[VIC] FireSmart Smoke Alarm $2 @ Kmart Boronia

160

The FireSmart Smoke alarm include a 9V Duracell battery. Not sure how much the smoke alarm worth, but the battery itself seems worth more than $2. Plenty of stock when I left. Not sure the price at other Kmart.

I would avoid using these ionisation ones, unless you have very specific uses for them. Use photoelectric smoke detectors instead. Your life is worth more. Not many are aware of their differences.

    • I think some places have banned ionisation smoke alarms. Anyway $2 for a 9v battery is still not bad.

      • That isn't exactly accurate. Only Qld mandate photoelectric dwellings being sold, leased or an existing lease is renewed

    • whats the difference ?

    • Serious question! I'm just not understanding your reasoning here Polyp.

If your life is worth more why wouldn't you use both?
ie. covered for different types of fires.

      • That's a brilliant suggestion. That was too sloppy of me to have dismissed its dual usage. For some reason, I've always looked at fires from the perspective of something that started accidentally, something small that started out as smouldering/smoky fires before transitioning into flaming fires. And so, I've dismissed ionisation as being useless/too late in most situations since by the time we have flaming fires (which is when ionisation detectors perform better), the temperature in the house would have been at melting point plus I would have breathed in too much carbon monoxide over that period that had put me into a deep sleep…..But what if someone wanted me dead (malicious act), broke into my house while I was sleeping, doused everything with kerosene and start a flaming fire from the get go? Damn, I've been too careless. Thanks for the tips.

I would also avoid boronia kmart, and the junkies that hang around the Chemist on the left

  • I use both, covered for both smoky/cool fires and high-heat fires.
