I've been keeping an eye on the cricut maker for my wife and a couple of days ago noticed Amazon had the cricut maker for $585.32 which is currently less than spotlight's $640.

Only problem will be the US supplied power supply, anyone own one that can confirm if the power supply is a 100-220v transformer and all thats required is either an adaptor or an au figure 8 power cable?

    I can confirm it is a switching adaptor 100-240V-50/60Hz, 1.5A - using a figure 8 cable
    (At least my maker that came from Costco Australia is….I assume that the US one is the same)

      This is a baby version of it. The maker is the top of the range and can take a variety of blades/attachments including engraving, deep cut blades, embossing. It can cut up to 3mm deep. The joy only has the basic cutting blade and pens. It has the convenience of portability and if you use the specialised media, can cut VERY long designs….the maker is limited to the length of a mat.

      So what is a cricut? … Seems to be a sort of girlie version of a CNC. But instead of cutting something useful like metal, hard plastic or wood, it cuts paper, vinyl or cloth.

      For $600, couldn't you just print a paper template, and cut with scissors?

        It's a plotter with attachments to cut, score and draw repeatable precise and intricate designs.
        Adhesive vinyl for vehicle/outdoor signage; heat-transfer vinyl for t-shirts, clothing and face masks; front panel and equipment case labelling (much nicer than a label-printer); and cutting wood sheets up to 2.4mm thick - perhaps for model making.

        It's about as girlie as a sous vide cooker or a modern electronic pressure cooker. Real men (and real ladies) aren't threatened by useful tools to get things done :)

          But the friends I know who would use these "craft" materials tend to be of the fairer sex.
          Whereas cooking is universal!

          Would you recommend this, or a 3D printer first? :-)

        Nah sorry. We decided we need to do other things first before we can get a Cricut. I haven’t used a freight forwarder before… they seem to be a bit expensive usually.

    Bought this from Amazon US last week for the missus. Leadtime is 4-6 weeks. I searched high and low nobody else had stock. Good price too compare to RRP in Aus.
