15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

Good detective work, I guess they are on to it then. If JB has an internal memo for store staff regarding this then it’s game over. Do we have any retail JB HiFi staff here?

      • They have previously had pre opening debriefings from head office on other deals like iPad offers and shut it down effectively overnight.

    • Pretty sure you're right on this - I checked the T&C's myself this morning and don't recall seeing the table in there with the purchase limits & restrictions. Maybe I'm blind. Would be right pissed if I bought cards then they changed the conditions afterwards.

      • +3

I went through the terms and conditions myself on Sunday and didn't see the table. I also spoke to JB Hi-Fi staff on Sunday and they said there was no restriction on converting TCN cards to JB Hi-Fi gift cards, although staff warned me that if I tried to convert a "large" dollar amount of cards, the Store Manager would be asked to decide whether to approve the request for fraud reasons.

I'm glad TCN at least changed the terms and conditions before the cards went on sale, not after. I was only planning on getting $500 worth of cards anyway, but there would have been one hell of a storm on OzBargain if TCN shifted the goal posts on Wednesday night!

        • +1

Good find on that cached version of the T&C's btw ;-)

          • @segger: Haha I originally tried the Wayback Machine, but had little success…

      • That's fine, this deal is not for JB exclusively. If they limit you spending there then take your business elsewhere as there's dozens of other retailers included.

    • yeh i reckon they're well and truly onto us lol

  • Thinking of getting a iPhone 12 mini, but $20 not worth the hassle going to Coles and JB when I can just use Suncorps 5% e-gift cards.

  • +1

I read the T&C from tcn
Yes, tcn gc cant be used for more than $500 in 1 transaction at jb and cant be swap with jb gc.
You can gamble with staff lack of knowledge of tcn T&C.
If you want to buy item $750+ and can source another way with min10% disc, take it.
Or want to buy item $1500+ and can source another way with min 5% disc, take it.
This tcn max only save $75 by purchase 5x$100 tcn gc and can be used max $500 as well in 1 transaction.

Anyone know when jb will have 10% apple products ?

    • 'This tcn max only save $75 by purchase 5x$100 tcn gc and can be used max $500 as well in 1 transaction.'
      So can't use 5 x $100 TCN cards & $250 cash on an item priced at $750?

      • +1

You can. To me it just means you can only use a maximum of $500 TCN gift cards in one transaction. Then you pay the rest of it however you like. Basically you are capping your discount at $75.

        • +1

would suck if they capped you spending up to $500 only and if the item is $50.99 and JB HIFI says you cant use the TCN cards … that would suck

    • +1

I called JB HI FI and i asked if i have a "For HIM" gift card, can it be used in multiple stacks (e.g. like 15 cards, worth of $100). They said yes.

But the TCN website says the maximum of $500 of cards may be redeemed at JB HI FI.

I might ask them tomorrow in person after I buy $500 worth.

      • Very interesting, I’ll be buying my first $500 lot tomorrow morning and seeing if they have infact locked the gift card purchases.

  • -1

If me and my brother both buy $500 worth of Him cards from Coles, can we use at Jb Hi fi for a Tv worth $1000? Also can those be used Online? Pls recommend before i waste my money and time .

    Thanks

    • read the conversation above, no you can only use $500 worth in a single transaction, it cannot be used online.

    • +1

At this stage no, but who knows if JB will adhere to the tc’s set out. Money is money and if they have a good week I’m sure it would have been worth it

  • It looks like you can't use these gift cards to purchase JB HI FI or Good guys Gift Cards (as per TCN website).

These cards are also capped at $500 in a transaction only.

I guess it's all up to the staff member if they are fine with accepting 10+ cards.

  • So it's obvious we can only use 5x TCN cards per transaction at JB, but can we use JB gift cards for the rest of the transaction? I have a $500 JB gift card I wanted to pair with the 5x TCN cards from this deal?
I've read all the comments here but still a little unsure on the ruling on this.

    • yeah, that should be fine.

    • +1

Gift cards are treated like cash so I don’t see why not.

  • -2

Can someone explain how to "convert" the physical TCN cards to a JB gift card? I have read the comments and I still do not understand.

    • Unfortunately, they don't allow you to convert a physical TCN to a JB gift card. It is mentioned in their webpage, if you click on below link and look at 'How to use' section.

      https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/the-him-card#signup

Only the digital TCN card allows you to do that it seems like.

      • -1

No. It’s not a matter of physical or digital TCN cards, it’s the type of TCN cards. Only the HOME card (physical and digital) lets you convert to JB digital cards. Even if you had HIM digital cards you can’t convert to JB digital cards, as you can see in the drop down menu under “How To Use” for HIM cards. It will only let you use at a physical JB (with physical HIM cards, or use your phone’s wallet app with digital HIM cards loaded, also to be scanned over the counter). Compare that to that of HOME cards.

        • -2

Really? I just purchased 25 TCN cards (mixture of HIM/HER/HOME) through the link below. There is a $1k limit per card per month.

I had no issue converting them to digital JB gift card though. I even used them to purchase a new iPhone for my mum.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/574606

          • +1

@Wsk: I don’t know then. I’m just going off on TCN’s website. Or maybe by convert you mean you bought JB digital gift cards with your digital TCN cards like prepaid debit cards (16-digit number, EXP, CVV). In any case, it doesn’t matter for this promotion as digital cards aren’t included in the deal. So whether digital TCN cards can be converted to JB digital cards is irrelevant.

          • +1

@Wsk: it's digital HIM gift card, not the physical one you buy in coles so it doesnt apply

  • phew, not even going to bother with all the coles and jbhifi running to buy the flip for 925, when i can get it delivered directly from samsung with guaranteed screen protector on for 950

  • +2

Is there anything to stop you using the card in JB Hifi for a $500 purchase, then immediately returning the item? I imagine they wouldn't be able to refund you with the TCN gift cards (as I assume they have no way of applying credit to those cards) and so they'd have to issue you with a $500 store credit/JB hifi only gift voucher? Then rinse & repeat to convert all of your TCN gift cards to JB hifi cards that can be combined for a purchase over $500?

    • Maybe not…

    • +1

Yeah, thinking the same thing, will just be a hassle

    • Someone please confirm this

    • Clever idea would love to know

    • +2

i'm thinking the same, will spend tmr morning to sort it out, will report for you guys

      • let us know what happens tomorrow, yeah?

    • Then it better be something easy to return, no questions about it sort of things.

      Perhaps a 32GB iPad? $499.

Apple products are usually well packaged and sealed all around, there shouldn't be any questions about it wasn't opened.

      • The only fly in the ointment with your suggestion is that there are shortages of the base model iPad across Australia, so you’ll be very lucky to find one in-store at the moment.

  • Can someone help me, If I buy 5x $100 HIM gift card at Coles tomorrow and go to JBHifi to spend it, can I use it with other JBHifi egiftcards to purchase a TV? I have 6 JB Hifi egift card to use.

    • Should be fine. I used 6 cards to buy a phone in May, using different types of giftcard.
Actually I do not even think those $500 limit will be actually implemented strictly.
Might end up with overreaction. Just relax, and stock little more than you need this holiday. you do not see 15% too often these days. Mix with other gift card. 15% is still 15%

    • I think you can as long as your max HIM card is at $500.

  • +1

Some credit cards offer price protection and extended warranty. Beware that using gift card as part payment will invalidate those benefits. Just something to consider.

  • Ah well, nothing happened at the counter. No discounts. Any specific time it starts ?

    • Gotta have the card with the JB hifi logo (among about a dozen other logos) on it… There are about 3 different 'him' /'her' cards from 3 different companies.

  • +1

At least 2 coles in Sydney metro area had 0 stock at 6am open.

    • which 2? (So that people don't have to bother checking those)

  • +1

Just managed to grab 15 $100 from my local coles. Lady had to put them through as 10 and 5 due to system limitations but nothing mentioned about the 5 card limit.

I am aware of the new $500 limit but I’m purchasing 3 products so $75 off each item is better than nothing I guess.

    • You should feel really good about that

      • Just passing on info

    • Love how I got negs but people buying 20 got upvoted, great stuff Ozbargain!

  • +1

Stacks at Coles Cambrige Gardens in NSW, 50+ cards after I bought 5

  • +1

Local Coles had hardly any and about 20 people waiting out the front if you can believe it. Stopped by on the way home after work.

Obviously all blow ins as they all ran for the main display and skipped the small one near the service desk.

Managed to get 4 x $50 cards and a $30 Nintendo eshop card. Would've liked to get $100 ones but happy enough as I've got $200 of stuff in mind from JB anyway.

  • +2

There's a decent amount at Coles Crows Nest and North Sydney… Although looked like one bloke was going in for multiple rounds in crows nest so won't be long ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • +1

I do hope JB rigorously enforces the 5 card limit. There's no need to be greedy.

      • +2

My impression is 5 card limit on purchasing the cards. I can't see JB giving a damn beyond low level employees moaning about running so many cards through the terminal. End of the day, JB gets their money.

        • except the terms and conditions say:

A maximum of $500 of Cards may be redeemed at JB HiFi (including online) in any one transaction

Wouldn't be surprised if they can enforce the limits through their POS systems

          • @renza: Makes sense. Where are the t&cs anyway? I've scanned the site multiple times and only find a half assed FAQ on usage

            • +1

@jetblack: Right at the very bottom of their website. Below privacy.

        • Only we don't know what kind of haircut JB cop on actually processing these cards.

It has to be in the realm of 10%.

    • just been there, all gone, except some 20$/50$ teen cards.

  • +1

Malvern (Vic) had plenty of $100 cards but the checkout person initially said 5 was too many and required the manager to come down and read the catalogue for them. Must have been the first customer to buy them. There was a couple behind me that bought a stack too, so looks like they are enforcing the limits there.

  • My coles was stacked. Had no idea they were on sale. No signage etc.
    easy get. Thanks OP!

  • Preparing myself for black fridag queues

  • +1

Coles Vic Gardens all good, had heaps of stock of the HIM $100 cards only me and one other guy at 6am no issues with buying 5 cards girl just asked me what I wanted to use them for I said Christmas presents.

  • +1

    Sold out@ Hurstville, Station & Westfield, Syd @ 6AM
    Holy shit!

    • This promo lasts a few days. Stock may return. Try again later

  • In qld, one hour behind you guys. Good to know all these. How many are you guys stocking? I may go for $1500 in maybe 3 different coles.

  • For those with Zip pay, you can get a further 5% off since tap and zip gives you 5% off. Might be targeted.

  • +1

Got 5 him cards at coles Lisarow NSW, plenty of stick here

  • Ozbargained almost. Can I use 1 her 100 and 4 him 50 cards in jb for a TV?

These are the only ones available

    • I think it's ok

      • $500 not 5 cards. He/she is talking about using these card at JB

  • At coles , couple of guys buying the TCN card couldn’t go thought , coles system said it failed to activate. Bought few restaurant cards and Him cards , no problem or question asked. But second of 5cards failed

  • Having issues with purchasing the gift cards online. If i buy the physical cards in coles store can they be used to purchase items via the online JB hifi store?

    • No, instore only

      • damn thanks.

  • +1

Tried to purchased $50 him cards at coles. 5 failed to activate. She told me to try 5 more and they also failed

    • Their activate system is getting ozbargained.

    • Can we activate later ? Or separately ?

      • They all come pre activated as soon as you buy from coles. No need to activate them. On back of the card it says no value until you activate at the counter.

  • I'm wondering if Coles Central will do this sale as well?

  • Failed to process through

  • Him cards not working prob overloaded. Got her catds instead

    • Did those work?

      • Got oz bargained

    • Kids and teen also works for JB purpose

  • Same issues, they're implementing a 5 cards per transaction at the moment, and the Him didn't load. Can try for Her to see if that works.

  • +1

Picked up some GCs, $100 were hidden behind all the 30s and 50s, sneaky buggers.

  • Just tried purchasing 5x him cards at Wanniassa Coles it declined so then asked him to put 1 through that failed again so I don't know what's going on there. They we scanning at $85 though go figure?

  • Just tried 5 him cards at $100, didn’t go through, declined to activate :-( asked to try again on different register, still didn’t work

    • I had the exact same issue with the "HIM" card. They don't register when they are scanned. The "HER" worked fine though

    • DDOS'd

      • Means those giftcards have expired. There was some new legislation and retailers were supposed to restock new cards

  • There was quite a lot available at Riverview in Windsor around 7:05 (both 50 and 100.) Nobody was really there other than a few old folk whom were uninterested. I was the only one there going for them. Reasonable chance there’s still some left. I purchased 5 myself.

  • (profanity) locusts bought them all out

  • Does the self serve checkout work for buying these?

  • I just bought some $50 ones (all out of $100 at South Melb), but the checkout person didn't go through an activation process, does just buying them not activate them straight away?

    • Has to be activated.
