  • You can just buy WiFi controlled IR remotes or smart remotes like this: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/connect-universal-smart-ir-r…

I don't believe they allow smart features which are a main selling point

Supports any air conditioner or heat pump with a remote control

Supports many maybe, but not any. Some aircons use proprietary protocols that aren't made available to others.

With a remote control = wireless remote = infra red (very very unlikely it's Bluetooth). This thing is just an infra red blaster with Google assistant capability (there are many similar products which work across any IR device). I guarantee this would have some sort of learning function, whereby you can train it with your existing remote. Not sure what protocols you speak of - if a wired remote then I'd agree this wouldn't work (eg ducted wall mount controller)

      • There are a few ducted aircon manufacturers out there that use (or did use) RF remotes. These would be useless for those.

RF controlled aircons are getting rarer (not seen any for a while) but people tend not to replace aircons very often so they may have decades old units installed.

      • This it works for most of the IR aircons. Meaning split systems.

  • Ukelele stock music. 'family with a dog'
    wifi controlled aircon.
Perfect setup for a black mirror episode.

  • Can you get a ir blaster for $20?

  • I wish my ducted had a remote.

  • How is this a deal? $100 per remote and that's literally it's only function.

Just get a wifi remote controller for $30 and use any phone or even get a cheap phone with an IR blaster and use an app.

Yes, cant believe people actually buy these.

I can vouch for these. They're great.
Built in thermostat for smart controls.
Should work with any ac that uses ir remotes.

    Only complaints
    - schedule could be more customisable.
    - some features require a paid subscription.

    • What features? What subscription? I have three and have never encountered a subscription prompt

    • Doesn’t the aircon unit itself have a built-in thermostat?

      • Many air con built in thermostats don't have smart capabilities…

        • What smart options are you talking about?

  • +2

I’ve got one of these and they are great. Can get temp humidity etc on your phone from the unit anywhere in the world. Can start aircon before you arrive so you come into a cool or warm house. Can voice control it. Setup a bit finicky due to multiple steps involved but mine hasn’t skipped a beat in 1.5 years.

    • Hi…
just wondering how many split system units can one of these Sensibo Sky Smart devices control?

If I have 3 separate split system in my granny flat. Do I use one to control all of them? Or do I need one for each wall unit?

    • You can do all this with an IR wifi remote controller set up at home for under 1/6th of the price and you can use it anywhere on any phone for more than just air-cons…

Yes been using my Broadlink minis and pros for a couple of years for all the air cons, tv's, foxtel, stereo system, fans etc running through Alexa and it's been rock solid. $17 for the minis and about $40 for the pros.

Personally I'd much rather pay a premium and buy something that works well without having to sacrifice my weekend setting it up

          • +1

@LlamaLlamaLamp: It really doesn't take any more effort to set up a broadlink, download the app and select your aircon. That is literally it!

I' have both the Sensibo and the IR blasters/Blitzwolf version and with my limited knowledge on how these all work the Sensibo is by far the the most user friendly of the two and a simple UI. I would like to try the Xiaomi version (as they seem to make decent stuff) but the Blitzwolf can only turn on or off, speed settings. Ideally would prefer the cheaper option but in the end ended up grabbing a few Sensibo's for work and home.

Sensibo can do geofence, climate react, sync power state, horizontal swings/ fixed top, schedules, pretty graphs, humidity, temp and lots more. If someone can tell me the others can do provide all what Sensibo can provide i'll be the first to jump!

I have a Sensibo that works great with an aircon I was never able to get to work with an IR blaster (a Broadlink, I think, but it’s been a while).

The benefit of the Sensibo is that it comes pre-configured with a lot of different aircon models, so you just plug the model number into the app and it works. It also has a built-in temperature sensor so it can basically act as a smart thermostat. I guess that’s what you’re paying for over a more vanilla IR blaster (though, again, it’s a while since I’ve looked into IR blasters and maybe they do that too now).

What is really great about it is that if you’re an Apple HomeKit user there is a Homebridge module that makes it work great with HomeKit. I’m sure there are similar packages for IR blasters, but the Sensibo one just works really well.

I’ve actually just retired mine (replaced the aircon with a unit that has built-in Wi-Fi), but it has worked great for years. If you actually need three, this seems like a pretty decent price.

  • Great price!
