Good timing, taxes were due 24 hours ago.

    • Maybe next year then

$49 for a BAS lol Might as well do it free myself.

Why would u pay to lodge BAS or your Tax Return? It’s free via the ATO…unless you want to someone else to do it (known as an accountant)…

Only one word came to my mind - scammed

Bas should be pretty much prefilled now since nearly everyone does STP. Tax returns unless you have like foreign income or averaging is also prefilled now.

Honestly, if you know how fill out an online form for a tax agent you'll know how to fill up the ATO forms.

    Tax Lodgements $29 ($20 off)

I lodged mine for free on the weekend.

  • Wait what. Why do I need this if I can do it myself??

    • 1st world requirements.

And you will still need to do most, if not all or more, of the preparation (compilation of details) yourself (and just sign to agree to all disclaimer AND pay the fee for nothing😂)

      • So we pay for a nicer looking interface

  • BAS newbie here.
Does anyone have a link that teaches how to lodge a BAS (i.e.How to calculate the amounts, what is deductible, etc) apart from whats on the ATO website?

    • Gosh…it ain’t that hard:

      Total Revenue
      GST amount on Revenue
      Total Expense/Costs
      GST amount on Expenses/Cost
= GST payment or refund for the quarter.

The key to the above is making sure you do you book-keeping regularly…

You only need to do a BAS lodgement if you are registered for GST (ie. Your annual revenue is expected to exceed $75k).

You may also need to pay PAYG; based on your historic tax return.

If in doubt, pay an accountant. Don’t get yourself into trouble with the ATO, because if you get pinned for an error (using a “I didn’t know” excuse) you will be flagged for possibility of getting audited…

The above is not financial or accounting advice.

      • Appreciate it.
Have recently started driving for Uber/DiDi and wasn't too sure

        • Taxi/uber drivers need to be registered for gst by law, regardless of income.

          • @krisspy: its government's way of getting in on a piece of the pie.
So less money for the driver

            • @IsTops: How is it less money for drivers? Taxi rates are set by govt, if they removed gst then drivers simply can't jack up rates by 10% and pocket the change. GST is merely being passed from consumer to govt. Drivers can claim gst on business expenses too you know, it's a 2 way street.

So again please elaborate how drivers are getting less money?

  • What happened to the OP? No comments left here. Poor guy got scammed and has realised it through this thread. If you can't do your tax return yourself these days you have one of two issues. One, your tax return is complicated or two… (you know the rest).
