  • Great! My favourite, thanks OP.

Reading the Coles website confuses me:
    - "Made in Australia from at least 50% Australian ingredients"
    - "Ingredients: Roasted Peanuts (99.3%) & Sea Salt"
    - "Made in Australia using South American peanuts & Aussie sea salt"

Might be worth reading a comment from a previous deal post regarding Mayver's Peanut Butter.

For example, Dark Roast Variant went from at 'Made in Australia from at least 50% Australian Ingredients' -> 'Made in Australia from at least 10% Australian Ingredients'

So 10% Australian sea salt ;-)

        • Ohh I loved their dark roasted too!

      • Such a shame. What little we have of Australian made goes by the day.

Will switch to Bega or Pics who use Australian nuts.

yeah it's annoying, hopefully itsba seasonal thing, i know other brands that flip from Aussie and overseas ingredients like frozen veggies from birdeyes

        • No one is producing peanut butter with 100% local peanut at the moment, if you do find some it's probably old stock.

        • Pics is also 50% Aussie

        • +1

I read somewhere (the side of the jar? Their website) that it's due to seasonal availability. (Oh and it wasn't the post immediately after mine, lol)

          Oh and thanks OP!

We will always support our local farmers first and will continue to do so, however, we’ve just bought the last available Aussie peanuts for the season and still need more peanuts to keep up with the demand for our Peanut Butters. The shortage of Australian peanuts is due to the devasting drought in South Queensland which has affected the local farms and suppliers.

To keep up with production we’ve personally travelled across the globe to find the next best peanuts. We think peanuts from Argentina have the most similar flavour and natural purity that our Aussie nuts are famous for. We have made sure that the Argentinian farms and suppliers meet our high standards for sustainable farming practices and, of course, deliver the best tasting peanuts around!

We will continue to monitor the availability of Australian peanuts and have our fingers crossed for a good growing season this summer and we will move back to Australian peanuts as soon as possible.

I hope their switch to imported peanuts is temporary. There is a severe shortage at the moment due to failure of 2019/2020 crop season caused by drought and bush fire. So severe that our farmers only produced less than 10% of what they normally do in the normal year. I used to buy the 1kg packet of raw peanut, it’s been remain empty from store’s shelf since early this year. Hopefully it will be better for 2020/2021 season.

The Pics brand has also gone to 50% Aussie peanuts (obviously made in NZ)

    So disappointing

So it might be worth visiting a health food shop and making your own or is there a brand with Aussie only peanuts?

  • Miss Farmers Co. 100% Aussie peanuts :(

Love this peanut butter, especially the one with hemp seeds. And as far as the peanuts not being 100% Australian grown, it is clearly specified we have shortages. One can only hope we'll get there one day soon! well cocoa comes from other parts of the world … I don't see people giving up chocolate because the cocoa isn't Australian … its' all swings and roundabouts! Thanks OP!!!

  • I've bought this peanut butter a few times and it always dries out and becomes really hard to spread when the jar is almost finished. Any tips/tricks to make it more spreadable? Dropping a bit of oil?

    • +1

Everytime you open the jar, give it a good stir. The bottom bits are dry and hard because the oil stays at the top. So if you make sure you stir it well, and by that I mean almost try to bring the bottom bits to the top, you should have the nice and silky peanut butter all the way through.

    • Always stir before use so that you don't get oily/ running PB in the beginning and dry out PB at the end.

  • Omg yes!! I've been waiting for so long lol

  • I'll never get sick of this nut butter

  • Anyone know if Coles is doing rain checks again? I had no luck getting a single jar of this last time it was on sale

  • Anyone knows how long is the typical expiry of these? Ordering them through coles ebay with the code PLUSC10 (ebay plus members) gives a 10% discount but for free delivery I need to order about 20 of them.

    • Can you not find anything else? I do not have an answer but things with high fat content do go rancid after a time. I just purchased some from another brand and the expiry was 20 months.

    • +3

      I bought 3 jars instore yesterday. 2 jars expire 4/22, 1 jar expires 11/21.

  • i still have leftover dakr roast… cant finish fast, what do with it?
