15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

Hmm this is interesting. So the relevant terms here are:
          - A maximum of $500 of Cards may be redeemed at JB HiFi (including online) in any one transaction
          - Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi

        • This is interesting. Because I bought 4 HIM cards from TCN through AGL Rewards a few weeks back and converted them into JB GC's just fine. Do you think it will work differently because of this deal?

          • @JoKing: That was digital, different story.

            • +1

@Meovel: Ah right, I didn't think they would be different. Interesting there is such a difference between digital and physical.

  • So this is in store only? Link to website is just for information on gift cards I take it?

  • +2

This is where the system comes undone.
The fact that people are looking for 30 or 40 gift cards..(profanity) selfish bastards.

    • +5

Wouldn't it be nicer to have a system where you could configure the value of the GC on checkout so that people would just need to get one?

      • +4

That is called common sense…..if we had common sense, the world would be a better place.

        If only! 🙂

        • +1

If only! I know other stores for their own GC do this e.g JB when they activate a GC for their phone plan promos.

Anyway my best guess is the discount is on physical GC only because Coles cover part of the discount in the hope of getting more traffic into shops.

          • +2

@kopisusu: more traffic alright, from the same person.

my friend who owns a newsagent/postoffice has plenty of these, I can't just take it in to get it paid and activated in coles?

  • +1

Interesting, I've just seen some "Him" cards that are not available at jb. Might want to double check the logo on the card before you purchase

    • Maybe you saw the Him Cards that had a booklet in it? Those one's don't show any logo….

    • Nike
      Asos
      Universal Store
      Adidas
      Xbox
      Culture kings
      platypus
      Aqulia
      Foot locker
      Surf dive and ski
      Hype
      Drummond Golf

This was on a $50 and $100 Him card.
But at another Coles the Him card did include JB hi fi

    • +7

Different card. I saw those at Coles this morning and was like NO! But they had the others next to them. Make sure you see the JB logo people!

      • +4

why was I negged for helping out?

Was it not helpful to know there are 2 different types of gift card with HIM written on it. Different brands?

Maybe I'll keep my help to myself in the future!

    • +1

It did say on the card packaging that "Retailers featured on pack were current at the time of print"

The website "giftcardhim.com.au" does say JB Hifi.

    • +1

As if it’s not confusing enough, now you gotta know which type of HIM cards to look for. Cheers for the heads up though.

  • Can you pay with Flybuys dollars? I have about $600 in points so maybe I can use this?

    • I had a gander at the T&Cs on flybuys and it states

      Redeeming FB$

FB$ may be used in a transaction at a participating store as payment or part payment for purchases (excluding gift cards, iTunes cards and smoking/tobacco product purchases).

    • flybuy dollars is just put through as a eftpos card on payment options if I recall. Don't see why not.

      • +1

I have tried this before. But can confirm terminal gives error and does not allow payment using fb$

    • It shouldn't work but give it a try anyway, no harm in trying.

  • What are stock levels like various Coles for these $100 cards?

    • Depends on the store. No one knows for sure unless u check today

  • Hey guys, just want to know if I purchase $1000 Her or Him card, I can actually use them in JB HIFI shop to purchase anything right? I donot see why to convert them into JB hifi card, is there particular reasons ?thx

    • You can't use it online while JB gc can

    • JB Hi-Fi card doesn’t have expired date and also easy to carry with you ( JB card has $500, so just 2x $500 cards is better than 10x $100 him or her card)

    • +1

From what I can think of,

      1) Some people don’t live near any JB so they order online to have items delivered - so they need physical / digital JB gift cards.

      2) Some people live near a JB but would prefer to click and collect because of the usual reasons.

      3) JB gift cards don’t expire, HIM (HER/whatever) cards I believe have an expiry date of 3 years (I could be wrong).

      4) Physical HIM (HER/whatever) cards only come in $100 maximum denominations. JB gift cards come in $500. Makes a difference when you’re trying not to annoy the counter person.

      5) You can’t use physical TCN cards on the JB website, if you wanna / have to order online you have to somehow convert them to either physical or better still digital JB gift cards.

      • ok, so , if I wanna buy iPhone 12 for 1000, can I use 10 Him card in JB store? I mean does JB Efpos system recognise HIM card? I donot care buy online coz I need to make some bargain in store.lol, thx

        • Before reading the TCN T&Cs: Yes you can. You just swipe all 10 at the counter, and annoy the counter person.

But after reading the TCB T&Cs, I don’t think that’s possible.

          1. A maximum of $500 of Cards may be redeemed at JB HiFi (including online) in any one transaction.

          2. Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi.

No. 2 doesn’t apply to you but No. 1 does.

          • @dreamykitten: so is JB going to stop us from using more than 5? or the system does not load after $500 automatically?

            • @mapletian: I have no idea. Judging from some comments below, people got rejected trying to use more than $500 worth of TCN gift cards over the counter. I guess think of it as capping your discount at $75 in any one transaction.

            • @mapletian: You don't need to use more than 5 JB gift cards for your purchase.

Redeem these cards into $100 gift cards fom JB. You can then purchase a $500 JB card with the $5 x $100 ones.

Now you only need 3-4 x $500 cards for the iPhone depending on which one you want.

              • @Devil: nah mate - see T&C above - Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi.

                • @gazer: Well this has just put a massive spanner in the works to me buying a tv from JB today using the Him Giftcards. I'm annoyed but thank you for saving me the stress and embarrassment of not being able to use the $1300 worth of cards I needed

                  • @z00m: yeh its a bummer, but no surprise JB is onto OzB!

  • hi guys, can i use physical him or her cards at JB Hifi store (not online)?

    thanks

    • Yes. Swipe them like normal EFTPOS cards.

  • Just scouted my local coles, plenty of stock but still heading down at open to secure mine

  • what time does this start 00:01 or like 07:00 ?

    • In store only so 7am for me.

  • +1

So many people, so few gift cards. This'll be an opening hour dash for most Coles'.

    • +1

Might not even be worth it judging by the terms above

      • +2

In less than 24 hours we will know when the feedback starts coming in. But by then it may be to late to find any cards left in Coles.

        • Yep there will be no cards left for sure

  • The cards themselves are not loaded, so they should have thousands of cards available?

  • +12

    Okay I’ve had a look at TCN’s T&Cs,

TLDR: if you wanna play safe, buy 5 $100 TCN gift cards to use at a physical JB in one transaction. Rinse and repeat on another transaction with another 5 $100 TCN gift cards.

    1) A maximum of $500 of Cards may be redeemed at JB HiFi (including online) in any one transaction

    2) Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi

To my understanding this means you can only use physical TCN gift cards to buy stuff from a physical JB (and a maximum of $500 TCN cards can be used in one transaction).

There’s no more running around a few Coles to hunt down 30 HIM cards to buy a $3000 laptop, no more converting to JB physical or digital gift cards (possible if HIM digital cards were in the Coles promotion, which they aren’t). Unless the store doesn’t know about this or doesn’t care.

I think you can only use physical HIM gift cards at physical JBs. It says “including online” because it covers eg. HOME cards which do allow you to swap them out for JB digital gift cards which of course you can use online. But HOME cards aren’t in the Coles promotion.

So the best way is just buy 5 $100 HIM cards (limit 5 per customer at every Coles anyway) and buy stuff in one transaction at a physical JB within 3 years, as TCN gift cards expire in 3 years. Of course you can buy another 5 $100 HIM cards at another Coles and use them at another / the same physical JB in another transaction.

    • Reckon this $500 of cards applies to just TCN cards? or gift cards/vouchers in general?
I was planning on combining with some normal JB gift cards I've had lying around for months.
      Cheers

      • Just TCN gift cards from what I can tell. Then you’re looking at how many JB gift cards in store you can use in one transaction - someone said they used 33 in store for a fridge. I used 8 online the other day in one transaction. So I don’t think there’s a limit to that.

  • +2

I kinda feel bad if folks don’t read this and get stung tomorrow buying 30 cards 😞

    • +4

Some will still buy and complain to JB

    • Need to be careful about this. 5 cards only.

    • And some as had been mentioned in this thread will have stores that don't care and will allow multiple cards. Guess we will find out tomorrow.

    • Well, ok if you have 6 transactions no more than $500!! you get your 15% then on each one

    • I'm ready for some karen to blow up at jbhifi today. Odds on for my local penruff store.

  • +4

Mod should probably update the post with this info

  • +1

So are people expecting coles to sell out of these very quickly?

  • +1

I can foresee in the next days Gumtree flooded with the giftcards from all those who went to get over 20.

  • +1

Think I might just grab $500 to get an Apple Watch. The series 6 I want is $649 so will be $574 instead of $551.

    • Thinking about the same. $20 less saving without the risk.

Saving $75 is still a good deal because current model Apple Watch never go on sale.

Amex used to offer $100 statement credit shopping at Harvey Norman, haven't seen it for a long time.

  • +1

Someone on this post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/583491?page=2#comment-9674…) said they managed to change 10 cards (5 HIM, 5 HER) to JB cards and used them in store today so who knows

    • +6

if you read, he used online conversion method , which is fine as his card is digital. I just used 20 HIM and HER CARDto purchased iPhone 12 pro max a few weeks back, also digital to digital, not physical though

  • I used the agl 10% offer to get 15 cards, combination of TEEN / HIM / HER digital cards and then converted them to JB digital cards to buy a phone.

I’m not sure if physical equivalent of the above can be converted ?

    • +3

Per TCN T&Cs: Yes, if you’re okay with taking only $75 (15% off $500) off your phone price. And only in store.

      • So I can’t just walk into JB and convert physical cards to JB cards without any commitment to buy anything ? like I can do with digital cards ?

        • +1

Correct to my knowledge. You can’t buy JB gift cards with physical TCN cards at a JB. Read my comment a few posts above.

  • Actually those terms state:

“Certain Cards distributed by THE CARD NETWORK are subject to these purchase limits or restrictions:”

    What “Certain Cards”?

    • +1

I take it they mean the cards they sell that let you use at JB and TGG. Some cards eg. ACTIVE and BABY cards don’t let you use at JB or TGG.

      • Ah makes sense. Seems like it works online though but not instore

        • What works online? Both JB and TGG aren’t participating retailers for ACTIVE or BABY cards.

          • @dreamykitten: You can change the digital TCN cards to JB and use as many as you like online apparently

            • +2

@iShibby: You can, and I’ve done exactly that, with HOME cards; but digital TCN cards aren’t in the Coles promotion.

  • +9

I was rejected tonight trying to use HIM cards at JB to buy an iPhone 12 because it’s a maximum of $500 per transaction 😩😩😩

Tried to argue and they just kept referring me to ts and cs. Anyone got any ideas?

    • Is that just with HIM cards or is that in combination with other JBHIFI gift cards?

I’m buying the iPhone 12 mini this week with a combination of gift cards

      • this is what I want to know as well. I'd be happy to use $500 him gift cards if I can combine it with jb gift cards in the same transaction

      • I asked the same question cos I was going to buy JB cards through reward gateway instead but they said it was a max $500 for any gift cards.

        • In a transaction ? Might have to call tomororw to confirm

      • I bought my ip12 11 days ago from JB Hifi. I had 2 $800 JB voucher from Telstra deal then purchased 1 $500 and 1 $300 HIM card on TCN via Shopback (7%) and didn’t have any problem. I guess they changed their amount limit this week cause of this deal.

    • Same here. I had 7 x $100 him cards and tries to pay for my xbox. Too good to be true lol

    • +1

Well that’s conclusive! Looks like no coles trek tomorrow morning for me

      • Same. Buy something at around $500 and you still save $75.

    • Thought cards aren't on sale till tomorrow?

      • I got mine on shopback. 10% off .

        • Interesting the 2 people that said it didn’t work above only joined an hour ago….

      • probably a burner account….or long time lurker?

  • I have a question as i have no idea how these cards work as i’ve never purchased one before. I go into Coles and buy “the him $100 card” at 15% off will that mean i pay $85 for the card? If so and then i want to buy something from JB Hi-Fi say an iphone how does that work if i have the card network him card? Thanks.

    • +2

Yes, you pay $85 for a $100 HIM card. Or $425 for 5 $100 HIM cards. As there’s a maximum of 5 per customer at each Coles. It doesn’t matter how many Coles you go to hunt down additional HIM cards (unless you wanna buy something else in another transaction) as per TCN T&Cs you can only use up to $500 worth in one transaction at JB.

So you take your 5 $100 HIM cards to a JB, and effectively take $75 off your iPhone. They just swipe them at the counter 5 times, each time saving you $15.

      • +1

Thanks for the quick and well explained reply much appreciated ivan

      • Can you purchase these TCN gift cards with discounted Coles e-gift cards ?

        • I never tried but I believe you can’t buy any gift cards at Coles with Coles (physical or digital) gift cards.

      • And the remainder amount of the iPhone can / has to be paid by a credit card or cash?

        • I see no reason why the rest can’t be paid with a bunch of JB gift cards. Again I don’t think there’s a limit to how many JB gift cards you use in store or online. Even with the combination of TCN gift cards. The $500 restriction is on TCN gift cards not JB gift cards. Once you take the $500 off, you settle the rest however you want - at least that’s what I think should happen.

          • @dreamykitten: Yes i will pay the rest with cash or credit card. $75 discount is okay!
            Thank you!

  • do shell coles express service stations sell these gift cards?

  • +14

I think it is worth pointing out that the T&Cs for TCN cards have been changed within the last week (but probably more likely within the last day) to introduce the $500 limit per transaction at JB Hi-Fi and the "no-buying-gift-cards-with-gift-cards", according to Google. I guess people from JB Hi-Fi saw this post and became worried at what was about to happen…

I am intrigued with the "including online" inclusion, since it sounds like these cards can now be used for purchases on JB Hi-Fi's website.

    • The TCN T&Cs cover all cards they sell. The HOME card allows you to buy/redeem/swap whatever you wanna call it digital JB gift cards. But the HOME card isn’t included in Coles’ promotion.

      • In all honesty, that's probably what the edited T&Cs were intending to convey, but you would think the section regarding TGG would also include the "including online" inclusion in that case, since you can exchange a HOME voucher for a TGG eGift card too.

        • To me it don’t even matter if they said “including online” or not, as HOME cards just aren’t included in the promotion, and they are the only type of card you can buy/redeem/swap JB/TGG digital cards online.
