        Even if the first (say) 100 downloads are spyware free, the rest may still contain spyware…

          How can you ever be sure you won't be hit by a bus? It don't stop me from crossing the road. Get some antivirus and run anti-malware scans if your paranoia runs that deep, I've been using giveaway of the day for years and never had a problem.
