Any chance of getting a deal on aqara temperature sensors?

    • +4

There's always a chance. I'll see if I can make it the next deal.

      • I need these as as well, to turn off shower extraction fan once humidity drops.

  • +37

These are reliable and battery lasts approx 1 year constant use. Use it to trigger an extraction fan on my cats shitbox, works a treat.

    • +4

Now that's a genius use I never thought of!

    • +3

Have an upvote for creative thinking

    • +1

Agree with this.. More than 1yr .. battery still going strong..

    • +8

Surprised your happy considering “shit hits the fan” …😳

    • My batteries still good after 2 years

    • lol, and you have a complete history of cat "movements".

      • Read this one cat owners tip vet's don't want you to know!

    • I want to use one to use for extractor fan in bathroom….. You have given me some inspiration.

    • Never mind triggering an extractor fan, I reckon triggering the lights to flash red and having your smart speaker issue a "Warning! Warning! Check the litter box now!" would be a good surprise for the missus.

  • what camera do people use with this? I want to set up a security system but don't have anything at the moment so not locked in to anything.

    • +3

Camera and motion sensor are separated system for me. Cameras records 24/7, motion sensor are used to timestamp for me go back to view footage when required.

It easier than setting up motion triggers which is I have tested and caused missed event/delay at initial start of recording. Motion sensor notification always have hit and missed with accuracy, also most camera always have decent built in motion detection which you can setup to trigger recording.

I'm not really going through footage that much anyways, so extra time spending checking timestamps on motions sensors for roughly hour/min is fine for me.

      • In my experience most modern systems have the ability to only record periods in which there is motion. So there wouldn't be a need to record outside of that and the sensor would be superfluous.

        • I mean yeah, but I have storage for it so why not.

  • Forgive my ignorance, how do I run these.. do I need anything else or just download the app?

    • They need a Zigbee hub/gateway to work. There are a few different ecosystems of smart home products and Zigbee is one of them.

      • Does Xiaomi gateway work with it?

        • +1

          Yes

      • any alternative zigbee gateway other than xiaomi?

        • +1

          conbee

        • +1

Homeassistant coupled with zigbee2mqtt and a 2531 usb dongle.

        • +1

          Samsung Smartthings

        • +1

elelabs + Home Assistant also works with this one. Any adapters that work with ZHA or zigbee2mqtt will work

  • 21.98 instead of 21.89

    • Woops. Thanks for the correction.

      • Thank you, ordered.

  • Can these be used outdoors / not under cover?

    • +1

I use them outdoors but undercover for roughly 2 years without any issues.

Used 3d printed holder for temperature and that got pretty wet during storm and still works fine. I would still get 3d printed overhang on motion sensor to reduce water getting into the device during rain.

  • when will these coupon expired? Can I order them this Friday?

    • Coupon expires in a month but it may end before then as there are 300pcs allocated.

      • Thanks for the insight. I will wait for Friday.

  • +1

There is only 1 small issue with these sensors.
Their motion interval is every 2 minutes, once motion is detected, it takes 2 minutes to get back to normal mode.
You can open it to hack but it’s not an official solution.

Edited: this is also not a good deal like before which is normally less than $15/each. I’ll wait then.

Pricing from 2 years ago you’re comparing to?

    • +3

Gearbest is a terrible example to go by for a few reasons. Xiaomi and electronic goods in general in China have increased in price, e.g. this popular light is basically at cost due to Xiaomi/Yeelight popularity causing a price hike. While the other reason being is that Gearbest for a long time had a loss leading strategy to beat all their competitors no matter what. LITB also followed suite, but when was the last time they had a post?

Gearbest have long since ditched the loss leading strategy and they're literally dying. Many of their subsidiaries have closed, a few months ago both suppliers and workers were protesting at their HQ over months of no pay and even recently they've stopped paying affiliate income to their partners.

On another note I always try to offer free priority shipping on my deals. Better than the 2-5 month shipping you get with airmail in the current world situation.

This is a big problem for me as I am thinking of using it like a door bell

      • -1

I think you have this confused, you can set a trigger off of "Detect motion" which has no cool down, or some of the other presets like "No motion activity for 2 minutes".

The interval of detection is .5-3 seconds (from my testing) depending on connection strength, server speeds etc.

        • -1

@jingsu6688 is right. when motion is detected the state will be on/true for 2 minutes ( or for as long as detect motion). when no mov is detected with will change to off/true.

As far as I know you don't get motion updates every 5s (unless hw hacked)

    • it's definitely less than 2 min. I have set mine to trigger the getaway lights(for 60 seconds using it as a night light) and as soon as the light turns off, the sensor triggers it on again if motion is detected

  • Hey @Clear,

I used the first coupon but it said it was fixed to AUD 32.27
    Placed order anyway

    • Did you set your currency to AUD on the website or let PP do the conversion? If so it'll be inflated. Hence why I base my prices off the actual exchange rate so those who pay in USD through PayPal with currency conversion fee free cards can get the proper price.

      • Set my currency to AUD but paid with PP?

        • The exchange rate on the website is out of whack.

      • Isn't it best to pay in Chinese yuan & avoid double conversions? I cannot see which symbol to choose.

  • Does anyone know if the xiaomi switches and motion detectors can be used to control lifx globes?

    • Not unless you're using something like home assistant.

      • Ok, so if I have a mi gateway and a mi switch, the switch will show in the Google home app and I can set it to control another Google home device? Or is there a different way?

  • +1

    Do I need it? no I don't, no I don't, no I don't…

  • Can this sensor work with Google home via Samsung Smarthings?

    • +1

if you asking then probably not a good idea , the integration with smartthings is not native i.e need to install 3rd party handlers etc . it is also not stable(may drop out) unless you would go the mile using certain repeaters etc.

    • +1

Yes, but why use Google home? Just do it on Smartthings. I have the older Xiaomi sensor without the stand and it works fine. I use it to trigger ZigBee lights.

  • mate apologies in advance for silly questions ..
    1) If I buy this product is it going to work with my Alexa Echo dot ? I do not have any hubs like zingbee etc. I would like the motion sensor to trigger TP-LINK lights once let's say I open the doors ?
    2) The price is showing $51.35 haven't used the coupon yet. Also, what should I select shipping from China or Hongkong ?

    • +2

you have alot reading and learning to do

      1) First you will need a hub to connect to these motion sensors , the only hub known to work reliably is their own xiaomi smart hub , then you will need to integrate xiaomi with Homeassistant to integrate with alexa or google. all of these requires some technical knowledge

      2) china

      • 2) china
        :) … Probably yes

  • I don't even have any of these hubs nor am I in any of these eco systems but I still got some in anticipation of buying a hub later.

Now what evo system should I join?…

    • +1

That's a can of worms. If you want full control go for a Raspberry Pi based system like Home Assistant, OpenHab, Domoticz, etc. If you want something a touch simpler but still powerful go with Hubitat. If you want even simpler go with Smartthings and if you want cheap go with Xiaomi.

  • Can these be used with a Hue bridge? BTW, is there a better alternative to the Hue bridge that can fully control Hue lights?

    • Depends on your definition of "fully"

I would personally recommend the Deconz USB stick (available on Amazon). It controls Philips Hue lights and supports lights from Ikea, Xiaomi etc. Also supports many more zigbee devices like blinds, temp sensors, motion sensors etc. So you can pair these motion sensors and Philips Hue bulbs without the need for a Philips Hue bridge.

However there are some additional features that the Philips Hue bridge (which doesn't work with these sensors) can do. Namely music sync, movie/gaming sync, etc. These require the Philips Hue bridge to work.

  • will this work with Echo Plus & Alexa routines please?

    • Assume that they will not. The zigbee hub in Echo Plus will sometimes detect the Xiaomi devices, but often not.

      • thanks. that is a bit disappointing. how about hue bridge if you know? i.e. Hue Brigde + Xiaomi Sensor + Echo mainly want to have some Alexa routine works with sensor.

        • No, you'll need one of the options mentioned elsewhere in this thread (zigbee usb stick, hubitat, smartthings, etc).

  • I have 10 of these. Spec says 7 metres range but my tests shows it doesn't capture movement over 4 meters. Otherwise it is a good product.

    • You don't have ZigBee repeater in your system ?

      • No I don't. Motion sensor and hub are in the same room. If you have the devices test it your self. You won't get response from 6-7 meters. As I said I have many of them and all same.

  • Any chance of getting a good deal for Xiaomi Mijia Smart Multi-Mode Gateway ZigBee 3.0 WIFI Bluetooth Mesh App Control - White?

  • +1

Thanks @clear. Bought one. No immediate plans for them (I have two already in operation) but I am sure I will find a use.

+1 for a deal on the temperature/humidity sensor. I missed the last one.

  • Use a couple of these with Home Assistant, specifically to do motion activated room lighting at night. They're sensitive enough that my cat trips them, which is both a good and bad thing. As mentioned above, the cool down time can be a bit of a pain, but nothing that can't be worked around with a bit of ingenuity. They're also super tiny, and the little stands make them super easy to position. We have one just sitting on the floor in the corner of our hallway, and it's barely noticeable. Overall, highly recommend.

  • When setting this up - with a smartthings hub would you set this up in smartthings or mihome?
How would you configure this to trigger an existing smart device from a different app, say smartlife?
E.g When this device is triggered, to have a smartlife light bulb turn on

    • Try to do it all via Smartthings integration and device handlers. Don't mix automation unless absolutely necessary. It'll become unreliable and a maintenance nightmare.

Since native Smartthings and Tuya integration isn't fully rolled out, I use Alexa to be the middleware and common integration point between Tuya and Smartthings. It syncs both systems via triggering virtual switches in Smartthings. A better alternative than IFTTT given they are now charging via a subscription model.

      • Thanks for the tip!
What should I search up and read up on?
        Eg a setup guide?
Would be great if you can give me a few keywords to google

        • Jump onto the SmartThings forums and read up

  • good deal, i grabbed a set, been waiting for these ones to come back around :)

  • Does anyone know if these use the new Zigbee 3.0 protocol? I've heard the old one can be pretty insecure.

  • Has anyone able to connect the Xiami Gateway to Australia server ?
I can see it listed but it wont find my Gateway.
China server does connect to my gateway.

  • Thanks, I was after a couple more. Ordered!
