SpinTel Unlimited nbn 12/1 $39/Month, 25/5 $49/Month, 50/20 $59/Month (for First 6 Months)

791

Hidden link from WhistleOut exclusive leads to the page linked in the deal. You won't find this on their normal NBN page.

12/1 is $39 per month, down $10.95 from the normal price of $49.95.
25/5 is $49, down $10.95 from $59.95.
50/20 is $59, down $5.95 from $64.95.

All honeymoon rates for 6 months. No contract or any setup fees if you choose BYO networking hardware.

You can try stacking with referrals for an extra $25 credit, but you will have to share personal information with an existing SpinTel customer. According to alvian, you can supply any name, email or phone number, it's just the unique referral code generated that needs to be provided on signup.

Update from CheapoJohnno — SpinTel changed its referral bonus and only Referers get $50 bonus for signing up their mates to Mobile and Fibre. New SpinTel customers get nothing.

For comparison with other deals:

  • The 25/5 and 50/20 plans are on par with Tangerine's offerings. Tangerine also offer $25 credit from referrals and have a 14 day "risk free trial". SpinTel list slightly higher typical evening speeds and are cheaper by 90 cents per month ($5.40 total over 6 months).

  • Belong offer 30mbps download for $55 on a 12 month contract. Price increases to no contract price of $60 if you do not renew contract before the 12 months are up. $20 credit from referrals. Plan is based on NBN 50/20 and artificially limited to 30mbps. Most users report having much better uploads than any 25/5 plan and regard this as one of the best value sweet spots for NBN if 25/5 is just about right or slightly too slow for your needs. Customer service is apparently poor and there is a greater emphasis on self service. Belong is owned by Telstra and is aimed at providing better value plans.

  • If your needs are meagre, this is the cheapest unlimited 12/1 deal around. Only other telco that comes close is Flip Connect's $42.90 12/1 plan for seniors only.

  • but you will have to share personal information with an existing SpinTel customer

No, you won't. Despite what SpinTel wants on its referral page, an existing customer can generate a referral code for any fictitious name, e-mail or mobile number and send the code to you via OzB's private message system. The unique referral code is all that is required to match the referrer with the referee.

12/1 shouldn't really be advertised. Especially if your area is after 18 months of the RFS date of the POTS.

    • +2

Disagree. I have 12/1, and for web browsing with three people in the house, it's fine. We never have more than one person gaming or streaming at a time. Plenty of one-person households in Australia too.

      • -1

Tell that to NBNCo we don't need NBN then.

        https://www.nbnco.com.au/corporate-information/about-nbn-co/…

        Min 25Mbps after coex.

        • +1

No, we do need NBN. Was previously on 3-6Mbps ADSL2 (depending on how much rainwater was filling the pits), in inner-city Brisbane. Sometimes dropped out altogether. Literally the very farthest street from the exchange, in that exchange's area. About 3.5km to the exchange as the crow flies, so I was lucky to get that high a speed.

If I need to work from home by remote desktop, I will increase the speed. Can't do that with ADSL2.

          • -2

@Russ: Your 12/1 would be saturated with more than doing one thing at a time.

Cheaper to join a 4G plan maybe.

            • @Turd:

Your 12/1 would be saturated with more than doing one thing at a time.

Hasn't been a problem in the last year, with three people browsing, or one streaming and two browsing.

Cheaper to join a 4G plan maybe.

Monthly usage about 400GB. Currently on $45/month for unlimited 12/1, with FlipConnect. For new users it is about $1 more expensive.

i was on their 12/1 plan for 10 months into my 18 month contract before i noticed they'd quietly dropped it from their nbn page. 25/5 was now being offered for the monthly price i was paying. sent in a request to upgrade my speed for no extra cost and they did it the next month. 12/1 was good enough for my needs/budget at the time but i'm rather annoyed they kept quiet about the changes, hoping their current customers wouldn't notice.

    • +3

Needs to be a consumer law regarding this because telcoms already make enough money, no need to rip off people for their loyalty.

      • +2

Can't see that happening. Otherwise it would already have happened for something like the energy and gas sector. That industry is purely based off of lazy people paying the lazy tax subsidising the deals for the people who do shop around.

It is even worse than telecommunications, given that people of all ages require electricity (and gas, depending on their residence). Can you imagine the stereotypical old person (or just a not old person with a busy life) spending so much time scouring for the best deals?

Pensioner discounts/rebates are just a bandaid solution.

You can try making a submission to the ACCC and see if Rod Sims agrees with you.

  • I think this link was also sent out to existing spintel customers who might be moving away (like me ending the 4G home wifi plan)

    Thanks for posting the link.

  • This is nearly going to tempt me to get NBN instead of just using mobile data.

But if I need only about 10GB per month for just myself, I don't think any NBN plan can compete with the mobile offerings?

Currently using the Kogan Mobile $5 per 20GB.

Looking to switch to Catch Connect when it ends, for $10 per 10GB. Or Lebara has a $20 per 20GB option.

    • I shared 480gb on Optus happily across the family and a 4g modem for two years and got home internet speeds of 80mbps. Unfortunately Optus has terrible reception at my new house so had to slowly cancel the services.

I now have NBN and it drops out 4-5 times a day (often during important meetings). I had to spend extra on my new laptop to get a 4g sim slot so have it as back up now. NBN is rubbish!

      • Who is your nbn provider? What type of nbn connection do you have?

      • +1

You need to talk to your NBN provider or switch and see if it helps.
I was with Aussie broadband for 6 months. Rock solid connection. 0 dropouts. Moved to superloop and immidiately started getting around 2-3 dropouts/reconnects every day for 6 months. Moved to Tangerine last month. Rock solid so far with no dropouts.

      • +1

Sounds like you are on Abbott's 'no one needs more than 25mbps' ancient copper network. If you are on FTTP, then that is definitely an ISP issue. I have had an uptime of over 500 days with no dropouts on that Optus connection (moved houses otherwise it would have been up longer).
As bashar stated, call you ISP and complain, but unless they can see you drop out more than 10 times a day, NBN consider that acceptable for a FTTN connection.

        • +1

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. It's only for a few mins so other than Teams meetings its not an issue. But it's a big deal when you are leading a Teams meeting and you drop!

      https://www.tpg.com.au/nbn

TPG has a $29.99 plan with 10GB data. Shaped to 32kbps after used (so practically unusable)

If you sign up for a no lock-in contract then they charge a $109.95 set up fee otherwise if you're willing to lock in for 6 months the set up fee is just $10. The reason why they have these setup fees is because they include a modem with every service.

      • 600% more expensive than Kogan Mobile per GB.

  • Does anyone know what type of connection they use? Is it DHC?

    • PPPoE.

  • tangerine is much more intelligent service interaction. spintel was frustrating, getting your point across pedantically. I moved from spintel to tangerine and their service ranks would be 1to spintel vs 5 for tangerine.

  • Currently on Tangerine 25/5. I've run out of my 6month rates; but I still don't want to swap over because I've had too many troubles switiching telco's over the years that the trouble (and probably downtime) just isn't worth the savings (unfortunately).

  • -3

eventually it will come a time when 5G is popular and affordable => end of wired connections

    • did your year 9 IT teacher tell you that?

  • Used to be with spintel adsl2 for 3-4 years. Customer Service and speed degraded for the last 1.5 years i was with them. Not sure about their nbn. I'm currently with Belong. Not the greatest but manageable.

  • I have used both Spintel and Tangerine in the past. Spintel used to be decent but all that changed when they switched to Vocus as their provider. Tangerine also use Vocus.
I don't know what they use now but I'm glad I'm not their customer anymore.

    • Tangerine is still Vocus

  • How is 12/1 still not a joke in 2020? 12/1 is ADSL speed

    • worse than in some cases depending on the distance to your local exchange .. it shouldn't exist as a plan.

    • My ADSL2 is faster than that.

    • and they call it NBN when its 12/1. funny

    • 12/1 is ADSL speed

For maybe 10% of the population it was ADSL speed. Average ADSL2 line speed was 8Mbps across Australia, before NBN.

Up to a year ago, my ADSL2 was 3-6Mbps in inner-city Brisbane, depending on how rainy it was. Now on reliable unlimited 12/1 NBN, for lower monthly cost than I was previously paying for ADSL2 plus landline phone.

And I find 12/1 is fine for me and my family. No problems with speed.

  • What about Internode ? Thinking to jump ship

    • Don't bother. Check whirlpool first. AussieBB or Superloop.

    • Internode aren't that good any more.

  • +1

Any way to get this for existing customers?

  • I was really keen on joining with belong nbn. But there is no way of signing up without getting their modem. That's a real deal breaker for me. In the end, I choose mates.

    • Isnt the modem free on their 1 yr plan?

      • Yes. But you will be contracted to them for a year.

  • I was with spin moved to abb, Spintel send you all over the place, one trace showed Singapore then Germany then USA before it got back, Escape from Tacov was unplayable, with 300+ pings, ABB 10+ pings

  • +1

The $46 plan with Vodafone is better than this 12/1. Subject to Vodafone coverage.

    Reasons:
    1. You get the Galaxy A11 mobile phone.
    2. First 100gb is at full Vodafone 4G speed per month.
    3. Unlimited data.

The only negative is that it's 10 down after 100gb vs 12 on NBN. Which IMO is very marginal.

  • Guy what to choose for 50mb nbn

superloop with the $10 off for 6mths referral code on here

      • I was with Superloop last year and it doesn't allow me to use the code. Will the referral code can be used for past customer ?

        • I believe you need to have been away for 6mths or more
          just give them a call

      • I'm with superloop but experienced very frequent drop offs. I'm now looking to move away.

        • That sounds like an NBN issue, not an ISP issue.

        • have you called Superloop about the problem? They are usually good at investigating and trying to resolve with nbn etc

        • call em but if no result; move on and see whether that helps.

@Naigrabzo: I have. they asked me to reset my router then they can't help me to connect to Internet. Took me many hours afterwards to DIY to get back on Internet…

@jv: ugh. that was worse than being rick-rolled lol

              • @tdw: So I just logged into my spintel account and it seems they have removed majority of referral credits including the $25 one for NBN, can you confirm?

                https://imgur.com/a/esaNhXv

                • @CheapoJohnno: yep that's what i see as well. but i've only checked out that section once or twice since June 2019 so can't remember what other types of credits they had :\

                  • +1

@tdw: They use to have 8 different ones which are still listed here on ozbargain, I wonder if "fibre" now means NBN or something else.. Very confusing when they used to actually list "NBN".

@tdw: Looks like there is not much point for people to use others referrals any more.. :/

                            Reply from chat:

I have confirmed that the referral credit has been recently updated. If you are going to refer a friend, then you will have the $50.00 referral credit for the NBN and mobile service. Only you can have the referral credit.

The referee will not get any referral credit only the referrer.

                            • @CheapoJohnno: thanks for confirming.

well that sucks. referrals are only good when both parties benefit, not just the referrer.

    • +1

I can help with code if anyone still wants on.. Been with Spintel for about 6 months so far - no probs..

      • Can I have a code?

        • Shoot me a message with your name and mobile No. or e-mail. I have to send that to Spintel to the code for ya.

  • Pretty happy with my Belong NBN starter package. 50/20 plan capped at 35/20 for $55 per month and +$100 of Belong mobile credit and then also +$140 of Broadband credit through referrals AND a static IP address.

If you can handle the shitty customer support and wait a bit longer than necessary to get connected, there's savings to be had.

Note: Some people never get capped so stick with 50/20, also most new connections go on CGNAT which isn't an issue for the average consumer.

    • Do Belong do any nbn/mobile bundle deals?

      • +1

I don't believe so, I'm just taking my free 4 months with Belong Mobile (10gb-$25 plan) and then will port to another provider. Their mobile plans aren't that competitive or appealing.

        • Thanks…

Do you know anyone who does a good bundle price for NBN/Mobile?

          • @jv: NBN and mobile bundles have gone the way of the dodo. Vodafone and Tangerine still do bundles.

  • I saw the news that in Dec, NBN Co will reduce the fees to allow ISP to also reduce the fees to us to entice us going with higher speed. Not sure is this gonna affect the price for 50/20. And if we sign up now and in Dec, Spintel reduce the fee, will we also get it ?

    • I'm assuming you're referring to NBN's Focus on Fast campaign.

They're offering additional CVC and temporarily reducing the prices for 100/40, 250/25 and 1000/50 to encourage more people to try out higher speed plans, get used to it and not be able to live without it so they will be more willing to pay the higher price after the discount period.

They've already successfully pulled this off when they temporarily made 50/20 plans around the same cost as 25/5. Most people were not willing to drop down to 12/1 and ISPs did not see the point of advertising 25/5 when 50/20 plans were effectively the same cost. Lots of people tried it out, liked it and stuck with it after the discount period was over.

The only "permanent" change is for 12/1.

The wholesale price of the 12/1 Mbps mELB will be reduced from $27.40 to $26.60 in October 2020, followed by further proposed reductions under WBA4 in December to $24.70, and a final reduction in May 2021 to $22.50.

This was likely in consultation with the ACCC and other similar organisations that raised concerns about the affordability of bottom tier NBN plans for poor people. However, I doubt all of the savings will be passed from onto the consumer, because NBN margins are already very thin. A lot of ISPs will probably pocket at least some of the difference for themselves.

  • Doesn't look like spintel provides any 100mbps plans, or am I missing something?

  • Can we schedule the future connection date ? If anyone can pm me their code in the exchange of using my 86400 code, that will be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    • i wasn't able to schedule mine. they pretty much put the request in with NBN co., telling me to be home on a certain date and between certain times and that was that. tried changing the date but was told it could delay the installation by a few weeks. so there wasn't much flexibility.

  • Some people seem to have NBN 50 plan for $65 per month from Optus.

Any idea how to get NBN 50 from Optus at $65 instead of $80 per month

    • I'm still on Optus Cable close to 50Mbps unlimited data for $60. The Optus NBN letter I received says "Prefer your existing plan? Talk to us today about whether you can keep your current plan on Optus nbn if it suits you netter."

Worst company to deal with, for customer service. Buy at your own risk.

    • +3

      Worst company to deal with

No way are they worse than Telstra to deal with.

      • +1

Well they are. Several times I had issues with billing and every call ended with them yelling or getting angry at me, with me telling them to calm down lol. Finally it was resolved through TIO.
Never had anyone at Telstra or any other company rep yell at me, which shows how poorly are Spintel people trained.

Spintel is somewhat cheaper yes, but it’s a great price to pay once you have issues.

        • +3

          Well they are.

          Impossible…

and every call ended with them yelling or getting angry at me

At lease you can talk to a real person…

          • +1

@jv: Personally, I would absolutely rate SpinTel worse than Telstra, based on my experience with both. (See below for my experience with SpinTel…)

    • +1

Totally agree , not one of the worst teleco, it is the worst ,definitely!

For those who are in doubt, refer to the Productreview.com, you will find more than one thousand angry clients and the Spintel doesn't care!

  • I can't UNrecommend SpinTel enough.

I switched from my ADSL to SpinTel's 50 plan, and they were unable to reliably deliver anything close to their claimed speed of 40Mb/s. Sometimes it was actually slower than good old ADSL1, and on occasion I clocked it going at dialup speeds.

After complaining regularly for a month while racking up connection-speed stats records, I threatened to go to the TIO. SpinTel whined that I was being unfair "but we haven't even escalated this; you can't take us to TIO without giving us a chance to escalate!", at which point I exclaimed "wait, I've been complaining about this for a month and you haven't even escalated it?!".

Soon after, they cancelled the contract with no early-termination fee. They even let me keep the $69 credit that I spent on the modem. (I told them that while there was no way I was paying an early-termination fee for a service they were clearly unable to supply, I was still happy to pay for the modem, but they said I could keep the credit; probably the least they could do for messing me around for so long…)

Anyway, I was so worried that my slow connection was due to the local HFC network in my suburb, but I switched to Mate's 100Mb/s plan and it has been rock-solid at 80-90Mb/s since. So clearly nothing to do with HFC, and everything to do with SpinTel's inadequate network as far as I'm concerned…

(Funny story: I actually didn't disconnect my ADSL when I first set up SpinTel; because ADSL and HFC are on different infrastructure, I was able to keep the ADSL connection; just as well, because when COVID hit I was unable to rely on the SpinTel NBN connection to work from home, but the ADSL was just fine… I finally disconnected the ADSL just after switching to Mate when it became clear to me that they were better than SpinTel.)

    • May I have a referral code?

      • Hi, I could give it to you. Can I PM you ? You need to allow PM in your account please.

  • How long we have to wait before we can transfer to Spintel ? Anyone knows ?

  • Tempting. Would the 50/20 plan be sufficient for 4K video streaming and netflix? I'd also be looking to game competitively, though I'm no pro gamer so simply after serviceable ping (to my apartment in the Gold Coast).

  • can u confirm what date is this offer till? i need to churn away from my current supplier at month end

  • whats the price of 100/20?

  • So long story short, is it worth the signup for this 50/20 or should i just find another alternative? im about to move in to a new place next month.

    • Just try it for a month, Mate and if it does not work, move to other. My first month is good and no difference in speed with ABB.

      • Alright, thanks,

can i ask for your referral code?

  • When you sign up for a new service, does the connection with the previous provider gets terminated automatically for billing purpose? OR do you need to manually request them to disconnect? If so, can they disconnect immediately or is there any minimum notice period generally?

    • with spintel, you need to request and give them 30 days notice. i don't know about every other provider out there; you'll have to read your contract's conditions.
