  • A couple of similar laptops with 4500u and 256gb drives were about $100 more fairly recently. This feels about $100-$150 too expensive as a result.

  • Agreed. If this was $650 I wouldn't hesitate. It does have the touch screen though, which is hard to find in this price range.

JB has the same model- you could maybe try price match and use the coles gift cards to get it down to $653.65

Given there have been a few decent 500GB SSD's like the SN750 for around $100 lately that could be upgraded fairly cheaply. Also, the product page shows this laptop ships with 4GB soldered + 4GB SODIMM. So unlike a lot of recent laptops, this one can at least be upgraded to 20GB fairly inexpensively. Interestingly the CPU technically supports up to 64GB of RAM, so in theory assuming Asus haven't done anything stupid in the design, you could have up to 36GB working in this laptop… My biggest beef with it is actually the 1.5kg weight - I'd really want that closer to 1.3kg or below, but you can't have everything ;-)

This is exactly what I've done (bought it 10 mins before the deal went live here).

      16GB Ram ~ $80

      500GB Samsung 970 Evo $90

May even give it an overclock (thermal capacity should of the case handles the 4700U)

Hard to find a 1080 touch screen in this price bracket.

Can you please share the link to the 16GB RAM that you bought and advise what kind of SODIMM module is compatible with this laptop?

The description for the i3 version of the laptop states that RAM can only be expanded to a maximum of 12GB (https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-VivoBook-Laptop-Windows-TP412…).

The i3 processor also theoretically supports up to 64GB of RAM. So I'm wondering whether there's an upper limit to the RAM that can be added to the 4700U version of this laptop?

  • Can anyone confirm if this has a backlit keyboard or not? Thanks

    • No, it does not have the backlit keyboard.
