CAREY_2021

I saw that Acronis.com were having a Black Friday sale (for their yearly licensed version of Acronis 2021) however I hate the ongoing subscription model and I don't need the 1TB cloud backup storage.

This deal when used with the above coupon code will take 60% off the current price and this is for the perceptual license (you pay for it once, no further costs). This license does not provide you with online cloud storage.

You can also transfer this license from PC to PC should you only buy the one license, it just means that the license will be deactivated on the current PC if you install it on another PC.

While there are always free alternatives and alternative backup software to Acronis this might be a good deal for those looking for a simple and easy tool.
As always, do your own research and if this isn't within your budget you can always use many other free alternatives.

Acronis do offer a 30 day free trial click here so you can test drive the software before committing to buying it.

Supports Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

For full transparency the coupon code was taken from here

Edit #2: This was not a Black Friday/Cyber Monday related code and should be working until Acronis expire this code at their discretion.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2020

Does it allow you to sense impending hard drive failures?

    • I think you need this software if you want active monitor of your hdds :) https://www.hdsentinel.com/
Black Friday sale so software is 55% off.

      • Ahh, so no perceptual licence needed then. ;)

Interestingly I recently found out about my dying HDD from Acronis True Image 2020. This was in an email confirmation I received following a backup.

The format of the message is disgusting (a snippet shown below) but at least it alerted me to investigate further. I would recommend checking 2021 before taking the plunge as it contains a lot of mandatory security related functionality that you may not want in your backup software.

Snippet below - one of the many "rough edges" with Acronis:

Acronis seems to reporting a file system error and asking you to use the Windows Disk Check Utility to scan your hard drive so it can correct the error.
I don't see how this is an Acronis problem as the software doesn't contain a hard drive ulitity tools to scan for errors, etc.

Disk management is handled by Windows and if you are unsure refer to this online resource here

Alternatively use a disk checking tool like Hdd Sentinel which does active monitoring and has tools to scan your hard drive for errors.

Interestingly I recently found out about my dying HDD from Acronis True Image 2020.

Shouldn't you be using SMART-aware disk monitoring software for that, rather than relying on your imaging software?
Hard Disk Sentinel comes up for free every now and then. I've been using it for years and it works well.

        • Shouldn't you be using SMART-aware disk monitoring software for that, rather than relying on your imaging software?

I may not have been clear with my original message. It is of course rather unreasonable to expect Acronis to detect or deal with disk errors so like you I use Hard Disk Sentinel for that. On this occasion I was not at home so the first warning I had was from the Acronis email.

          Sorry for any confusion.

My gripe with Acronis here is the inclusion of >40 lines of trace level information that would be unintelligible to many users.

Ahhh, right. As a tech-oriented person, I get annoyed when programs give barely any information when an error occurs. It makes troubleshooting extremely difficult, so I appreciate it when programs give detailed information like that.

However good UI design should hide all that behind a "Details" button, and display a summary first for non-techy users. 🤷‍♂️

BTW you can set HD Sentinel to email you too.

  • @Xecuter
That was a good code… Acronis is a bit like Coca Cola… i.e. what is the true price when they have offers all over the shop.

I have been using Acronis for about 3 years now and I received a "Black Friday" upgrade offer - Acronis True Image 2021 for A$69.00 + 1tb cloud storage!
Thanks to your code it brought it down to $25.00… no wonder consumers get skeptical.

    • The code didn't work to upgrade my 2018 perpetual licence. :(

Unfortunately the ongoing subscription model is still required - they only provide fixes and patches to each version for a year.
As soon as the next version comes out, there's no more fixes to this version. And there's usually plenty of show-stopping bugs still outstanding !

I've ditched Acronis and moved to Macrium Reflect for this reason.

    • I really don't use Acronis for ongoing backups and your use case is different from mine so you may find other software which do better jobs for your needs.
Having said that the online subscription is aimed at those who may not have local storage space and you are correct there are software bugs that once the current version ends there is no further support.

Considering that a perpetual license is good for about 2 years or more it in my opinion better than getting a yearly subscription and is a one off cost.
The software may stop working in the future due to OS updates and new drive technologies not supported but for your average user most are either doing full backups, cloning existing hard drive to new hardware and doing regularly scheduled backups to external or cloud drives which seems sufficient for most.
