Would probably recommend the Dell S2721DGF when its on sale around $500-550 over this

      thanks!

yep, I'm waiting for the next promo…. Black Friday perhaps?

    • +1

There's no denying the quality of the S2721DGF but the problem is one of supply - people (myself included) who ordered during the Dell -20% special at the end of last month have been told delivery won't happen until early/mid December. Unless they really start pumping them out of the factory, you could assume Black Friday specials may not be delivered until early next year.

    • What's the killer feature of the Dell that puts it ahead of the LG? The price? The few extra fps?

Looking at the footage of the local dimming in that link, it's night and day difference with the LG display looking far superior.

      Genuinely asking.

      • The LG 27gl850 is the slightly better version of the 27gl83a. Dell's s2721dgf actually uses an LG panel, the same one as the 27gl850, so its not worse. It's actually a sliiight bit better implemented by dell. And on sale the dell is much less

      • LG is also gsync those monitors go through a lot for QAs and obviously better than Freesync

if you cant wait its worth the extra $$

Well after more than 6 months, they figured out they couldn't charge $800 for these, so kudos to them for that.

US MSRP is $380 though, so this is still a 10% markup on MSRP + GST.

High price hey, I wanted one of these since they launch but instead recently bought the Dell.

    • Dell is thankfully leading the way for 27 inch QHD IPS 144hz monitor pricing regularly discounting it to around $500-600. Hopefully black friday brings better deals.

      • I would argue that Viewsonic are the ones leading the way down at the $400 mark, and that $300-$400 should be the goal for all of these monitors as supply normalises.

Their HDR features suck, their wide gamut features are limited or non-existent, and some of them (eg. the Dell) don't even have sRGB emulation out of the box.

Given the inherent caveats for IPS at high refresh rates (powdered trailing because of how much light leaks out from the backlight), there's a strong argument to be made for these to be the poorest value gaming monitors at a given refresh rate above 120Hz.

        • +1

These are fast ips. Independent of refresh rate.

          • @ChurchMouth: I'm aware of what they are, it's an inherent issue with the technology.

To get their colour consistency, they need to let light out evenly, which makes blacks washed out, and introduces a powdered trailing that isn't solvable by jacking response times, and current response time testing glosses over this too much.

            Here's a video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbZUgKpzTA0

Basically the final 10% transition sucks on IPS, way more than any other technology, so at a given refresh rate, you're always at a disadvantage. 360 Hz IPS, especially with sluggish 90-10% response times, absolutely sucks.

It's basically elite 240Hz, not 360Hz. TN is still king for gaming, and fast VA is right on its heels, which makes the latter the entertainment panel of choice if you're willing to go in for the Samsung G7.

  • Any ideas for the PS5 monitor?

    Budget $1000

LG BX OLED 55" on sale later in the year or Q1, though that might be stretching it.

Otherwise maybe a 4K 144Hz LG-based panel as they come down in price. If you need to buy in the next 2 weeks, I'd consider getting just a 4k 60Hz at $300-$350 and saving up, otherwise look at the Dell QHD 144Hz at $500 or the Viewsonic QHD 144Hz at $400.

There might be more info on the Samsung G5 VA monitor, but early info suggests they didn't get the panel up to a comparable spec with the G7.

Assuming that's confirmed further, then you just need to look at which 1440p 144Hz monitors accept 4K input and downscale, but it will be locked at 60Hz unless they offer HDMI 2.1 input (though they have no reason to at present).

The Samsung Space SR75 27" model is one such monitor, but I'm not sure of others. RTings test for this in their benchmarking.

      • What would you suggest for 4k 60Hz monitors in that price range (or even ~$500)?

Am also looking for PS5 monitor in the next few weeks, this is my preference atm: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/51798/aoc-u28p2u-4k-uhd-… but I'm a noob

        • AOC U2790VQ

          Dell S2721Q/S

          Samsung LU28R550UQEXXY

          Philips 288E2A

There's been a few of the above on sale for $350 already, but expect lower prices soon.

  • I rate the Dell, but I think this one allows for 4K downscaling from the PS5, could be wrong?

  • I have this monitor, its really good.
I actually got it for $600 but that was due to a staff discount, I would say its worth it at this price, you could wait for the Dell, but who knows how long that could be.
It's made me want to upgrade all my other monitors, they look absolutely terrible in comparison.

  • Im looking to get two monitors, one gaming one like this and a 2nd one for work etc.
Can anyone recommend a good combo (or one which matches this), ideally trying to stay below 750 to 800 total.
