Deal Posting Guidelines: Free Multimedia & Content:

There are so many useful free multimedia content (e.g. ebooks, videos, photos, software, apps etc.) and websites out there that if we listed every great one, then we would be inundated with deals. Feel free to discuss any of these in one of our forums. Alternatively, add the freeware to its dedicated free software wiki page – Useful Free Software.

In general, multimedia content that are always free and available to everyone should be posted in the forums, but if something that was not previously free is offered free temporarily or permanently, it qualifies as a deal. In some cases, decisions on whether a post should stay as a deal or be moved to a forum post is at moderators discretion.

Does anyone else feel that 'movements' like BLM are making the gap bigger? It just reinforces the us and them divide mentality.

Of course, I must be racist.

    • +3

Give yourself some credit, with a hot take like that you're at the very least willing to hear out the racists.

      • +5

I think you completely missed his point. Like I said in an earlier comment, it's making a lot of blacks feel like they are being indoctrinated as victims, and that is not a label anyone should have to wear.

        • +1

          "Blacks."
Genuine question; do you think black people, who have faced slavery, segregation etc. for centuries, do not feel the long-lasting effects of those policies today? Do you not think that chattel slavery, meaning that a slave's child is born into slavery as well, prevents the accumulation of wealth over generations leading to black people being much poorer on average compared to their white counterparts? (I believe black people have an average wealth 1/8th that of white people) Do you not think that the toleration of racist attitudes in society means that racists rise to positions of power and the decisions they make are influenced by that racist? Recognising history and reality is not "indoctrinating people as victims." In order to solve a problem, one must first recognise a problem exists. You seemingly want to ignore that that problem even exists

          • +9

@WinstonWithAY: The idea that a movement like BLM "indoctrinates them as victims" is coming directly from many people of colour who are against this whole ideology. The argument they are making is that the movement is almost exclusively made up of affluent white people who are telling them, and anyone else who will listen, that society is 'systemically racist' (not going into that here). The irony here is that you appear to say this is my own point of view. I can see why it would be frustrating for people of colour who are fighting against this exact type of charitable narrative you are mentioning.

Repost from earlier comment: There are much better and more productive ways to address racism if you're serious about it.

            • +1

@wizzlesticks: "Coming directly from many people of colour." Like whom. Most people of colour support BLM anyway so that's a moot point.
Society, particularly American society is founded on racism and racist institutions as I pointed out. The entire economy of the US South was supported by slavery.
"There are much better and more productive ways to address racism if you're serious about it." Like what?

              • +6

@WinstonWithAY: 'Most people of colour support BLM'

That is a very narrow opinion, so I suggest you start Googling so you can make a more informed point of view.

The point here is not even to deny racism exists. You've somehow confused that with my earlier remark about BLM specifically. And I'm not here to lecture you about what you can do to improve attitudes towards racism. Just don't place every point of view in a pigeon hole and, most importantly (ironically), don't presume all black people think like you do.

                • @wizzlesticks: You haven't proved or disproved anything. Most people of colour support BLM, polling shows that. It's a statistical fact. You also haven't said which people of colour are against BLM. Don't make statements if you're not going to back them up with any evidence.

                  • @WinstonWithAY: Like I said, DYOR. I'm not gonna hold your hand and deliver facts you don't want to hear.

    • +2

No. I understand that you can talk about separate issues at a time. If a friend of mine isn't talking about me I don't think they hate me because they are saying something else.

  • +12

These comments show far we've got to go as a society. Imagine getting upset at something like this, and feeling smug like you know all the facts to justify your anger.

    • +5

Agreed. Free PS4 themes, including 'political' ones have been posted before, and without nearly as many negs. There is lot of strong negative feeling that people should be examining…

      • +1

I find it interesting you both mentioned feelings. My downvote is a downvote because this is not a bargain. If you'd like to tell me all the good the movement has brought to the world I think you'd struggle to outweigh the vandalism, destruction, rioting, looting, assult, intimidation and threats carried out by followers of the movement in the name of the movement.

        • Not saying that there can't be legitimate reasons for a neg here, but I do think the total number is disproportionate considering this is not any different in concept to other political PS4 themes.

I'm not here to defend any destructive actions, but it has been studied and found that 93% of the protests have been peaceful and some of the violence is fomented by agitators which makes it hard to make sense of what happens. Overall, I think BLM has some valid arguments. Despite some of the violence in the Hong Kong protests, I also supported their cause too. I don't think it's impossible to vehemently decry some actions whilst recognising any genuine aims. If people disagree on what they think the aims are, that's another matter.

Activism and protest are about changing politics and policy, these are not things that can be done overnight, so I don't think it's a fair comparison yet. Violence is not warranted but as a metric, it's distracting from evaluating the worth of a cause. Many BLM activists are involved in Campaign Zero which aims to change policing systems, practices and funding. Campaign Zero only exists because of BLM but if effective, will have implications for all Americans.

    • +8

Because some people are more interested in real progress. A Playstation theme representing a group with very divisive and questionable tactics to reach 'social justice' is seen by people like myself to create more polarisation. BLM is a classic example of the motte and bailey fallacy.

      • Right.. I'm highly skeptical that people who are here displaying their ire about a freebie on a bargain website are doing so because they think this is the best way to protest Sony and/or think this is the best way to 'real' progress on a highly complex and fraught issue.

        • +1

Challenging the woke neoliberal orthodoxy is a good way to start and that’s what most of the comments are about. It is a complex issue and both sides are manipulative with evidence but you’ve got to start somewhere and confronting a multinational corporation that is capitalising on a questionable movement is a good place to begin. Being anti-BLM doesn’t automatically make you a racist or ignorant.

    • +1

These comments show far we've got to go as a society.

We have come a long way! Having a mostly civil debate.
It shows we have come a long way as a society from the days of throwing spears at one another, or condemning those with different views as heretics, to be banished.
      Well done us!

Sadly, I fear it is going backwards, and the far-left cancel-culture wants to stifle any ideas they might offend someone.

Do a search for free PS4 theme deals and you'll see they are permitted.

      • +3

Wow, I do see some are limited-time deal but many aren't. Typical ozbargain not following their guidelines.

  • +3

Should just stay out if things like this.

Virtue signaling garbage. Wonder what 2021’s new thing will be? Perhaps Kony will make a comeback?

    • Yeah Sony are just acting like they care without doing anything, pure virtue signalling.

      Oh wait
      https://djmag.com/news/sony-music-group-announces-100million…

      • +1

If you did your research correctly you would know that Sony Music Group are not the same as Sony Interactive Enterainment who own Playstation.

        • +3

They're… they're both owned by Sony my friend. What do you want Sony to do, earmark a few million for BLM from every one of their subsidiaries to avoid gotchas like this?

          • +3

@Slakemoth: Perhaps they should, to reimburse some of those innocent business owners for their properties and livelihoods being destroyed by rioting, senseless criminals, breaking a plethora of laws while thinking they are exempt from same.. cos you know, BLM.

            • @handles1: Treat it the same way they treat health: if you don't have insurance? bad luck

            • @handles1: Should the president of the USA reimburse the families of the 220000 people who have died from covid.

              Your argument is rubbish.

              • @doobes: Oh dear. COVID is the Presidents fault? He just went out and gave that to everyone did he? How embarrassing for you. I haven’t seen COVID rioting in the streets and burning everything in sight.

          • +2

@Slakemoth: I'm not your friend, maybe if you weren't so condescending you would realise Sony couldn't give 2 hoots about BLM aside from PR.

      • +1

Considering Sony dodge well over 100m a year in tax, this donation is meaningless.

        • Defintely.

Oh, apart from the 100m the social justice fund gets. Apart from that.

          • @doobes: I’m confused. You do support multinational tax avoidance? Or yes as long as they donate to a fund you agree with?

The NAACP arent exactly the perfect ‘social justice’ fund considering how much they spend on political lobbying which you could easily argue benefits the interests of Sony and other donors rather than those affected by racism.

    • +2

He actually did for a while in 2018 but then they couldn't link it to Trump so the media didn't pick up on it.

      • +1

Well fingers crossed for a strong 2021 push, at least that had great memes!

  • +2

Would there happen to be one of a plain black background with a thin blue horizontal line around across from left to right?

    • +2

I'm pretty sure that is the design of the original PS4.

  • +18

Dear SONY, can I just play the games I bought for good money on the PlayStation that I own? I have no interest in your corporate virtue signalling. Please don’t push political propaganda on me. Thank you.

    • You poor thing, it must be hard going through life as fragile as that. Don't worry, just close your eyes and the big bad woke corporation will get back to feeding your dopamine pathway and you won't have to think about anything.

    • +4

can I just play the games I bought

You could be, but here you are, not playing games because you chose to open something you have no interest in, to complain about it.

    • You can.

Did it download the theme directly onto your PS4?

I have a feeling it didn't and you just came here to show everyone your narrow world view.

  • +2

Hey guys, hot take here, black people, I don't think they're bad people.

  • +7

Corporations nowadays have this toxic habit of milking the “cultural” cow of the moment. Pride month? Every corporation become gay. Civil rights demonstrations / riots revolving around black rights? They suddenly become all black activist. Some rape scandal is trending on social media? Men bad. All rapist. Some pedophile story who didn’t kill himself is trending? Let’s all post “Pedophile guy didn’t kill himself” because you know, the world is too much of a nice place and we all need to be fed with some bad vibe bullshit every now and then.

    • +1

Can I point out Corporations have literally always done this it is not new or anything. They are profit making entities they don't care about your feelings, they just want more money and if chucking rainbows on a bunch of stuff for a month does that, great, easy money. I haven't seen any corporations promoting the last point to do with pedophiles before but I may have missed something.

Does anyone actually see companies stuff like this and go "well damn I guess Sony is a super good guy I think I will buy the ps5". All Sony really gains is contempt from rich people, people who dislike companies jumping on bandwagons and people that dislike the group due to racial differences. the people that support the issues don't give a (profanity) about Sony, and are just keen to see their revolution spreading.

As a bonus I imagine for many of the people involved in these groups having general positive acknowledgment would be really great for them. For members of the LGBT or Black communities I'm sure just seeing other people and groups outside theirs promoting their cause or even just accepting them as a people despite differences is probably a nice feeling. I know I enjoy it when people are supportive of things I do or try. Even if its just people trying to profit off of it they are still accidentally helping the groups that need it.

Not a deal, a theme that is free and has always been free isn't a deal. Should be in the forums with a link to all of the other free themes.

      • +3

That one is also not a deal. Unless the theme was a paid theme that is now being offered for free, it shouldn't be posted as a deal.

It belongs in the forums with a link to all the other free themes that Sony gives away.

  • +11

Bible deals aren't exactly warmly welcomed here and given how BLM and 'anti-racism' have a religious following I think it's only fair this post gets the same treatment.

  • +8

    I support rioting !!! TRUMP 2020

    • +3

Haha, your comment is like an ironic bet each way in so few words.

BLM and if you guys think it's a problem, take a good hard look at yourself

    • +7

Your brain needs to be taken a good hard look at.

    • +7

      But it is a problem

If anything, BLM is promoting racism

    • +1

rather than making a declarative statement, perhaps break down your idea more thoughtfully?

I think there are negative associations with BLM that are beyond redemption.

If I were to make a state that Protest against police brutality it would gather much greater support, this would suggest BLM does not mean the same thing.

  • +5

    Non-sense

  • +11

Nothing like a free theme to out the racist butthurt folks.

Also, it was amazing on social media, to see initial reactions of these folks saying they will get an XBOX only for Xbox to tweet the same! lol!

    • +11

Do you think every one of the 94 downvoters is a racist?

      • +5

I'm not white, so can I even be a racist (according to the new leftist theory, racism = prejudice + power)

        • Anyone can be a racist, no matter the race / skin colour.

          • @El Psy Kongroo: You may not be well aware of the current cultural war, but this is often the new definition of racism (almost exclusively used by the progressive left).

I refer you to the wiki article to provide your with some context:
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prejudice_plus_power

As you note, the above is posed as a question (although I didn't make it obvious with the usual ? at the end).

It was used to criticise such notion as constantly implied within this thread. If you look through honestly you will see it's littered with accusation of racism and the implication that anyone voted negative are racist and white. So I was offering a counter and drawing attention to a bystander of the absurdity of this line of thought. Clearly you agree that anyone can be racist, although your unfamiliarity of this new definition may have obscured my intent.

    • +5

Intellectually corrupt. You know exactly what you are doing, slandering good people because they don't agree with you.

  • +5

Great way to support the BLM movement… By downloading a theme for your ps4 which noone other than yourself will probably ever see haha

    • We all saw it…. LOL.

  • +10

Lol I had no idea Ozbargain was so full of racists…

    • +6

I think you're missing the point. Most downvoters are not agreeing with BLM ideology or organisation

      https://mobile.twitter.com/news_ntd/status/13176593987146752…

      • +3

        I knew it.
This guy thinks gets his "Facts" from a site that is not even attempting to hide how utterly biased and stark raving mad they are.
        Nothing but unabashed propaganda.

        • You have problem with contents from NTD News?

      • Exactly. Most racists disagree with the ideology and organisation of equal rights and treatment.

      • Although a terrible source, the only link is that it uses a Chinese website for donation. Otherwise there are many attacks on the religious or political beliefs to discredit the movement. At its core, its simply to bring attention to police violence to black people. That's it.

    • Oh there are are plenty of racists and trolls on Ozbargain. I've been bookmarking them since covid started and I got a full-page list of them.

      • Make sure you hand that list over to the supreme lefty leader when he comes into power ok bud?

      • trolling or serious?
