Not sure why you were downvoted. Zeos does a pretty good job at explaining why the M40x are better, and he's not the only one.
I made the mistake of buying the M50x when they went on sale at JB a few months ago, because I wanted to know what all the hype was about. Lets just say I wasn't impressed. In my opinion, comfort and sound quality are average at best. The only things I liked about them are the build quality, and they come with three different detachable cables.
In terms of sound, I much prefer the Creative Aurvana Live!. Even my $40 Blon BL-03 IEMs blow them out of the water.
Yeah, M50's are just all hype machine. Like the people who use beats and act superior.

990's weak spot is fixed cable - but it's so well-loved, there are mod kits for it.
be sure however you check the IMPEDANCE (Ohm) of what you get. High impedance (250's) may not be able to be driven by portable devices (most have a limit of 80 ohm).
