You can try stacking with referrals for an extra $25 credit, but you will have to share personal information with an existing SpinTel customer. According to alvian, you can supply any name, email or phone number, it's just the unique referral code generated that needs to be provided on signup.

Update from CheapoJohnno — SpinTel changed its referral bonus and only Referers get $50 bonus for signing up their mates to Mobile and Fibre. New SpinTel customers get nothing.

For comparison with other deals:

• The 25/5 and 50/20 plans are on par with Tangerine's offerings. Tangerine also offer $25 credit from referrals and have a 14 day "risk free trial". SpinTel list slightly higher typical evening speeds and are cheaper by 90 cents per month ($5.40 total over 6 months).

• Belong offer 30mbps download for $55 on a 12 month contract. Price increases to no contract price of $60 if you do not renew contract before the 12 months are up. $20 credit from referrals. Plan is based on NBN 50/20 and artificially limited to 30mbps. Most users report having much better uploads than any 25/5 plan and regard this as one of the best value sweet spots for NBN if 25/5 is just about right or slightly too slow for your needs. Customer service is apparently poor and there is a greater emphasis on self service. Belong is owned by Telstra and is aimed at providing better value plans.

• If your needs are meagre, this is the cheapest unlimited 12/1 deal around. Only other telco that comes close is Flip Connect's $42.90 12/1 plan for seniors only.
