  • is this a good lens, i have 24-70 f4 and it's quality is not gud

    • This is indeed a good lens if you value the small form factor and great AF performance.
Optically this lens is very good, but not superb.
24-70 F4 is one of the not-so-good Zeiss FE lenses.

      • +1

Cheers mate, my dumb brain bought tamron 2. 2 years ago and need to sell it for money. I bought 24-70 ziess and it's quality is extreme disappointed for me. Probably give this one a try.

      • +1

this lens is beyond superb, not sure what you are basing that off.

      • +3

"This lens is very good but not superb" really? Very interesting comment. This lens is beyond superb. In fact it's absolutely amazing lens. Extremely sharp (probably the sharpest 50-55 mm lens from ANY lens manufacturer). Bokeh is a dream. Look at DXOmark score for this lens.. Sony 24-70 is (despite its Zeiss badge) isn't a good lens. It's very respectable for beautiful colours (similar to any Zeiss) but sharpness and corners are dissapointing.

        • +1

I had tamron 24-70 f2.8 and it was awesome, so sad i had to sell it. One year later i bought 24-70 f4, spend more than $200 than i spent on Tamron and totally disappointed. So excited for this lens to arrive. My cashrewards hasnt been tracked but hopefully it will be tmr. But tamron 24-70 is super heavy, ziess is much lighter lol. Anw, i found that sony colour is not appealing, i always need to use lightroom for color balance. Canon did much better job with canon R. Is there any tips when using sony, i’m newbie :D

          • +1

@nguyentran: Did you mean Tamron 28-75 F2.8? Zeiss 24-70 is lighter and has OSS. Also it has wider end 24 mm and produces nicer colours than Tamron. And cheaper to buy used 😃. I recently bought Tamron 28-200 mm super zoom and totally in love with it.
I must say I'm not a professional photographer (don't even use raw when shooting). I think Sony colors are a bit greenish while canon colors are a bit reddish. I personally prefer Sony colors (just my 2 cents, it's very subjective 😃).
Having said that, I still think Sony colors are a tad too greenish/ yellowish sometimes in which case I use Lumina 3.0 to tone it down a bit (increase blue a little or adjust the colour temperature towards blue).
With Sony, Zeiss lenses give best colors, followed by G masters & Tamron. Sony's own cheap lenses give worse colours (too yellowish especially when low light). I've also noticed A7 and A7R bodies produces a tad more yellowish/ greenish tint compared to A7S bodies.
            Hope this helps.

            • @npnp: They were close with the a7iii but it still had a few niggles. Sony has finally turned the corner properly and it can be seen in the colours/white balance bias in the a7siii and sony zv-1.

    • This is a great lens, lightweight, quite sharp and superior build quality lens according to reviews. But haven't tried yet, just ordered today this is a great price for this lens.

      • +1

Cheers guys, requested price match now. Hopefully it will be approved

      • Did your cash reward tracked ?

        • Not yet. But it did track when I used the same method for Sony A7 III a couple of weeks ago.

          • +1

@harryaus: Awesome, a7iii is my favorite too. Z series battery is superb/.

    • +1

Best lens I have owned since I got first Gen A7. There was no competitions in terms of sharpness with other cheap 1.8 50mm lens. It's best investment I ever have for camera lens.

  • +4

as well as other cashback eligible GM lenses, all good price.

It looks the 8% cashback will be expired by tonight

    • yes, it is a great opportunity to grab some high-end lenses from sony by using above method

  • Please note this deal will expire tonight

    • U might need to change the title cuz the price is not included cashback according to T&C :D

  • Is there anyone from Sony Website working now?

    • +1

I submitted the request and got approval around 10 mins later

      • Thanks, I will keep on waiting.

  • +3

One of my most used fixed focal FE lens , superb image Quality

  • +2

FE 20 f1.8 is also a good lens with good price($1002.16) following the same steps.
    https://www.camera-warehouse.com.au/sony-fe-20mm-f-1-8-g-len…

    • Good price! I paid $1099.20 (after cashback) yesterday!

  • Forgive me if this is a stupid question but how is this lens compared to 50mm one ?

    https://www.camera-warehouse.com.au/sony-e-mount-fe-50mm-f1-…

    • +2

A s***load better. Sharp af for weddings etc.

    • +2

I bought the 50mm FE f1.8 from the Amazon Prime sale for about AUD$260 from Amazon UK. It's "cheap" for a reason. I don't think it's comparable to the 55mm Zeiss. The 50mm FE 1.8 has a very slow and noisy AF system - lots of "breathing". It's not great for video, okay for photos. I've only heard/read great reviews on this 55mm. If I could do it all over again, I'd save for this 55mm Zeiss. $699 is a no brainer considering it retails for $1299!

      • +1

Same here. Was waiting for a good price on the 55mm but the Amazon Prime sale was too tempting. Also weighing up the differences between the two and me taking more stills than videos (and only a hobbyist), I reckon it is still the right choice made. Have only tested the 50mm briefly under ok lighting conditions and did not find the AF to be as you've described. I also got the 85mm during the Amazon Prime sale and that lens is quite good. Tested in low light and the AF was crazy quick.

    • +1

50 1.8 is only worth $200 in my mind, I will absolutely go 55 1.8 with this price, you will not regret

  • Unrelated but wanting to sell my a7rIII and Tamron 28-75 2.4. Anyone know the best places to sell camera equipment, is it easiest just to post it on eBay?

    • +2

I sell my stuff through photography/video/camera groups on Facebook. There are a lot of them!

  • +2

F**king love this lens. Used it all around Europe and it never let me down.

Sony FE 35mm 1.8 $839.06 (+ $50 cashback) i think this is good price as well!

    • +2

My favourite lens. Sold the Sigma 35mm 1.4 for this one about a month ago for $799. No regrets! Significantly smaller and lighter with similar performance (IMO). I think the AF is a touch faster than the Sigma too. $780 after cashback sounds great!

  • How long does approval take? I've been waiting for more than a few minutes…

    • +2

      Got mine within 15mins

    • +1

i don't think they work at night… probably approval tmr at 0600

I tried to do the price match for the Speedlight, but no reply.

EDIT: 21:14AEDT they approved my price match

    • +1

Mine took about 45 mins, I got the 55mm - now I'm trying for the 2.8 GM 24-70

      • I think 24-70 2.8 is quite heavy and bigger in size as compared to tamron 28-75. Do you think it is worth extra weight and money ?

        • +1

I hear lots of people like that Tamron, but the Sigma & Sony GM do have slightly better image quality. You're talking about an extra 300G. In any case, I'm a sucker for a bargain - and this price is incredible

          • +1

@Mac40: yes I agree this price is awesome, you are getting it $1759. No way you can find that lens at this price.

  • I haven't got any reply…..

  • +1

Wow that's a great price. Highly recommend.
I bought a secondhand one for like 150$ more last month 😣

  • This is my favourite lens. Actually the most. It is sharp, but not too crispy. Very nice bokeh. I sold Sony gear a while ago but still keep this lens.

  • I got the email confirming price match but not seeing it in my cart.. anyone had this issue or know how to get it to appear?

    • I waited one minute and logged in and out again and it worked.

      • Sadly doesn't seem to be showing up for me :( Too late to contact Sony support and the cashrewards ends at 11:59pm

        • I managed to get 2 lens in this deal, but I must have done 10 price match requests… I tried being logged in and out - adding my phone number to my profile and things like that.

          • @Mac40: Unfortunately I didn't add my phone number to the price match request, I only added my email. Bummer- I'll have to miss out this one, I wanted to get the FE 35 1.8.

  • +1

Amazing lens and amazing build quality, I dropped this lens from 1.5m height on to concrete and it didn't even chip the paint.

  • +1

Brilliant price for a brilliant lens. These easily go for 700 used sometimes

  • +5

Wedding photographer here. Since I bought this lens 4 years ago, I haven't used any other lens for portraits. Phenomenal, even under poor light conditions

  • +2

Even without the price match and cash rewards, the price was still extremely good. I picked up the 20mm 1.8.

  • I have a 50mm macro - would there be any point getting this?
What other sony lenses would you guys recommend adding to the kit?

    • +1

It depends upon your budget and what you want to shoot.

      • Food

        • Dont know much about food photography, But I think it is better if you can get 55mm 1.8 lens and Sony 90mm macro 2.8 (instead of 50mm macro). Together these will be the perfect combination. But if you want general zoom lens you can get Tamron 28-75 f2.8

  • is the $100 cashback instantly deducted or do you need to apply and they send a card with $100 value?

    • +1

$100 cashback will be received in a separate email from Sony in a couple of days/weeks time check their terms. You don't need to fill any claim form if you bought from SONY online store.

      • Thank you

  • I didn't get the price match email back yesterday, so I just bought it for $770

Wake up this morning, and Sony has price matched it… :(

    • There is no more 8% cashback.

      • +1

You're a legend, I feel much better now hahaha

    • you could wait for another increased cashback in future, sony will not remove that price-matched item from your cart, I have some items for more than a month now. Cashrewards and ShopBack both run 5% on Sony quite often, but 8% was rare.

  • I got the price match this morning but i missed the cashback 8%. Should I get for this? or wait?

    • You can still get 2% cashback. So it is still a good price. Only 6% difference.

    • +2

you can wait for another increased cashback in future, sony will not remove that price-matched item from your cart, I have some items for more than a month now

      • Thanks

      • Hi Harry, I wonder ymif you have any tips for getting cashback (as in Cashrewards cashback) on items that’s already in your cart? :-?

        • +1

Cashrewards site doesn't specify for SONY that "you will not earn cashback on items in already in your cart". They do that for Amazon I think. Keep price matched items in your cart and when cashback for sony increases on Cashrewards site just purchase from SONY clicking via Cashrewards.

      • +4

I checked with Sony before, your item can stay in the cart for 3 month

  • I had the price match offer staying in the cart, today purchased with 5% off code SONYFRENZY

    Sub total $869.42
    Order Discount - $43.47
    Delivery Free
    Total (Inc. GST) $825.95

Code is on Cashrewards so looking forward to 5% cash back as well.
After $100 promotion cash back it will be $725.95, hopefully another 5% ($37.5) cashback on my way.

Edit: cash back tracked $41.30 as 5% of inclusive of GST.
Now looking for a good priced A7…

    • I should have waited. I bought mine 2 days ago. could have saved another 5%
