  • Looks like they are pricematching the GGs as they had advertised it was going to be $1195

    • +9

      They are the same company.

  • +1

If you also stream SBS, Disney+ etc can you add the apps, or are you better off with a TCL that has Android TV?

    • +7

I think you are better off getting a Chromecast TV and a better tv display than looking at the smart tv stuff.

      • For me, sure (and I have) - but I've bought a couple of TCLs for oldies due to how simple the user interface is, plus you can add whatever apps they need.

  • +1

Was about to get the 65S8. Any reason to get this apart from the slightly bigger size?

    • +1

Harder to carry when moving house?

    • $300

  • Wish it was android tv?

    • +6

get the new Chromecast with Google TV much nicer

      • Agree, but only thing I hate is low storage space 😤

    • -1

      Idk.

    • It runs VIDAA U4, isn't that just a skinned launcher ontop of Android TV?
Either way as leoleakey said, best to grab the new Google TV super snappy and works well if you're after just android apps

  • +1

No mention of this TV on Hisense website but JB has listed this as 2020 model. Cant be so new and be almost 40% off. what is it lacking ?
Edit - looks like it doesnt have Android, but can run some apps. Still not bad as i use Shield TV for android functionality.

Just bought it on ebay with the ptgg5 code for extra 5%. Total of 1040.

I was chasing the 65s8 as well. But i thought id give this a go. This is the same s5 series with the 58 inch.

I bought an old hisense a few years back (58n5 wasnt top line but very happy with it)

Edit: Sorry, i thought this post was good guys. I bought from gg ebay store

  • +1

Is this not a bad idea to use this for ps5? The refresh rate is 100hz.. I don't know what version the HDMI port is. I am just curious.

    • +2

100hz means it is essentially 50hz doesn't it?

      • +1

Sorry.. I don't get it. How come it ends up 50hz?

        • +3

My understanding is that the TV input is 50hz, and the panel 'makes up' every second frame based on the previous and next frame, effectively making it a fake 100hz. It's not the same as a real 100hz.

          • @loksmack: Thanks for the good info. That really helped me to opt out all the TV options..

          • +1

@loksmack: It would be a 50/60hz panel. Motion smoothing feature enabled makes up the 100hz gimmick.

As long as the input lag is not bad it should be fine for 60hz gaming.

        • +2

That's what TV manufacturers say with their 'marketing terms'
LG: TruMotion, Samsung: Motion Rate, you need to divide their refresh rate by 2 to get the 'True' refresh rate.
And about 50Hz, afaik there is no difference between 50hz and 60hz. It's just TV manufactures can't advertise 60hz in some regions so they stick to 50hz or mention the Hz in their own terms.

    • leaving a dot cause i want to know too ahah

    • +3

Hisense 100hz is software enhanced, aka marketing BS.

      Hisense 100hz = 50hz
      Hisense 200hz = 100hz

      • +4

Not just Hisense either. Most if not all manufacturers been doing it for ages just different marketing terms.

  • How come TVs dont use displayport like monitors? Isnt it better?

    • I think Displayport doesn't do audio… I might be wrong though.

      • See i thought the same thing at first, but nope, displayport does audio aswell. I guess hdmi 2.1 is better than current displayport so i get why expensive tvs use that. But I dont see why displayport isn't used over hdmi 2.0

        • Potentially DP has extra licencing fees and is not as wide-spread as the HDMI plug.

  • Tempted but want 75

  • It's a Smart TV, with a relatively slower OS.
    I have a 65" and I regret not getting an Android-based Sony/Samsung/LG.
Those crucial seconds delay and limitations on using a keyboard and a very very limited pool of apps that can be installed takes a toll…

    • +1

Chromecast or Apple TV would solve that

      • +1

Chromecast: not really when you want the app on the TV which is not there…
for casting from an app on mobile is not really user-friendly.

I invested in an Nvidia shield and love it since then.

        • +2

The new Chromecast has Google TV with a dedicated UI and remote.

    • +2

Spend $100 and grab new Chromecast GoogleTV.

      • Highly recommend the Google TV. I have a Samsung Smart TV from 2018 and I hate the OS, would much rather Google OS

  • +1

What's the difference between s5 and s8 models?

According to JBHF website, both have 4k, HDR10, Precision Colour, BT, recording, the same apps.

Looking at 55s8 and 58s5. $995 vs $795, so $200 for a smaller screen but one extra HDMI.

Looking at 65s8 and 58s5. $1395 vs $795, so $600 for 7" and one HDMI more.

Edit: I can see s8 has a silver/metallic finish and that s5 has a black one. Is there a huge difference in the built quality?

    • Does the s5 have bluetooth? I couldn't see that feature listed and is one thing that could steer me towards s8 instead

      • +1

The one in this deal clearly has Bluetooth v5.0 among features, as listed by JBHF.

If you buy this card, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/582451, tomorrow, you only need to pay $930.75

    • Unless if this price only goes for today?

    • As you can only use $500 in those cards at JB HiFi, the total would be $1020, not $930.75.

See the updated deal that you linked to.

This tv or should I spend a bit more for a Sony or Samsung tv instead? And if the latter, which Sony or Samsung tv to buy? I'll use the tv for min of 10 yrs.

The room I watch in is both bright and dark (depending on time of day), tv will face Window so there'll be glare and reflections, using for Tv shows, Netflix, YouTube and some games.

  • +2

I bought the 75"from the GG ebay store a month or so ago for $1580 delivered. Very happy with the quality for price. I came from a 9 year old 55" 1080p Bravia that was still running fine.

I have a PS5 and it looks great IMO, don't think anyone would be disappointed with picture quality once its home in your lounge room with nothing else to compare it to.

    • +1

If you want to test picture quality play a space movie with lots of black. Gravity, Interstellar etc.

    • +1

What about viewing angles? Isn't Hisense limited compared to the Bravia?

  • any recommendations for the wall mount? Its wall Mount Size (mm): 600x300 as per specs, looks like the only one suitable from Selby is: https://www.selby.com.au/bracket-finder/42-70-led-plasma-lcd…

  • Does it have local dimming ?

  • Are there no more TV deals apart from the ones in Catalogue? In short, can I expect more TVs to have deals at JB tomorrow? I'm looking at TCL 55 C715 QLED which is currently at 1195 at JB Hi-FI. Expecting it to drop 100/200 further.

    • You can get the larger c715 65" for $1295 or $1235 if in WA (Retravision with RAC discount). Would think that would be a better buy unless space is an issue.

      • Name would suggest not in WA. Thanks though. This is for bedroom - in two minds, 55" would be perfect but 65" is not an issue.

      • Any deal on 75 inch?

  • is the picture quality of this unit similar to s8 units?
(asking the question because, one of the jbhifi staff said s5 is an event model and it is slightly lowe picture quality than the s8)

  • +1

How's the picture quality? Anyone got theirs already?

    • +1

Currently sitting infront of my 70S5 and the picture is stellar on Foxsports UHD. Can't fault it from everything I've watched so far.

  • Hey guys, will it this TV work with Apple TV?
any comments from the current users? I'm thinking about buying this beauty this weekend.

  • This TV will be $1085 on Boxing Day through Bing Lee.
