  • THis model is very old.

    First gen i7
    and a Crappy GPU

This isnt the same as previous deals with Sandybridge / ATi 6770m

  • 1st gen i7, 5400rpm hard disk, and a poor graphics card. i bought my laptop over a year ago here, and its still a better deal (well maybe not, but only just)

Very very old model (early 2010). None the less, the speed is equivalent to a current gen i5 so it's an 'okay' deal due to the addition of a bluray burner. However, it is a very inefficient notebook when comes to power consumption. Not to mention the underwhelming battery (due to the 45W CPU and non-switchable GPU) of only 2hours (if lucky).

  • old..

    1st Gen i7? GT 230M? USB2.0 (not USB3.0?)

won't neg, but it's not a very good deal tho…

old but quad core CPU, 1GB Graphics, bluray burner and TV tuner makes this a really good portable HTPC.

    • spawnpoint I have this laptop for over 1.5 years now I purchased it for $1300, it is a mini heater and cpu temp is over 85 degree most of the time I have seen it reach 97 on hot days.

It has poor battery life but for approx $700 it is a good deal if you combine all the stuff like bluray burner, tv tuner, i7, 56kbps modem (in case NBN falls apart and we have to go to dial up :()

The only reasons why you would want to buy this would be because it has a:

    • Bluray Burner
    • Express Card slot
    • Firewire port (for those camcorders who still use them)
    • Or you simply just like the design
    • Or the fact that it's a vintage model (great if you're a notebook collector…)

Having said that, there are a lot of reports on whirlpool about a batch of DV6-2119TX with faulty chipsets that kicks in after a certain amount of time causing a BSOD - this is probably the reason why this model got replaced so soon after it's release.

HP seems ambivalent to it's hardware production. It's one thing to have features, but, the build quality is consistently poor.

Despite some good business machines in the past, HP is just not worth the risk, in my opinion: I was very unimpressed by the proliant server special being cancelled. / I've heard very bad things about HP customer service. / The company doesn't seem to be adapting well to current conditions - with legal battles within the board, and sudden changes of heart regarding pc business and tab business.

If HP appeals to you, you're better off going with Lenovo business lines, or Acer. Or even Dell. (or just come to your senses, and buy an Asus.)

Fully agree about the build quality but Asus has stopped building value for money machines since last year. I bought my 16.3" Asus with 5730M graphics card and i-520M processor for little over $1300 but the equivalent specced machine in 2011 is more around $1600-$1700 where is difference is only $300 but that could buy me an SSD, a gaming mouse and a razer keyboard.

Asus still remains ahead of the herd in terms of build quality but they are now increasing the price without increasing the value. The market where HP/Acer/Dell have captured on is the value/budget market while Asus is only expanding the G/N/U series and forgetting about the rest.

  • Terrible deal….

I would happily pay $499 for this, not much more.

Are MLN deals starting to ….um….cr4p out?
