Stumbled across this while looking for a bright (this one is 600 nits) monitor for my 2020 MacBook Pro and I purchased @ $369. Thought I'd share with Ozbargain!

This seems to be the lowest price for this one, albeit refurbished rather than new.

Specs for this monitor here: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-27-usb-c-ultrathin-moni…

A good review I found: https://macandegg.com/2019/01/review-dell-s2719dc-a-conceptu…

    Refurbished… eh

This monitor has quite a few quirks.

    • Tilt doesnt have a good retention to keep it at the same angle.
    • Cannot use HDR with USB-C, only with HDMI.
    • USB Hub only works with USB-C
    • Looks sleek as f.
    • Tilt is loose?

      • Its not bad but I've just found it seems too keen to tilt down.

        • That kind of thing tends to get worse with age though :(

          • @syousef: Depends how much you fiddle with it

    • Also FreeSync only works with HDMI.

I've got one of these as my main monitor, apart from the few odd quirks it's a great monitor!

      • Does it overclock at all?

My current 60hz ips monitors do 78hz.

    • Had mine for 18 months:

      Never had an issue:

      • with tilt,,, Always stable
      • USB Hub can also work with USB3.0 or greater port as long as it is a charging port
      • "Looks sleek as f"… No really a fault… just your subjective observation… look sleek to me, this time my own subjective observation :)

      I don't use HDR so I can't comment.

Even if this is reburbished, this is a great, well built monitor. This price is perfect as I paid double this for a new unit.

My only critical comment was the getting use to running the monitor with both the HDMI and USB-C cables and speakers connected… sorted out eventually although it took a bit of mucking about with the settings and guesswork as the documentation was not much help.

      • Quirks =/= fault.

Why do you need hdmi connection if you don’t use hdr?

    • Wait what? Points two and three seem to indicate you either pick the usb hub or HDR?

      Edit: nevermind. Addressed above!

    • Have you experienced or heard of dodginess with Dell refurbished? Apparently it’s mostly good based on what I’ve read.

Edit: I’ll be sure to report back on how I go with this one!

  • If only it had VESA mount compatibility :(

    • Funny you say that, the Humancentric VESA mount came back in stock for the first time in months. $50 though.

  • USB-C 45W max.

    • Is that sufficient?

      • depends on your machine, I think XPS 13 and Macbook (not sure about new ones) is enough. You'll need to check your laptop specs. But my laptop takes 65W (Huawei Matebook X Pro).

Screen on that laptop is the best I've seen, so crisp and wow. Hope they release an AMD version of it!

      • My research tells me it’s sufficient for MBP 13 inch

Edit: I’ll be sure to report back on how it goes with my MBP 2020 Intel 2.0 and Dell Latitude 7410

      • From the S2719DC monitor manual (page 16):

The USB Type-C port on your monitor:
        • Can be used as USB Type-C or DisplayPort 1.2, alternatively.
        • Supports USB Power Delivery (PD), with profiles up to 45 W.

NOTE: Regardless of the power requirement/actual power consumption of your laptop, or the remaining power runtime in your battery, the Dell S2719DC monitor is designed to supply power delivery of up to 45 W to your laptop.

Rated power (on laptops that have USB Type-C with PowerDelivery) / Maximum charging power
        45 W / 45 W
        65 W / 45 W
        90 W / not supported
        130 W / not supported

  • for a $519 RRP I would've expected 144hz

  • I'm using a Dell U2720Q, with max brightness only 350nits.
This one has 600 nits. Is there something wrong here?

    • Only goes to 600 in HDR mode. But it is very bright.

      • doesn't too high brightness cause eye strain?

        • Thats not how HDR works. It just means that the max brightness can be 600, and it gives you great visuals from the popping in colours, etc.

      • I dont like my 350 nits U Dell monitor because of light reflection. In the same lighting condition, I could see things on my MacBook Pro screen, not on that Dell. I guess it's because of the brightness - 550 vs 350.
So, should I consider this S monitor?

There was a 27DGF that I purchased off the outlet.

It became out of stock after it took my money so now I have to wait for a refund.

Hopefully that monitor had dead/stuck pixels or bad bleeding and it saved me.

    • Why are you cancelling it? To get this one?

  • Post-purchase update:

    • the 45w charging is 100% sufficient for my MacBook Pro 13 (2020 Intel 4 port)

    • brightness is superb, matches my MBP beautifully (although no match for the MBP’s quality); my desk setup is in the brightest room in the house and gets lots of direct sunlight and this thing cuts the mustard, very impressive

    • screen crispness is impressive, but not as good as the MBP screen. For $369 it’s incredible and a huge step up from the Dell P2419HC I was using beforehand. My ideal screen would be gloss rather than matte, but for a home office where I use this thing as a second monitor to view Excel spreadsheets, an LG 4K/5K would be overkill.

    • Dell Outlet delivered it quickly with absolutely no hassles, I have no reason to believe this was anything but a brand new product, from the packaging right down to the blemish-free screen itself

    • the lack of adjustability is a pain, but willing to put up with it to have a USB-C with such powerful brightness for such a small price

    Pro: brightness, resolution, USB-C hub

Neg: the mouse cursor occasionally gets stuck on the monitor, lack of adjustability, matte finish

Overall: this has absolutely nailed the brief of a budget, high brightness with good screen resolution
