These folks are paying for these Telstra TV's with some hefty plan prices. Nothing free going on here.
For some people it's a case of multiple services so actually paying less per service than most people AND getting free things.
They already chose Telstra, thats why they are Gold members, so for them this is free.
It wasnt free when they signed up.

They asked for license number details when applying for Telstra TV for $0 for user verification upon delivery. Entered fake details and it worked without loss of any points.
I wonder what will happen on delivery when my license does not match their records. They are NOT supposed to have my license details anyway.

Depending on delivery driver they're supposed to check and put into the handheld device
Haha, their system (or a human) sent me an email:
"We’re one step away from completing your recent order.
We just need you to check the driver’s licence number you provided for ID verification purposes, as it doesn’t match our records."
There was an update your license details link in the email, which when updated, processed the order.
I did receive the Telstra TV Roku device for FREE.
For some redemptions, they asked to look at the licence. Not this one though. It was simply placed by the door.
Not sure if Telstra does not require this since the item is not that pricey, or because the delivery chap just missed out doing this.
Hopefully they send it, i never received the Telstra Locators from the last free Gold Member deal.

It says our anniversary is 7th Dec, does that mean points go to zero/reset then?
We have 2000 points, no idea what to get, most is expensive if you need points and dollars.
Points expire 3yrs after being awarded. I think the Anniversary date is when your tier is reevaluated.

Im with Telstra on an unlimited data plan with international data roaming at no additional cost - a monthly price I've been happy to pay for my needs (maybe the roaming less so in 2020!), but it's nice to get something back when I would be spending the money either way.

I have a all the apps I think I need on my tv, but will make a great Christmas gift.
My free box arrived yesterday (thanks, OP). I'm trying to set it up this morning, but can't get past the login screen during the activation phase. I suspect something is stuffed with my Telstra profile after all the messing around they've been doing with their backend systems over the past few months. (It particularly started going pear-shaped when I activated another pre-paid service in September. The app still doesn't see it, although My Account now does. An additional Telstra Plus membership also appeared.)
I've reached out for help via the app. Wait and see how the "Gold Support" is now I guess. :/
