  • How long does this deal run for?

    • I called the store. The rep said today only.

  • Signed up this arvo. But it was a hassle as I don’t carry a wallet anymore and they wouldn’t accept digital forms of ID?!?
A bit backwards, but if you’re heading in store, make sure to bring some physical id

    • Weird. They can do via phone without seeing the IDs but in store need physical.

    • They did with my ServiceNSW driver’s licence, but then I already had a few services on my Telstra account.

      • +1

As did I. Been 31 days since I ported out. Had digital drivers license. But they wouldn’t accept my digital Medicare, digital credit card… it felt very backwards.

  • I’m at a JB store porting one over right now, and the staff confirmed it is today only, as part of the Black Friday sale.

  • Signed up to this in store. First two staff members didn’t know about it. Luckily the third did as he saw it mentioned in a staff app or something last night. I had called another store this morning and they said there were no specials today… They really need to better inform and educate their staff.

Had a small issue with the bonus 20GB not being added to the account during sign up. A phone call back to the store had that fixed within 30 mins.

Used the GC towards the new base MacBook Air. $1600 machine for $940!

    • I’m glad you’re glad, but technically you only got $500 if you were paying $59 for your phone plan anyway.

But isn’t the MacBook Air with 256GB SSD $1,349.10 from JB today? That should make it $849.10 Plus the GC.

      • The previous generation is that price.

        • Yep, just as well I wasn’t buying one! LOL

  • Called JB HI FI melrose park, SA. They said it was either $10 credit OR the $500 lol.

Had no issues with Marion SA, other than the fact there was a line of people waiting to port over and the system took ages. Staff said it was today only (the $500 GC)

  • Currently waiting in store for my old service with kogan to drop out and new one with Telstra to kick in before I can get the gift card. Been over half an hour so far, telstra's systems must be overloaded with everyone porting in.

    • Where did you get that done? I didn’t know you had to have Telstra connected before you got the GC.

    • Yep, had to wait ages for the people in front of me who were waiting for ports/new profiles. Mine went through easy as a new service to existing profile though

      • I wonder if it depends on the rep. Mine was cool and mumbled something about the 20GB being added later but he’d just do it on the spot to make it easier. I just collected the gift card when he was done. Both were port-ins, one from Vodafone, one from Spintel (Optus).

They may have done that for me but I ported out 28 days ago not the full 30 so it's understandable they won't give it to me until approved by Telstra.

        • Extra 20gb is definitely added by the sales person in store at time of port.

  • Do you have to do it during business hours?

If you can do it after hours (I.e before 9pm close), can the transfer occur after hours or am I waiting till Monday for the service to activate?

    •  From Telstra website: We can only transfer your mobile number during these operating hours:
      Monday-Friday: 8am – 8pm (AEST/AEDT)
      Saturday, Easter Monday and Queen’s Birthday: 10am – 6pm (AEST/AEDT)

  • Is the max Early Termination Charge still the same as the $69 plan? ie $414

    • Pretty sure it is. That's what mine is from a couple of weeks back.

      • So everyone can get 500 less 414 as profit?

        • I suppose you could do it. Or if you only needed one new service, activate two, cancel one.

  • Signed up they told me I could change my number in a few weeks once I leave my corporate plan.

  • +1

You can do this over the phone? Just call up and they'll sign you up on the spot and what? Post your gift card?

Was able to price match the Pixel 5 for $749 after geting this deal meaning I only had to pay $249 for a pixel 5 plus $59 a month for 12 months with 80GB of 5G data!

We did this today! Ported 2 numbers from Optus to Telstra. Saved $30 on each plan compared to Optus, gained a further 70gb combined and $1000 in gift cards!

    Deal of the century!

    • No just the week, barely one goes by when they don’t up the standard gift card offer

      • Is this the highest it's been?

        • i think so, usually $500 gc is for $99 plan.

  • weird this page says gc only $300 for $69 plan
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

    • That's because it was today only apparently..

They said it's back to $400 tomorrow?

    • They don't usually advertise it online. Even in-store they may not post it if it's super limited. May be some sort of arrangement with Telstra? Not that they don't have plenty of people knowing about it. Pretty much their first question/confirmation would be a reference to OzBargain!

      • well my logic says $500 is a bit too high for plan $69 but hey JB profit is soaring high year by year

        • There's been quite a few times recently with $500 as the GC. It's becoming pretty standard, can't complain.

        • It is indeed high in that the ETC is $414 but you get a $500 gift card for it. I probably should've added an extra service just to cancel!

  • LookIng to sign up for this tomorrow. Anyone have the free Apple Music subscription through Optus know whether your music subscription gets terminated when you transfer?

Just came from JB and this deal was only for yesterday. The guy showed me from his computer 27.11.2020-27.11.2020.

At least get to enjoy my McDonald’s brekkie now :P

    • Might want to check the earlier threads mate, posts say it was one day only on Friday. But these gift card deals do come up so keep an eye out.

      • +1

Thanks. I was misled by the expiry posting in this deal above. Oh well next time.

        • +1

Was just in JB this morning and they told me it’s extended until tomorrow

      • Yeah, I was too busy yesterday with other eBay deals while accompanying missus to her annual pilgrimage :P

  • +1

Anyone know how long it takes to port the number over from Optus?
Did the deal last night around 6:30 and they said the gift card is waiting for me once the port in is confirmed

    • Same for me with Vodafone, still waiting on port

    • It's instant? We ported 2 numbers and walked away with 2 gift cards instantly

  • +3

Was just in JB this morning and they let me know they have extended this deal until tomorrow

    • Should I go back as I was D-nied this morning? Lol

      • +2

Go back and report back :)

          Indro. Brisbane back to $400

          • @blehgg: My local is saying no $10 monthly credit. It's back to $69 PM

  • Just called JB (central number not specific store) and they said $300 for the $69 plan, and $10 off and $500 gift card for the $99 plan. Trying stores now… $400 voucher on the $59 plan currently. And they have stock of Pixel 5.

Note if you port away from one of those 365 day woolies sims that get you 10% off shop once a month for a year, you lose the discount according to woolworths chat:

"So if you decide to port to another provider before the expiry date of your $150 plan, you will not be able to receive your 10% discount anymore since the service needs to be active for you to qualify for the discount.
If you port your number out, your service with Woolworths Mobile will be terminated."

Can confirm at least with my local JB Hi Fi that:
    a. No port in from Belong or Boost; and
    b. Gift card is now $400.

Other outlets in Aust may bend a bit.

  • switched to Vodafone from telstra. I'm pretty sure they'll offer this deal on Christmas like last year

  • Does anyone know if you can use the gift card to buy a phone at the time you sign up? Or do you have to wait to receive it? Thanks in advance!

    • Depends on when you got the card. I got mine before I left the store but I think the services were already ported in? This was on a Friday afternoon. So yeah, I could've.

  • I got knocked back for port in deal at JB because I've only been off Telstra for 2 weeks. Live chat tell me I can sign up for a new service and complete a number change later.

Has anyone tried this? I want to be sure this will actually work

    • Yes. I had a Telstra prepaid. Signed up with a new number, then transferred the plan to my prepaid number and cancelled the prepaid using the Telstra live chat app.
It took a while for the customer service rep to understand what I wanted, but once he understood it was done in 15 mins. He had to cancel the prepaid first, then transfer the plan to my ex-prepaid number.

    • "Change fnn" over Chat. I did this but with both old and new services in the same Telstra account. Not sure if it would work if your number is with another carrier.
