Blackmagic Davinci Resolve Studio + Resolve Speed Editor Controller $440 @ VideoPro

250

Linked to the one I've ordered mine from, the serial code edition comes in a physical box. Most of their authorised resellers have this deal running.

Blackmagic has announced Resolve 17 coming up, and for a limited time if you purchase Davinci Resolve from most authorised suppliers you'll get a hardware controller for editing ($450 RPP). When Resolve 17 releases you will be able to update from 16 to 17 for free.

I've been using the free version for a while and was considering waiting to buy one of their cameras to justify the cost of upgrading the software, but I've been wanting a physical controller and this looks good value.

In April 2019 the software alone was $413 from at least one supplier I checked.

Most suppliers are waiting on stock, but the one I linked to hints at shipping on the 18th November, but that might be referring to people who ordered earlier, I don't know.

Limited time offer, I only found one mention of a date it might end, being December 31st.

    Hmmm, very tempting.
Have you ever tried any Resolve hardware? At the moment I am using an Xbox controller for editing in Resolve.

Didn't even know that was a thing!!

How does it work? Is there a lot of swapping to KB+M for menus/settings etc?

      • I only used it for working with the timeline.

Because most things can be done by keyboard shortcuts while working with the timeline it wasn't much of a big deal to map them to buttons on the controller.

Took some getting used to at first, but after a while I found it quite easy to move about the timeline and edit the timeline with it. Also, makes enough sense in my head to use a controller stick as a jog/shuttle, the dpad to move between layers in the timeline and through the edit points so that felt quite natural.

I got the idea from here years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-IbKBPDdh0

Wow great deal! Quick look on eBay and you can flip the license for easily over $300, making the new speed editor controller at most $140 😍
    Ordered straight away, thanks OP

  • Been thinking of getting the full resolve for ages - this looks soooo tempting.

    • Definitely worth it for the noise reduction alone, not to mention everything else like fairlight and the sfx plugins.

Thank you OP. I was bummed when I didn't buy it quick enough back in Dec from videopro, I think it was about 400 dollars. Looks like it worked out in the end after all.

  • awesome

  • when I switched from Adobe to free version I was amazed how convenient and intuitive it is, but cannot justify buying full version to my missus yet, oh well some day

  • What is the difference in how the dongle version works vs this one?

    • +2

Dongle = you insert dongle into pc to activate
Code = you type a code in one time. You can deactivate your code and reactivate it on another machine if you wish. If its like the bundled version you can use the code on 2 pcs at a time.

    • 15$ shipping thou. total is more expensive than videopro

      • If in Sydney you can pick it up although the parking cost will def take a bite out of that.

@superroach: People around the world have been complaining about the delays getting Davinci Resolve keys.

OnAir sent me a key via email on Dec 14 and said they were waiting on a Speed Editor shipment, though didn't know how many Blackmagic were going to send.

            • @Thrift: Oh wow, at least i'm not the only one. It doesn't help that On Air have not replied to any emails about it.

              • @superroach: I've got a bunch of automated emails from OnAir today and one from AusPost with a parcel tracking number - seems like they got some Speed Editors from Blackmagic.

  • Anyone received their Controller yet? Or got a shipping date?

Mine shipped, looks like will arrive in the next few days
