Australian review mentions:
It integrates with HomeKit and Google Home. The TaDo app is just fantastic (if that is your preference as well). The HomeKit integration was a little more complex and the instructions are lacking (the trick is remembering that you need 2.4g Wi-Fi and connected to the same wireless point), but once I worked them out it has not failed me yet. Highly recommend.

  • Why does this feel like an ad

    • +2

Because it is designed in Germany.

    Reviews are not good.

    • People who mentions smart-assistant seem to have positive review (read Customer questions & answers too).

Bad review is probably by people who have often have issue with technology.

  • Also just out of curiosity can you please link the source to the Australian review you mention… I can't find it anywhere.

    • +1

It is on the Amazon link.

      • hey there - I'm unable to DM you directly - Can I ask how did you stumble upon this deal? I would really like to know your process… Cheers!

Hi, I was browsing the Black Friday sale @ Wireless1 and came across this product, then google searched “Tado Smart AC Control V3+ au” and found the Amazon & JB HiFi pages.
          Amazon was cheapest.

Just get a Broadlink Blackbean Mini for about $15. Can do most of this stuff plus it's also a whole lot more versatile (e.g. program any IR codes from any remote control in your house)

    • Agreed. Or get the RM4 mini with temp and humidity sensor if you want temperature automation, if you don't already have sensors.

    • You're right - for its price point it's extremely hard to beat - I'm currently using the minis for ACs myself.

I use the Minis with Apple Homekit and Homebridge. The cons I see to this are:

1 - If your router reassigns a new IP address to the Mini for whatever reason after a restart, you would lose connectivity within Homekit.

You can obviously assign static IPs in your router to mitigate this. However, my own preference is a zero/minimal config kind of environment at setup or at restart/refresh of my electronics.

If I remember correctly, you can also still connect via the Broadlink app as a workaround too.

2 - Going Homekit native with Tado means removing reliance/point of failure of the Homebridge. Having one less hop is always better.

So the question for myself is is it worth another $80 for the above (alongside with other features that Tado has like a physical button to control unlike the Mini)

  • I was looking at these but the subscription requirement for some features put me off. I find it expensive enough as it is for what it does. You can create a cheaper system if you are so inclined. But just not made in Germany if that's important to you.

subscription requirement for some features put me off.

Yes made sure to put that text in bold.

But just not made in Germany if that's important to you.

      Yes probably made in China.

    • Geofencing and window detection can be done via HomeKit? Or you are not using Homekit?

  • what extra I get on this device more than 35$ broadlink RM4

    • Made in Germany? Plus the premium feeling that you're paying for a subscription on top of the cost? Maybe a bit more integration for those who do not care to mess around with device configurations? There's a market I guess. Just not me.

  • So this will not work with ducted aircon right? I have the central control in the hall way with a button to turn it on or off.

    • Don't think so. Most of these smart air con controllers only work with air-cons with an IR remote.

  • Anyone tried both Sensibo and this product and care to comment?

I want to like these products but, other than being able to start your aircon before you get home, or trigger it on/off with geofencing, I'm not sure of the true value add beyond that. Sure, you can control your aircon by voice with Google or Alexa, but it's not that hard to grab the remote.

I'm not looking to control or monitor kids bedrooms from outside their rooms, so tell me how I could benefit from this the most, based on how you use yours ;)

    • "it's not that hard to grab the remote."

But it is when you're comfortable lazy and laying on the couch/bed/etc and all you have to do is holler out commands to a smart speaker.

Or you're snacking and you don't want to get the remote dirty.

Or when your hands are full and you're busy with stuff.

      • Very true. Very true ;)

Have you used the Sensibo too?

        • +1

Nah - I would consider it if only it had native Homekit. Browsing through the specs, it's almost similar in nature with regards to features. No idea with regards to performance/stability etc though.
