It's not the cheapest it's been been but less than a dollar more than the previous deal a couple of years ago dated the 3rd of December 2018 at $60.97. The price has been hovering around the $96 mark recently and up to a max of $114. Can be adjusted from feet to metres (metric). Very good price for a 50m laser measurer imo. At Bunnings you would be paying $59 for a Bosch 20m Zamo III Laser measurer. Not too sure when the deal will end, it all depends on Amazon's algorithm.

It's not as long as your friend thinks it is.

    • Not that I know of. These laser measurers are supposed to have 1-2mm accuracy, so they usually display 3 decimal places instead of rounding off automatically.

        • Just round it up yourself + 10% contingency. You don't need to show the client each measurement

i just bought one of these things… these are so handy i wished i got one of these years ago and im just a diy'er

i wished i got one of these years ago and im just a diy'er

Should have made your own then ;)

  • Question!
Will this Laser Distance Measure definitely switch to IMPERIAL to METRIC??

    • +56

Yes. This is from the manual:
      1. Switch off the measuring tool.
      2. Press the measuring button and hold it down.
      3. The display will alternately show three units of measure.
When the desired setting is displayed, release the measuring button

      Manual

      • Thanks kindly.

    • I have one of these. It does metric.

  • Can this measures square meters?

    • +1

      ^ Yes; see above

    • +2

Yes square area only (in both sq meters and sq ft) but not volume

    • thanks guys

I’ve got an Ozito and a tiny Xiaomi one. I had to buy this one today, to make sure the other 2 are accurate 🤷‍♂️

        • +2

And how would you know, if all the three scales are showing the same wrong value?

Tip: May be you need another one?

        • You will have to update us all on the accuracy of the cheapies when your Bosch arrives

          • @lestat87: Bosch arrived today. A bit disappointed with the looks, screen and especially with lack of functions.
It only offers change of units, single measurement and area measurement. Only 2 lines of measurement, 3rd line is the area.Only measures from base of device.Measures up to 50m
LS-1S can display up to the last 4 measurements, max-min, and measurement from top or base of the device.Much smaller(very bright screen but small letters), rechargeable(via usb) battery. Up to 40m
Ozito has similar dimensions with the Bosch, displays only 2 measurements or 1 measurement plus the area or volume, min-max, measurement from base or top and has the biggest display. Measures up to 25m

            Accuracy test PASSED :)
            Bosch random measurement: 1.953m
            Ozito same measurement: 1.955m
            LS-1s same measurement: 1.954m

I know it's quite a different device, but I recently purchased this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001321519968.html?spm=a2…

I've only used it a couple of times, but I'm happy with it so far. It seems to measure distances quite accurately.
It is $20 more than the one listed here, plus it's only 40m, not 50m and obviously a no-name Chinese brand as opposed to quality Bosch, but given that it is also a stud finder, I prefer it. It has a lot of options for measuring areas and the like as well.

Definitely not for everyone, but I thought some people that are considering getting laser measure might be interested.

    • That seems pretty full featured. Nice find. I wonder how accurate it is. Are you in a trade that could utilise it often enough or was it just for home handyman use?

      • I renovated a house that my tenant trashed.
New everything. Only got this towards the end of the reno though.

    • +8

Thanks for the link. The stud finding feature is super important for me to be able to make dad jokes.

  • +1

Presumably defaults to feet. When the unit of measure setting is changed to metres, does that persist when subsequently powered on? Manual seems to imply it but not 100% clear.

    • +9

Yes, the settings are saved even when you turn it off

      • Thanks.

      • That's good. I don't want to ever be reminded of the king's feet. We are moving to Republic ;)
Joking. I come from Europe, never used imperial, nor I want to waste time constantly converting. I prefer standards & less stubbornness.

Key in mind, not sure of this model, but ones i have owned don't measure well outside. This is primarily for indoor use

… and for night time use?

Nice find OP. I've been waiting to get one ever since all these property measuring dudes coming in to do floor plans with these.

Now I can do that myself

    • You'll have the best measured house in the world

Then you'll realise you don't and you'll go buy a point cloud device for a fortune.

    • Note that this model lacks Bluetooth, and as such can't leverage the Bosch app which will create plans based on your measurements. Almost bough if not for that feature. If someone knows more about it would be happy to hear from them

  • +1

For someone that isn't in construction … any other reason why one would buy this ?

    • +3

another gadget to have, no need to use bloody tape measurer for furniture and distance to TV, sofa, lawn size etc

    • the cats love it, not joking

    • My work is leasing rooms for business(health sector). I’m measuring rooms almost every week

  • Probably a dumb question. But it says on the product page it can only measure area not volume.

So was wondering if this can measure height accurately?

    • There's an internal function that allows you to calculate area. It will prompt you to measure length and width. You can still calculate the height but you will need Area x Height to calculate your volume manually

  • Nice find. Moving house soon and might need want something like that… Bought it.

  • I bought one of these Chinese clones many years ago and still one of my best Aliexpress purchases:

    https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKaTW1x

    • After looking as some youtube reviews of teh Bosch one I think that Chinese clone one looks better!

  • My ipad Pro measures stuff but I don't trust it enough to use without measuring myself, which makes it kinda redundant. I don't know if I'd feel the same using one of these

    • +1

Well, yes, this is basically the same as a single point lidar, as I understand it.
Can't wait for lidar to become standard in phones (especially android ones)!

  • For the tradies out there how does this compare to other laser measures?

  • Anyone know how this thing would go outside measuring the distance to a tree?

    • Depends how far away the tree is.

    • Yes it depends on how far the tree is, and you may need it to do it at a darker time for example in the evening to see the laser

Thanks for finding my dad a birthday present for me!

    Don't need it. Bought it.

  • price now $101.09

  • Seller copped a bit of a beating in the feedback https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/seller/at-a-glance.html/re…
24% negative in the last 90 days… it could be shipping related issues which is understandable with lockdowns. Is this stuff worth paying attention to like with ebay?

    • This was being shipped by Amazon US. Now that it is out of stock or because of the price change, it is now being sold by Burunduk LLC. No problems with Amazon US, but I wouldn't buy from a seller like Burunduk LLC

  • Admin please mark as "Expired". Deal has gone up to $101.09 now

  • So is this Bosch better than ATuMan LS-1?

    • The Bosch is a better size, the LS's I find too small for practical use.
Bosch has continuous measurement, LS-1 doesn't but LS-1S does. LS-P can calculate extra stuff for you, volumes, Pythagorean etc like the higher end Bosch models.
Something like the DTAPE is a good option, right size, all the features of the LS-P and cheaper than the Bosch.

You made it sound like this Bosch is not a good deal at all now lol

  • Price is now $59.72, but delivery not until January.

Really don't know whether to pull the trigger or not. Dang it I will.

  • it’s available again at $59.68 but delivery might take a while, now showing as early to mid December

  • Go it today it's pretty good
