hi-Fi eGift Cards (Was 5%) @ Reward Gateway (Membership Required)

630

I just received an email from my work's employee benefits program that for this week only the discount on JB eGiftcards has gone up by 1.5% to a total of 6.5%. If your benefits program also uses Reward Gateway then check your special offers, you may be eligible as well.

This is not the best it's been, but JB cards are rarely discounted so you could save a few $$ with this.

T&Cs:

  1. We’re sorry, but we cannot provide refunds for JB Hi-Fi Instant eGift Cards
  2. You can use up to 5 Instant eGift Cards per transactions online and up to 8 in-store
  3. JB Hi-Fi may ask for identification in store when redeeming gifts cards of $500+
  4. JB Hi-Fi Instant eGift Cards cannot be redeemed at JB Direct.
  5. For full Terms & Conditions go to https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Gift-Cards/Gift-Card-Terms-and-Con…
  6. NSW Fair Trading Regulation legislation states that Gift and eGift Cards sold by retailers are required to have a minimum of 3 years validity before expiring. As we take stock of the Gift and eGift Cards in bulk on a specific date – so you can purchase them at a discount – the 3-year validity might not always be exact.
Employee reward programmes are not subject to the 3-year minimum stated above, however, we will endeavour to keep it as close to 3 years as possible to ensure you're experience is not affected.
  7. JB Hi-Fi Instant eGift Card are not redeemable at Sydney International Airport store.

  • Hmm… my internet security did not like that website.

How do you become a member of this program? Is it employment based?

    • yes, like a added benefits/discounts system for its employees

  • i think these guys charge credit card fee tho..

    • Yes they do, have been stung by that before

      • +1

        Yes and it's 0.5%

So the actual discount is 6%

        • i thought it was 1-2%, i guess i might have not paid too much attention previously

@squidz: I just looked up the FAQ and it says the fee will vary:

If you're using a credit card to pay for shopping vouchers or cards on [rewards program name], you may be charged a fee for the transaction. The charge will be displayed to you at the checkout before you complete your purchase, so you will be able to decide if you want to proceed or not. Where possible we remove this fee.

Depending on the type of credit card you use the fee will be different. We recommend using a standard debit or credit card, rather than Amex or Premium Cards.

The fee applied on credit cards is equal to or less than the fee that we are charged by the card processors.

We would love to be able to waive this fee but it is applied by the processors and not by us. Most of our shopping discounts are around 5% - 20%, so the credit card fee should not eat into it significantly. To help you save further we offer free delivery on all vouchers.

@Chazzozz: Normally I use my debit card and they don't charge a surcharge

        • For what type of card do they charge a 0.5 percent surcharge? I only know they charge a 1.5 percent surcharge for an AMEX-issued AMEX card.

          • @WookieMonster: Sorry, there's no way to know until you reach the checkout page, and I don't have an AMEX so I can't test it for you. I've got both a debit Visa and Mastercard, and I don't recall seeing a surcharge previously.

            • @Chazzozz: From my experience, Mastercards don't have a surcharge, Visas do. But it might be more nuanced than that.

              • @Nuggets: my employer does not charge any fees on this platform (Optus)

            • @Chazzozz: Just checked my account:
              NAB debit no surcharge
              NAB Credit 0.5%
              DJ Amex 3.0%

          • @WookieMonster: NAB debit no surcharge
            NAB Credit 0.5%
            DJ Amex 3.0%

      • They charge for some credit cards. My Coles Mastercard has no fee.

I think it's mainly Platinum cards and maybe some others.

    • Pretty sure it is "some" cards! I have used my Westpac Credit Card (Mastercard) to pay for many vouchers for Woolies/Dan's and JB and have not been charged a fee for using my credit card. I do remember when I went to use my AMEX it was going to charge so I just used Westpac CC..

just an FYI at the moment you can't use the gift card as payment for phone sales quotation ( the one you call JB and negotiate price etc). they will send you a link with the offer but the payment page will only have credit card and paypal.

    • Can you negotiate price in store though? Because surely you can use gift cards in store for that.

      • +1

my comment was for phone sales only - mainly for all victorian at the moment.

i am pretty sure we can use the gift card in store or JB online store.

        • Yeah, I had the same problem! Am in VIC and rang to price match but couldn't pay with Gift Card!

          • @xbomber: You can pay with CC or PayPal via the phone sales link they send you and then submit a "sales line gift card redemption" request through the JB website. They'll redeem your gift cards and refund their value back to your original payment method. Takes a few days for the refund to be processed but it's the only way to use gift cards via phone sales for Vic customers.

            • @Huckster: Oh, they didn't tell me that at the time! Hopefully, my next purchase can be done in store :) Thanks!!

  • I just tested buying a $100 Giftcard, it didn't charge me surcharge. I used credit card.

    • Did you check your banking app to see the amount put through, to confirm there was no surcharge. My work portal says that debit cards have no charge, credit cards may have a charge.

      • Sorry. I have to clarify.

I tested buying $100 jb hifi gift card but at the very final checkout page it charges me no surcharge. It says it is applicable, it would show on this final page.

I didnt proceed with the purchase.

However a few weeks ago I bought ebgames gc and it didnt charge me surcharge on my statement.

        • Yeah it usually shows any surcharges at the last page when checking out.

  • I hope there's no limit to the numberof gift cards we can redeem in store. I have around 8 gift cards to redeem a single item.

You can consolidate them into one gift card online I believe? I did use a gift card to buy a gift card before to extend the expiry date.

      • You can only purchase gift card upto a face value of $500. So you need to consolidate in multiples of $500.

That's good to know, thanks! But yeah as wtfnodeal said, you can definitely combine them online into one big e gift card easily enough.

      • thanks, didn't see it above before.

  • Thanks

  • damn just bought TGG at 5% this morning

  • Can someone please tell me how to be eligible to make purchases? Thanks heaps!

    • Your workplace needs to offer it. Then you log in to your employment benefits website to buy the giftcards.

      • Ah what a shame, my company already have their own staff benefits but only offer 4% off JB GC :(

        • +1

          They probably keep the 2.5%

    • Oof.

  • Does this stack with anything? Shopback or anything?

    • It works like a regular gift card so it would depend on whether that payment type is allowed after clicking through. It would be in the T&Cs of your preferred cash back program if certain payment types will not be accepted.

Just a word of warning: JB-HiFi does not accept gift cards for Xbox Series X purchases.

      • On their t&c they can cancel your purchase as they wish. I have confirmed this with the Consumer Protection in WA which means you buy their gift cards at your own risk that they may cancel all your orders and refund your gift card balances. you may just end up with holding the face value of the gift cards forever.

        • I've never had that happen, and I'm confident people will make a huge fuss online if they tried.

  • Did somebody use gift card to purchase iphone in store?
I heard that Jb Hi Fi does not accept gift cards for that.

    • I hope that isn't true.. I have just purchased $2000 worth of gift cards for the new Iphone.

I have no issue using a $500 gift card to purchase the Iphone 11 pro last year in store and pay with CC for the remainder.

I have just looked through their GC T&Cs, couldn't find anything mentioning that.
